I too, do Love this sound from this era. It was when they had the best Mix of New with Old. The sound was perfected - Polish, but not quite Polished like they are now. This was one of their Peak Era Sounds imo, but yea...
stylin and profilin.....looking good and sounding great..it's 2021 almost 2022 and this is still my favorite song..so much style soul and grace..and ass kickin sound
He plays the entire song with a slide on his little finger just to make that cool engine sound in the intro. I can barely play this song with all five fingers in tact.
Also don't listen to the "easy" guy because it takes yeah fingers and that's a whole different ball game;) I played in in standard but that's an open tuning and that also is a whole different ball game!
i respect and have appreciation for all their music although to me this bluesy/rock style genre is their best music even though it's not the most lyrically profound album but the Thickfreakness album as a whole to me is a great album. Wish they would put more of this stuff out
Anyone who plays guitar knows that metal heads like to say this type of music is easy to play. My husband plays, and is a bad ass, non metal head I might add, and he would be the first one to tell you that you may think "The Blues" is easy to play, but if you don't have the "soul" or the "feeling" for it then you will never be able to play it properly. Its about organic percision... anyway.. metal heads are usually the only ones that complain about music "sucking" too. Lol most people enjoy melody. Also id like to add that anything is "easy" to play if you turn your distortion and fake tones all the way up. Try playing something besides a digital amp and find a nicer tone and lets see how easy it is to play... Some can still do it, but most can't lol. sorry i had to rant for a second.
The Drummer and Guitarist were effectively on the same focal plain, why constantly rack the focus? Between that and the shake-y handheld quality, I had to take a Dramamine. Come for the pretentious 1960's camera effects, stay for the muted sound. It's my favorite Black Keys song and clearly they were crushing it...maybe next time.
@@brentcrude8153 lol you're armchair quarterbacking amateur crowd footage shot 13 years ago at a festival? Good luck on your search and I'm glad you keep dramamine close by at all times 🤣
Really late to this, but he’s still playing, just with his left hand/fretting hand only. He’s essentially doing hammering and sliding without picking (I believe), which is why the sound seems to change and become sort of muddy and different in general. If you listen, you can hear the difference between when he picks and stops picking. It’s kind of badass, in my opinion. It’s all just fretting and no picking. I’ve tried this myself and it’s pretty difficult (at least for someone who hasn’t been playing that long).
I wish they still played stuff from this era. Peak Black Keys.
The old stuff is great. But i like their new songs too. Both eras have their charm.

My favorite set of the weekend. This was mere weeks before they officially “blew up”
I still revisit this video every so often. Thanks for the expertly-captured memories of a glorious weekend & great performance.
Incredible performance and the footage seems so good!! Blues rock rules.

If you can't play this song, practice, it gets really fuckin REALLY EASY
For real! Underrated song!

Dan was feelin’ it that day, for sure. ❤️

They ARE the definition of LIVE Music ROCK;!!! Change me every time. Carry me over the crap!
Magníficos. Como siempre. Menos es más.

Kara West wow that’s very true Kara you know your shit
Mastering any style of playing is not easy. Some heavier metal so technical it’s basically distorted jazz
you are fucking right Ms Kara. Blues isn't technique, blues is all about soul and feelings.
parece Jimi Hendrix
Rock music ain't shit without Blues. Plain and simple
Best Song Ever
So Talented l ! Love this song
Awesome and just awesome, thank you!!!!
great video !
amazing quality audio and image !!
cheers !!
Your videos make me feel like i'm listening to TBK in their backyard.
Vraiment géniale excellente guitariste Townsend n’est pas loin, quand à Patrick il est unique comme Jim Gordon
@GothanAr
No problem - I used a Canon 7D with a 28-135mm lens. Thanks for watching!
Great footage its to bad that the sound couldn’t be better. Still great though.

holy shit he's using the Garageband logo guitar
Sounds like a Sabbath riff. Can't think of the name
Lord of this world? maybe...
3:20 Dan stop playing but the guitar sound countinues. Damn
esquilade that's what happens when you play with amps that are as tall as a person
esquilade he hammers on the strings
caleb villalobos I was just gonna say that. Hammer ons ftw
Yeah, he was just playing on the neck with his left hand.

...y compara este video con el de MTV 2003... en comparacion este video parece que esta 50% mas lento y 25% menos intenso!

I want to go up on stage and tune dan's guitar right now
Hank Hill fuck you mean it's totally in tune
gonna be honest this performance is completely phoned in compared to the ones he put on when they first released this song.
buttrock obama youre blind and deaf.
Don't forget dumb
Anyone else miss the telecaster version? The tone just isn't right with this one. Especially the verse.
