Watching this makes me feel 16 again ! My Gosh !!! These kids ROCK and the Styx guys sing and play like 40 yrs have just flown and they were in some kind of time warp!! The smiles say it all. Thank you.
I was an early Chicago Styx fan. My older brother was a set up guy with a popular local band that was toured on the local Chicago/Wisconsin bar circuit. I say that because Styx was part of that for a year or so and, at 16, I was able to catch a couple shows back when a homemade ID would get you into an 18 mandatory bar. We call those the good ole days. Such a shame that the 3 of these guys can't get it together and tour with Pazzano. They were a legendary and ground breaking band. They have literally been recognized as the band that started the "Rock Power Ballad" with 'LADY'. I well remember singing that song along with the transistor radio in my hand. Man if I could sing like that, I was damn sure every girl in the neighborhood would be in love with me. Anyway ..... I recognized, as a fan, sorta early on that there was a difference in style between the three front players, if you will, in the band. JD and Tommy were quite obviously looking to be nothing but flat out Rock & Rollers, with the hair, clothes, style, etc. And why not? That's what their fans wanted them to be. The people that followed the band (Although I was a fan, my interest waned a bit with their 2nd and 3rd albums, but still a fan), and it was Rock & Roll fans who filled stadiums in the 70's and 80's. But I digress ...... Anyhow, the thing about JD and Tommy being pure R & R was that is clashed a bit with Dennis who was a more of a stage guy, a musical production guy, Broadway almost ..... He had a strange affect on stage that came across to some as sorta goofy or nerdy .... Broadway like, as I said. From the things I have read, the infighting started with song choice and the fact that Dennis wanted to have almost complete control of that on albums .... With the success of the 1st release, the rest of the band basically let him have that control .... Unfortunately #2, The Serpent Is Rising, and #3, Man of Miracles, were both duds and really left their record company main exec, Jerry Weintraub, who had started Wooden Nickel with a couple other guys, asking them what kind of music they wanted to do? What kind of band were they? So Dennis gave in a bit, and then came Equinox with Lorelei and Light Up and Sweet Madam Blue .... and it went platinum, and they basically did an album a year from then on. There was, however, always the differences between them, with Dennis wanting these showy stage type productions, and JD/Tommy just wanting to be that garage type bar band that banged out Rock with some power ballads for the chicks in between. Great band though, and there is no tomorrows for a whole bunch of great bands that never got back together, so I wish these guys would
I WAS FLOORED BY THE QUALITY OF THE PREFORMANCE, THANK YOU STYX FOR BRINGING MUSIC BACK TO SCHOOL. WHAT A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE FOR THESE KIDS TO PLAY ALONG SIDE YOU GUYS. WAY TO GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY. THE FAMILY OF MUSIC, NEVER DIES, HAS NO BORDER YOU ROCK!
This concert aired on TV last night in New York, outstanding performance by Styx and The Contemporary Youth Orchestra. The expressions on the kids faces is priceless, they were Rocking!
STYX doesn't need a back up band with those kids. Kudos to that great young talent, and to STYX for bridging the so call "gap". Everybody on stage is a STAR. Great job kids. Wonderful music. It made me real happy.
OMG I love this song! The kids are hopping and a bopping to this glorious song! What an awesome voice! I grew up listening to them. I loved them then and I still love them now!
OH........ I have shared this video with everyone my age who will appreciate just how heartfelt and talented and awesome this is. Those wonderful budding musicians will have something to brag about all their days!
Holy crap!!! I've never heard JY like this. And to think they included these lucky kids. How would you like to be 16 years old, or whatever their ages are, and say I played with "STYX". As Tommy put it. "Awesome!!!"
first time i've heard JY sing this song. he rocks it. Dennis who??? and even better is how much the kids are getting into this music we've been enjoying for years. nice to see them introduced to real music.
Actually, JY does not rock it. He's an awful singer. You might not like Dennis DeYoung -- and that's fine -- but to imply that this dude does a better job singing this song is just plain ludicrous.
@@murph165 I think that JY manages to give an adequate performance. Dennis certainly has a better voice overall but JY rocks and the song is enjoyable.
@@murph165 that is an absolutely asshole comment to make...it's all about personal opinion...JY is not an awful singer....maybe he's not Dennis on Dennis songs but he's not awful...
Blown away by Tommy and the orchestra and choir at a different time Fooling Yourself Blue Collar Renegade Absolutely remarkable Please find it and enjoy
Big Styx fan, first and only concert attended…. Great job by JY on Lorelei given DD sang the lead on their collaborative effort. Honestly didn’t know JY could sing beyond providing the punk/grunge sounding voice on a various tracks and the high falsetto back-up vocals…. doh on me….
I lucked out. A co-worker got it for me as a surprise gift from Best buy in 2009. We always rocked out to Styx at work and she got me this great live DVD.
Wow Jeff...F'n great production dude. Ya done good. When you can bust out of the gates like that, there's a statement made. The kids really take ownership of the music. Liza's a badass. This is a little masterpiece.
I'm been listening to them since 1977 , and still have the album, CRISTAL BALL, beside all their albums including the last release THE MISSION, I'm not miss The GREAT MAESTRO DENNIS De YOUNG .I love this new line up they are sound like the same way they always do, now they sound a little bit heavier.
Love seeing the younger generation rocking right along to this. As a GenX'er, I truly think we grew up during the best era in time.
I'm so glad I had the pleasure of seeing styx in the 1970s and 1980s excellent band. Never get tired of hearing their music.
Got to see them in 2019 too. Still rocks!
Totally amazing these kids are having the time of there lives and they are so talented thank you Styx for giving these kids an amazing experience
And they will remember this experience for the rest of their lives!
I never get tired of watching Styx and CYO....Tommy shaw has always been amazing whatever he is doing.....
The pure joy on those kids face said it all
This is absolutely mind-blowing! The musicianship here is beyond this world.
Watching this makes me feel 16 again ! My Gosh !!! These kids ROCK and the Styx guys sing and play like 40 yrs have just flown and they were in some kind of time warp!! The smiles say it all. Thank you.

The orchestra is just loving all this ...love them getting into the music..five stars to them all! .Styx should do more like this.

One of the best videos ever.
Very nice lighting! Must have had a bazillion presets, and a lighting controller sweating buckets. (Nice concert, too!)

Everybody loves Styx whether they admit it or not. Lol. Awesome forever
Yes, these guys are better than ever and this show really showcased them.
Jeff Ravitz I have probably been to 15 shows during the last 20 years. I have never been disappointed. I LOVE STYX!!
Jeff Ravitz, what a great show !! Did they play Come Sail Away and is there a video ?
The young female violinists singing their hearts out made me smile. How do girls of their generation know all the words?
Because this is the music their parents grew up with.
Back in the 60s & 70s we listened to them when we’re called TW4 on the Southwest Side of Chicago
Simply beyond words…🙏🏽❤️
You guys will never lose me as a fan
I love styx most of all tommy shaw so amazing
My husband and I love watching the complete concert on HDNET.

He's often overlooked unless you've seen them in concert.
Unbelievable! Although it shouldn't be, everything Styx does is great! But congrats to the Contemporary Youth Orchestra for doing such a great job!
JY, Tommy and Ricky are old enough to be Todd's parents, but they still manage to rock out!

JY sings the hell out of this one. I prefer his voice on this over DDY
@JeffRavitz
Since this video was from 2006, what happened to the Orchestra Members?
Kids will talk about this to their kids
