How Can Malaysia Be Better Than Singapore? Ft. Syed Saddiq

- Brain drain is a big issue in Malaysia and many of us don't acknowledge it enough. What more, we always compare ourselves to our neighbouring country --- Singapore; thinking we can never be like them or be 'better' than them. So, I did to ask YB Syed Saddiq what could be done better here in Malaysia.

Education minister radzi jidin and ask for what legacies he is gonna leave behind..at least maszlee have visions and major changes in his short stint
Definitely Khairy Jamalludin, the only one i deeply believe to be able to get Malaysia to be on track to be a well developed country. See How well he had done being the Minister of Kesihatan.
How can? But it is. Deal with it! 🤣
For those who don't know, many Malaysians going to Singapore to work was only an issue the past 10 - 20 years, before that never had an issue. This is when the Malaysian government became stupid, backward and corrupt. Before that, many Malaysians actually work in Malaysia. Brain drain was here and there, but not severe.
I wish i can show all people, the reaction of you 10:33 shows the truth about malaysia which everyone will feel the same as you as layman, what syed saddiq said infront of your face, which is what we would love to hear, "how does multibillion dollar contract to a multi billionaire will miraculously make my poor malay fisherman and petani, better? Thats the honest truth about the system, and syed saddiq already give good solution, which we can do better, why not make changes, and support this guy to allow this change to happen.
This is pure gold, everything straight to the point didn't waste any sentence. I really hope Malaysia getting better, we need to look further no keep current.
If Malaysian is truly smart, we shouldn't vote. Sadly people fall into divide and conquer game.

As a Singaporean student, I really appreciate the governments effort in providing technology and devices to students. I feel the basic needs need to be fulfill first like solving the issue of lacking of teachers & bad conditions of schools before talking about ipad for standard one
@@SL-hc6nw But having a quality ipad with quality digitized supplement learning can really offset lack of teachers and bad conditions of schools, doesn't it?
We've all heard how self-made successful people and entrepreneurs who didnt even have schools but learnt online.
In fact, I've a friend who is now an engineer who do not have a single cert to his name. He started from the bottom, buying coffee for engineers and doing adhoc work for his company. He started learning from youtube.

Getting more teachers and improving infrastructure takes years of training and construction work, it should be done but we don't have to wait. Digitizing education takes months or a year, top.

@@arx117 I don't deny that he may have made bad decisions in the past but I don't expect perfection especially when he is still relatively new in politics (5 years give or take). he still has time to learn and make better decisions.
compare him to many other politicians that Malaysia has to offer. I'm pretty sure he has contributed a lot more to nation-building than some of the dinosaurs that we have in Parliament. besides, he is also a catalyst for more young and aspiring leaders to come up and bring fresh ideas to the table.
fresh innovation is a lot better for our country compared to dinosaurs who prefer a rotting status quo that would only benefit themselves, their families and their cronies. :)
As a singaporean malay i agree 💯 on what he says. Quality education is key to malaysia success. I feel for malaysians who struggle daily to come in and out of Singapore just to have a comfortable life in malaysia. Malaysia has so much to offer to its people. Its fine to have the bumiputra rights in malaysia but the malaysian government needs to look on the needs of lower income minorities they are also citizens of malaysia and will fight for malaysia no matter what. I’m agreed when he mentioned our education is business.. those private universities are tend to generate profits more than to develope good students.
Exciting video. Currently studying at UiTM, and I feel what Syed Saddiq is saying. For example, you need to learn English in a degree even after taking MUET. Not to mention a third language compulsory subject. OMG, it's freaking frustrating. You can only choose between Arabic and Chinese. Then, you can't even select it if the quota is full.
Sorry that’s probably a problem specific to UITM and not the Malaysian education system . In other public unis we could skip English courses if MUET is 5 or 6 . And for foreign languages we could take German or Japanese as it’s quite lucrative for engineering grads . Obviously mandarin and Arabic were available too

As a Malaysian living abroad, it is very refreshing to see a politician who is eloquent in expressing his ideals for Malaysia and focusing on actual issues plaguing Malaysians and coming up with practical solutions to help fellow Malaysians. Really good job with the interview, it will be a good idea to do a follow up with him on equitable education policies, linking to the democratisation of labour market, focusing more on improving better wages and support, career progression.
He is damn right. I am a Malaysian who now resides and has worked in Singapore for more than 20 years in HR. When Covid hit, I was really amazed and impressed by the measures implemented by the SG govt on hiring fresh graduates, the unemployed and creating job opportunities, etc. I have not really seen any other SEA countries help in the job market as SG does. MY is a rich country, not just in natural resources but most importantly, Human Capital. MY govt should have better policies and plan for it.

I love how everything Syed Saddiq says speaks to the soul of Malaysians. It's so true. I hope we get that change we want in this lifetime.
As an ex-Malaysian turned Singaporean, you are right; the solution is obvious. The problem is Msia is unable to implement solutions due to the lack of unity in the parliament. Until MPs/Ministers can start to act as One, it is pointless to discuss solutions if there is no stable govt to execute them.
They won’t
coz everything Saddiq has pointed out in the video like the unnecessary billion dollar government projects granted to bumi, or the shady private colleges that enroll students who couldn’t get into public uni and grant them with a degree who couldn’t get them any jobs..
All these, are happening, because, someone in the government has personal ties to these institutions/projects and they will obtain financial gain personally if such things continue to take place in Malaysia
Malaysia is doomed, there is no solution..
Every single politician in Malaysia is corrupted
Saddiq may not be corrupted now, but if he really becomes prime minister, soonner or later, he will be one of them as well, for he is only human
Because of the unique racial circumstances of Malaysia whereby the Chinese aren’t a real minority (20% of the population does not constitute to be a real minority in my opinion) in a country full of Malays, and the disparity between the capabilities and diligence of these 2 races are ever growing, malaysia can’t make any real fundamental changes to be better
For example, The Malaysian government has gradually revamped the school syllabus and make mathematics tougher, it is well known Malaysia’s school syllabus is very outdated in general
But, instead of being grateful, there r multiple cases whereby Malay mathematics teachers who are teaching in Malay schools are complaining online that mathematics are too tough and the politicians just made mathematics sooo tough to “shock sendiri”
I mean, wtf right?
So yeah, in my opinion, malaysia can’t change, it’s a racial problem...

As a 21 yr Malay male with 7 siblings (Im third) I was given a choice to either work to support our family or study, atm I choose to work because I can’t see Im surviving with just ptptn. My parents didn’t have the money to even support me to study at public university but they tells me to do so and I want to actually but I see my older friends who finished their diplomas has the job that only pays 1500,1600 back in 2019. I concluded that I could get an education later if I start working now and study in the future. Also I’m thinking about supporting my younger siblings when I have a job so that they won’t have to worry about money when they want to pursue further education.
Respect for Syed Saddiq. So grateful to know we have an actual intellectually capable politician. This is the best video so far on Mr Money TV.
We need more interviews like this.
This is such a good video in terms of policies that mentioned are able to be implemented in the short term and Malaysia as an economy could grow in terms of upskilling in the technical industry. I have longed for such programs to exist for students that are not interested in studies but more hands on programs. And to be honest, hands on technical learning programs are more practical in our current economy as this industry in shrinking and the underemployment is getting worse in this sector. I would advocate for this if such policies were to be implemented! Good job YB Syed!
I think to add on on that point. With the subsidies provided by the government. Companies are more likely to hire more under-skilled Malaysians to train as their risk of investment in these employees would reduce. Cause employers nowadays are thinking “what if I paid them and they chose to work for other companies instead as they’re already been up-skilled” as the minimum wage for Malaysians are typically higher than foreigners. With government subsidies, companies are able to mitigate such risky thoughts and less reluctant to give under skilled Malaysians a chance.
all straight to the point...good video
thanks Jarod!
Honestly as a Singaporean I totally agree with what Mr Saddiq is saying. I totally respect his points and wish Malaysia Government will not be a hypocrite and really do the right thing for their people. Let's pray for them!

Im fully agree with what yb syed said about TVET, I've got lots of friends that really good with plumbing and electrician even with house construction, if they been given that kind of opportunity at that early age, unemployment rate in Malaysia might slowly reduce
we agree that TVET should be made more accessible for Malaysians at early age and for graduates to be given a dignified wage. Germany does that and TVET is not viewed as “sub-par” to degree.
Thank you Mr Money for filming this, please keep up on this nice content.

As a 17 yr old malaysian, i fully agree. Im currently in highschool and only less than 3 months left before the spine-chilling SPM to arrive. And what I’ve done these past years? Nothing.. because me growing up with the internet(mostly on youtube here) makes me want to also to achieve my dream as a youtuber, but as you can see from my channel with lack of uploads, school is really holding me back..
i have to learn lots of the standard subjects, and subjects I’m not even 100% interested in. And it doesn’t help either that its a MUST to pass Sejarah(history) in SPM or you wont get a sijil.. but im not even that interested in learning history cuz its so abundant of information that it becomes unfulfilling to read. Am I really gonna read hundreds of names, years, and places just to pass? Perhaps.. but in my pov, its all blank to me cuz all in my mind is that i rly do want to pursue my youtube career, but having school at the back of my mind and the inevitable SPM coming just makes me more anxious to push that goal of mine.. you may say that i might not be putting any effort into trying to learn and pass my grades, i will admit, i am lazy. But that is literally all resulting from the amount of pressure school now is putting on you and expecting you to excel.. I’ve been very depressed these past few months..
Atleast watching this, im glad to know that there are younger representatives of us who wants to change our very corrupted system for the better of the country
glad? LOL. he is not the youngster representatives that you expect him to be. learn more about politics. everyone can talks for the sake of winning a debate but not everyone can delivers what they say. plus this guy already has corruption cases.
As the same spm candidate, i disagree with some of your statement about history subject. I support that passing Sej is a must to get spm certificate. Moreover, nowadays youngsters are becoming more ignorant and less educated in our country's history. However, i do agree that Sej exam format is absurd. Rather than focusing of facts, the KBAT questions are more like political and economical subject related. I hate this even though it helps with giving marks. It is better for Sej exams to be less complicated and straight to the point. Therefore, Malaysians will be knowledgeable in history as they have strong facts that they hardly memorize and learned at school.
I'm not a history freak, but i will have to say Sejarah is important for us in terms of morale and improvement. *not* more important than other subjects, but still important. Well personally i agree that sejarah can be very boring with all names, places, dates etc... but i still try to put effort into learning it. not only for exams.
i pray that u'll do well with SPM. Jangan putus asa👍
Very impressive. A young man with a sensible head on his shoulder. A glimmer of hope in Malaysia's rotting political environment

So my humble request is to bench mark your achievements and progress with them. That's healthy. We are just a small country. Nothing spectacular about us😂.... Just good leaders who had no choice but must survive. I am sure Malaysians can do it too. 💪💪💪
The thing is...even compared to 'only SG', we still can't catch up...let alone US 😂

I'm a Singaporean. Just wanna say that I always think of Malaysians as very hardworking group of people. I think it's not that difficult for Malaysia to be better if they remove the Malay privilege that contributes to racial inequality. And if they have really harsh penalty for corrupted officials. And also having an independent party to investigate reported cases of corruption. There are so many smart people in Malaysia. Malaysia has alot more natural resources too. It's just ensuring a fair level playing field to attract the right people into the office. That's just my layperson assessment of the current situation.
the Malay privilege is actually of no issue, considering the Chinese is whose control the economy of Malaysia and its already in the constitution since way back so it cant be changed, inequality is everywhere even in Spore isnt it? im half Singaporean from my mothers side, and always went back forth countless times there to visit relatives so i know whats usually not known regarding your country from the outside, to me there is no such thing as a perfect country, at least Malaysia doesnt hinders any race from thriving, the Chinese is perfect example of it
@@akaneru1935 The Malay privilege does hinder members from other races from getting the same treatment in life, e.g. given the same opportunity to public university.
Since inequality exists, shouldn't people address that inequality rather than leave it status quo? And it is possible to change the constitution if the whole parliament works together to fight for the change. I know it sounds idealistic because we all know most members of the parliament are Malays and they are voted in by Malays, and some of these Malay voters will find it almost impossible to give up their privilege.
Actually, it boils down to a functional parliament which can get things done. I don't see it happening in Malaysia but assuming it does happen one day, I'm pretty sure Malaysia will be so much better.
@@lecherhao86 does it mean inequality though if their forefathers have agreed on that very status quo from the beginning? Respect to Syed Saddiq for his input and mindset. Truly the young leader of Malaysia
Syed talks with passion and seems to have ideas.
Whether he can bring them to fruition is a totally different story.
A politician's bread and butter is to talk. A system overhaul takes A LOT OF POLITICAL WILL and many stakeholders cooperating together- does he have enough support among his peers or education industry to push that through across Malaysia? Can the current coalition government even stand united for the entire election cycle... So many unknowns...
I'm also concerned about the serious court charges he's facing and why someone with such a case pending can continue to stand for elected office in Malaysia.
Then again, he's hardly the only Malaysian politician with ongoing court case, either presently or in the past.
As a Singapore citizen,I have huge respect for YB Syed Saddiq! He is a pragmatic, true up and coming reform-minded Malaysian MP! Hope that your next interview will be Nurul Izzah binti Anwar,Member of Parliament for Permatang Pauh, another reform-minded rising star MP!

Syed Saddiq itu Masih bocah belum matang berpolitik dia hanya omong besar
Don't worry la... We need at least another 50 years to see that change...
So yeah, the more backward thy neighbours, the better...(hidden agenda of thy government)
Its not likely, there are too much internal conflict within their political parties, and each one is dead on against the other policies. So if Party A win and his policies is implemented, the next time, party B wins, they will change whatever party A did and then it's back to square 1.
Which is why rather than a system like USA, having party A for 4 or 8 years, then change to B, and it undo what party A did, and then it lose and Party A take back, and it put back the policies..
Neither A or B cares about what happens 15 or 20 years down the road, cos they are only focusing on the next election in 5 years.
I rather get a good govt.. and serve 20 or 25 years..and can make long term goals
well digitizing education has its pros and cons too. From what i see in education in countries that uses laptops in class, students do learn more, but also get distracted more in class, especially gaming/watching youtube/netflix in class endlessly.
Disagree with you. I was a pioneer batch in using laptops during poly. There were distractions but basic computer terms learned when playing games will never be taught in class. The skills learned from searching the net to crack a cd, walk through, etc. Will never be taught. I am so good at searching Google, I can even solve bugs for the accounting system I am using. Find work arounds and logic out solutions because I have a slight advantage on how the computer thinks. I am a major in accountancy and we were not taught a lot on soft computer skills like finding information. My friend which is an ACCA grade couldn't find anything on the web and has been asking me questions that has answers on the net.
@@choonkeonglim6178 totally agree with you, nice sharing. Thank you
i respectfully disagree, even times without digitized education , students were still getting distracted as much as now one way or another, all depends on the person, digitized or not, but cant deny the digitized age has made everything that much easier and quicker to learn and progress ourselves, and we should take advantage of that
Actually the education system is still very backward. I mean we are in a digital age, why are students still forced to remember theories, regurgitating information when in a real workplace environment, all of these are readily available? Understanding theories are more important. I have a terrible memory and I can't remember theories word for word. However exams gives points base on keywords mentioned which I find it ridiculous. Now if my client asks me anything, I will search the net , provide it to the client with my summarised answers.
@@choonkeonglim6178 Well you do have a point, tho to point that out, you’re using it in poly, which shows you have certain maturity already by then. What was suggested was for all levels, since primary to lower secondary as well. You can’t guarantee the same way of learning in lower secondary. What I see in these digital classrooms are , yes it’s like real life where if you don’t know something, you google. BUT these young students google literally everything without going through much thinking. Any questions u give them, they just google word for word, the whole question. It’s not even a research task, but answering short answer questions. It does some in handy when we want them to learn extra stuff and research additional things. Then u will end up needing to teach “googling skill” like now as an adult/ older learner u know how to use certain keyword to look up info, with the certain way to summarise the info you read. But this doesn’t come naturally. Young people I see just grab any info right from the top of the google page, writing into paper without even understanding what they are writing. This is what I observed in the classrooms down under and I am currently working in this field.
Syed Saddiq is the savior Malaysia needs but doesn't deserve. I truly hope he manages to implement his policies in the future.
Thanks #syedsaddiq and Peter for this great conversation!
