    I would never understand why people expected Serena to beat such a quality opponent like Justine Henin who was playing at the peak of her powers the very next day after suffering that unfortunate incident in the 4th round. It just doesn't make sense. Her father even advised her not to play. That injury kept her out until the us open, therefore she lacked match fitness. I guess her haters know she's incredibly talented and therefore expect her to beat quality opponents even when she's far from her best. Her match against Heather Watson is just an example of the dangers top players face in the 21st century, especially the females since they play best of 3 at the slams. Something similar happened to Iga Swiatek against Naomi Osaka who has never gone past the 3rd round of the French Open even during her prime. Anyone in the top 100 can beat you on their day. This is one of the reason why you can't compare players from different eras.

      Says a lot that she was able to be competitive in that Henin match despite not being able to use her left hand at all lol. Talented is definitely the right word.

      The only reason Serena lost that match was because she sprained her thumb in the previous match. Nobody knew that until the match started and a set went by and Serena couldn’t hit a backhand. Serena was moving fine. Richard also didn’t advise her to not play that match. He advised her to not play the US Open and she played anyway.

      I think it's a bit different. Here is why. I think that Naomi at her best is better than Iga at her best and apparently Naomi thinks so too. She choked in that match because she has clearly not been as mentally strong as she was when she was winning slams. When it comes to Serena, everyone plays their best against her hence the Heather situation. On the WTA, they're all at the same level, so i agree when you say that anyone can win on their day. But I think that Iga and Naomi as their best are better than the rest. Comparing eras? hmmm when Serena came on the scene, there were atleast 15 players at Iga's level. The era after that, there was about 10 or slightly less than 10. Now there is only Iga and Naomi with that heir about them at their best. So in this manner I can compare eras just because I have lived through them all. The open eras that is.

    But Serena also lost to Ruano-Pascual, Craybas, Bartoli, Lisicki, Cornet, Sasnovich, Tan (among others) in Wimbledon. 14 losses in total!
    Navratilova and Graf surely were in another league in Wimbledon.

    I was at that Hantuchova match in 2007. I was about 6 rows behind Serena’s chair. I remember taking a nap on a bench underneath centre court during the rain delay (was jet lagged ). We all thought Serena was toast. And then all of a sudden she just started ripping winners and before you knew it she had won. Such a joyous moment.

    The 2009 Semi Final along with Juatine Henins 2010 2nd round match vs Dementieva are imo the two best played women's matches of all time. Just goes to show that we can all wonder how good Dementieva could have been if her serve didn't suck so bad.

    • @corgeousgeorge
      @corgeousgeorge 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @carrerau7138 no I mean all time. the drama, the athleticism the power the speed. the variety from both sides of the net, length of rally, lack of u forced errors. Name me others of that quality? maybe Osaka vs andreescu in China F? maybe graf vs seles 1992 RG F? I can't think of another.

      @@corgeousgeorge Steffi had far more dramatic matches than Serena. And made less unforced errors than Serena.
      That's why she is 888-107 win/loss and Serena only 849-152. A significant difference.
      And please don't rehash the claims about Serena's superior competition. Her competition in 2009-2017 (when she won 14 of her 23 slams) was abysmal compared to what Steffi had to face from 1985 to 1999.

    • @corgeousgeorge
      @corgeousgeorge 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @carrerau7138 ah ur one of THOSE. Steffi had no competition bc someone stabbed hers. Also Steffis matches against sabatini were some of the best in the 80s and 90s but Dementieva was in the two greatest women's GS matches ever. one vs Henin and the other vs Serena. stay mad.

    • @carrerau7138
      @carrerau7138 19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@corgeousgeorge Steffi played 6 slams finals against both Navratilova and Seles.
      Plus slam finals against Evert, Sanchez, Hingis. All of them greats as well who each have at least 12 slam finals under their belt.
      To suggest that Elena Dementieva (who reached quarter finals (!) or better in slams only 12 times) played "the two greatest women's GS matches ever" is asinine. Elena simply was not good enough for that.
      She has a career winning percentage of only 67 % which is not even top 40 in the open era!
