Did he use floo powder to get to America? WHY did he go on this weird trip? Does he have to avoid changing the past, or can he use his magic to help Harriet free the slaves?

If he left at one part of the year in the present and arrived too much earlier or too much later in the year in the past, there’d still be no Earth for him to land on. Either way you slice it, Harry would most likely be suffocating in the vacuum of space rather than being transported to America, but you’ve got an interesting idea there. I’ve wondered how to solve this very problem for a time travel story I’m writing (rest assured, it’s not any sort of fan fiction), and have kicked around the idea of exploiting Einstein’s theory about gravity stretching time. Maybe gravity would still have a hold on you as you traveled through time, keeping you in more or less the same point in the physical space. The fire trails left by the Delorean in BTTF kind of imply something like this. I don’t know enough of the science to know if this idea would even hold up, but it’s a comedy, so I can always play it for laughs. It was more of a play on words to begin with anyway.

I'm all for having a vivid imagination if that helps you transpose fun things to a page or a canvas or sketching pad, but defining your entire sense of Self in accordance with the themes of a corporate-owned setting is incredibly sad.

Of course, untrained wizards blowing themselves up during a meltdown makes sense in universe, as magic is clearly dependant on emotion. It's never explicitly addressed in the books except for the unforgivable curses, but its present from chapter 2 of the first book.
A meltdown feels like your very being is self destructing, so magic taking its cue from that seems logical.

I know that this has been pointed out, but not only have these guy's dissed a certain part of the fan base, but also had managed to call out the entirety of the special education system.
I was friends with a deaf girl who went to special ed classes for subjects like math and english, but was with the regular class for things like PE and art, and it wasnt hard to see that special ed really does make it harder for the higher functioning students to realize their full potential. They are viewed as complete morons, talked down to, and not allowed to work on their own, and its sad to see.
