Hello Alan and Nicky, I was rewatching some of the older videos, and was wondering why is it that quite a few of the narrow locks have one large gate on one end, and on the other end, there are two half gates? Curious if there is any specific reason for that?
Really enjoy your channel, your boat and butty are so well maintained! Cheers, Brian

Hi Brian and thank you, Large gate at top of lock as less height of water to hold back (Usually around 5 foot) and gate opens outwards so doesn't effect boat in lock.
Two at lower end of lock as more height of water to hold back (around 18 foot) the water in the full lock plus depth of canal. Also two smaller gates at lower end take less lock space when the gates are opened giving more room for the boat in the lock.
There are some locks around that have large gates on both ends of the lock which does make it tight for full length boats to get the lower gate open and closed around the locks, i"ll film some on the BCN later in the year.
