What a triumph if you could play this on a solo violin! :) Actually this is very good, good enough to bring tears to my eyes. It's always a pleasure to see Mr. Ozawa on the podium, ultimate grace and clarity.
When Ozawa talks about Prof.Saito we see almost always tears of gratitude in his eyes. I heard an episode of Ozawa in TV long before. Prof.Saito was so strict with his students that Ozawa once ran away in terror at full speed from the lesson in Prof.Saito's house without putting on his shoes. We see how scared Ozawa was. Saito-Kinen means Saito-memorial.
This festival orchestra is composed of musicians, who were the pupils of Hideo Saito, a great music lecturer, a conductor, and a cellist. He is famous for his great book of conducting, "The Saito Conducting Method". Saito-Kinen Orchestra is formed during Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto (サイトウ・キネン・フェスティバル松本, "Saito Memorial Festival in Matsumoto (a city in Nagano Pref.)") , which is held in August or Semptember, annual. Most of musicians in this orchestra are famous players in the world.
This is an orchestration of Ferruccio Busoni's piano transcription of Bach's original piece. Is an interpretation of an interpretation (with which I have no problem whatsoever). I play and love the Busoni transcription, which is a masterful feat of musical re-engineering. The piano transcription is so masterful that you can't help but to hear an orchestra. To see it actually orchestrated is amazingly refreshing. I would have fleshed out some parts, here and there, to make it sound bigger, but hey!, is amazing as it is. Thank you for posting it!
The orchestration by Hideo Saito is a nice one. Others who have orchestrated Bach's Chaconne are : Leopold Stokowski (of course), Joachim Raff, Alfredo Casella, A. Walter Kramer, Jeno Hubay, Maximilian Steinberg, Pavel Rivilis, Natan Rakhlin......
I prefer this to the Stokowski, for sure! This makes much better use of the strings. But I don't understand ending with the Maggiore, unless Ozawa wanted to "end on a positive note" as a tribute to the great teacher.
Chaconne as only violin music is monockrome photo. But this arranged by Saitoh Takao is color photo. I feel Chaconne is exellent musically tune, and Mr Saitoh presented this fact wonderfully.Thank you for uploading.
not accurate transration, but... "I've learned many about Bach-Chaconne from Maestro Hideo Saito. This piece should be originally played by one player, but we'll now play orchestra version which Hideo Saito arranged. This tune contains several variations where I think our prayer should be put into."
The un-art of demoting the most sublime romantic music of all times to a hollow spectacle worthy of a street performance to get bystanders excited for a minute before they walk off to their business unimpressed. Consider Leopold Stokowski instead!

Thank you for providing this superb video! Master composer, Master arranger, Maestro Ozawa Conductor (RIP), and superbly masterful orchestra! (from Canada)
Que apasionante versión!!
Que INTENSIDAD!!!!
Amazing
Rest in peace

Amazing maestro Ozawa and his Orchestra💗💗💗Always excellent!!!
I can see every performers are full of spirit of cooperation and this is only be done by Saito orchestra.
God 10:22 - 11:13 is just magical!
This chaconne - originally for solo violin - is, in itself powerful enough for this. So great! Thank you.

Gracias por la explicación

Did Busoni make the orchestration for orchestra as well

Thank you for that information! Do you have any favorites?
Hearing an orchestra perform this is breathtaking!
Great performance!!
Fantastic! I thought the orchestra version from Stokowski was the ultimate version, but this is at least as good as that one! Thank you so much!
instablaster.

Extremely Beautiful! Grandioso!!!
Beautiful!!!

Wonderful !
Saito great performance
Please listen to the piece. And don't think about the technicalities.
Beautiful
That was sublime.
I prefer this to the Stokowski, for sure! This makes much better use of the strings. But I don't understand ending with the Maggiore, unless Ozawa wanted to "end on a positive note" as a tribute to the great teacher.
Fantástica versión.
Impresionante Bach enhor
Enhorabuena

best of all time...
Well done! Thanks for the ear candy.

a different one.
Is the the score for this available?
Why does this cut off in the middle of the piece?
The last part which come back d minor was lost, Right?
Where is D moll ending
Exactly.
interesting
8:37
I still think Chaconne should be for solo violin ONLY. Any other transcription simplifies the technicalities of the piece.
Are you sure? Listen the guitar transcription played by julian bream and tell me...
😉🍑❣️💐
Any transcription seems rather inferior to Bach's original composition.
I prefer minimalism.

Nice arrangement and nice performance...but it isn't Bach. When something is perfect you just let it be.
I guess you can't polish a turd. This arrangement is awful.
Stokowski is better
