Nissan Titan - No Start Click Fixed

  • So my Nissan Titan was having trouble starting. It would just hit me with a loud click. At this point I have replaced the IPDM and took it to Nissan to have it re-programed (many years ago) so that is not apart of the issue. My positive battery terminal was extremely corroded so after cleaning up the post, battery, and replacing the positive terminal, I was still having intermittent starting issues. The battery tested good at autozone so I was left thinking it was time to replace the starter since my truck is nearing 150k miles and everything else checked out good.. After reading on some Titan forums about other people experiencing this issue, I came across a guy who said to replace the ignition starter switch at the back of the ignition. It is super simple to take off since it's only 2 screws. Using a flathead screwdriver you can pry up the 3 tabs to take it apart. If yours is burnt like mine was, you can clean it off and re apply some dielectric grease. This helped me for a month or so, but I was still having to deal with some intermittent starting. It was better than before, but still not something you want to have to deal with. Just buy a new one and slap it in. You should be good to go after that. I did watch a video where a guy says to buy OEM only or you will regret it. I bought mine off eBay and it even said the part didn't fit my truck lol but it does. I will let ya know how it goes and update if needed. I know my video is pretty rough, and the audio is all over, but hopefully this helps someone out there. Goodluck!
    Edit - Here is the part I bought off eBay.

      I've been plagued by this and usually have to buy a new battery every year, no matter how expensive of battery. So I decided to try your trick. Of course it didn't work for me. But it was dirty and cleaned it just as you described. Changed my ecm relay and ignition relay. I can't even see the starter let alone entertain the idea of changing it or starter solenoid. Not trying to take to a shop and be bent over either. Really had high hopes for this. Appreciate you putting it out there I'm sure it will help some folks. I just have that type of luck.

    Gods don't like these Titans.
    Mine always intermittently start. Sometimes takes a few dozen 🔨 on a empty drums sound to turn over and start. Sometime I throw a $20 on the dash and it starts.

    It didn't start the first crank probably because fuel pressure hadn't come up to snuff yet. There is a check valve that should hold rail pressure from the delivery fuel line from tank/pump but w/ older vehicles the valve isn't perfect and over time the rail pressure bleeds down. Next time cycle the key to the "On" position, you'll hear the fuel pump run for a few seconds and then turn the key back to "Off". This extra key cycle will help prime up the fuel rail to the correct fuel pressure for the injectors to atomize it.

      Hello, yes my truck is still starting consistently. However, I did end up having to replace the battery in December as it was several years old and tested bad at Autozone.

    That fusable link coming off the battery with the fuses was melted towards the harness and clips. That's definitely not good.

    Mine just wouldnt turn over when I turned the key, the relay would click and nothing else. I tried bypassing everything else by jumping from the pos battery post to the starters signal wire itself and still it wouldnt turn over. I ended up taking the starter out and having it tested just to find out it was still good. All my fuses and fusible links were in great shape so I went back to the switch hes showing in the video. The only way I was able to confirm it was the switch is I connected the harness to it and used a screw driver to turn the car on. The tumbler my key goes into doesnt let the switch turn enough to make full contact. The problem I'm having now is that the only place that has the switch is autozone and its a special order. Does anyone else have a part number for any other brand switches?

      Not sure I am fully understanding what you are looking for, but I will try to assist you. Are you having trouble finding the part I suggested replacing? Or are you looking for the whole assembly? If you haven't tried Rock Auto already, give them a shot.

    Alright so I had my truck (2004 titan) idled for like 3 weeks in the driveway, when I tried to start it, at first it was just making a small repeated clicks ratatatatatatatta and nothing. The battery 12v gauge in the dash shows low voltage. Then I tried charging it via jumping cables from my Corolla, but still no good. I took out my multimeter and it read 11.63v, which is bad. So I took it to O'Reilly's and they replaced and gave me a new battery under warranty. After installing the new battery, and tried to start again, but this one, it just does one click and nothing, no repeated clicks. All the lights and powered equipments are working. I checked and the starter fuses didn't get burned.
    I'm wondering if it's this ignition switch or a starter. I only got 160k miles on my Titan.

    • @Hiighboost2
      @Hiighboost2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My Titan is an 09 with a little over 150k. Replacing the ignition switch, or at least taking it off to see if it's burnt is way easier than checking/replacing the starter.

      @@Hiighboost2 so i took off the ignition switch and the copper plate rings inside all look fine, a little greasy so I wiped it off but otherwise i don't see any burns.
      i'll still order a replacement since they seem super cheap.

    • @Hiighboost2
      @Hiighboost2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KoiAquaponics Mine was clearly burnt on the inside, so that was my main reason for replacing the switch. I don't think wiping it off is going to help anything as these need some dielectric grease in there. You may be dealing with another issue.

      What was your result since the switch didn't fix it? I cleaned everything according to the video and it worked great for about 6 months. I bought a new switch and I'll probably put it on tomorrow. I'm just hoping it's not the starter...

      @@JasonCarson I am not sure about that other guy, but mine has been fine. At least replacing the switch is a quick and simple job compared to the starter. I hate just throwing parts at cars, but if cleaning it helped, the new switch should be even better.
