"Dear pesky Sal,
The Junimos and I have taken over Stardew Valley. Your hat has now become permanent monument in one of my 7 caves. I dare you to find it if you can."
Nice of Mayor Lewis to invite us over for a picnic, eh farmer?
@@subway_koopa I hope he made lotsa parsnips!
going back to read "booty butt" and the eyes while reading Grandpa's note are on different sides of the "My Feelings While Watching a Salmence Video" spectrum
"Y'all are't ready for the charts..." BRO, I am here for them! You're charts are always nice!
Jon Bois, you have an up-and-coming rival.
anyone who was doing this before 1.6.6 came out, you were earning exp at 50% efficiency due to a bug! (except for farming, the 50% debuff was meant to apply only to farming xp so you don't kale your way to mastery 5 easily)
That bug was only around from 1.6.5 or 1.6.4, the 50% debuff wasn't there from the beginning of 1.6, so some folks got lucky lol
@@lincsmash6795 well guess it came around at just the right time to annoy me specifically then
@@hipsnowsis7374 oh dang unlucky, if you're still working on it id recommend skull cavern runs for grinding xp, that's what got me the most of the way through
Explains why so many of those values didn't match the normal ones after reaching mastery lol
@@hipsnowsis7374 Ha ha, me too. Definitely felt the difference with the fix. It was pretty rough starting Mastery with everything at 50%.
Mastery feels really good to progress through. That 100,000 experience comes by very naturally over time and isn't too daunting unless you're specifically grinding for it. If you're playing casually, it's nice to unlock one mastery at a time and spend some time exploring all the new features you now have, and once you're done with that, you're well on your way to the next one!
yeah, i agree. i think it took a week tops IRL for me to reach mastery in all levels and i just did my normal gameplay. i play around 2-3 hours mostly every day.
Wouldnt be surprised if Sal bothered himself to make a video about the mystery boxes
Especially after the minor golden mystery box update.
I'm sure it will be covered in the foraging mastery specific video
I'm glad that 1.6 content is more adjacent to the core gameplay loop. My perfection-run attempts (I've never completed one) tend to crash out at Ginger Island because by the time I've unlocked it, I really don't want to be pulled away from my basic farming activities and Skull Cavern runs. It gets a bit overwhelming and demotivating because it feels out of place like a big swerve.
The mastery system is much more my speed as a lategame player because I've got huge plots of land under cultivation that can easily throw off thousands of XP regularly even with the half-XP nerf. I tend to hit Lv10 farming long before I hit Lv10 in the other skills. It's not something that feels forced.
i love the mastery system. its such a nice continuation of the skills into the late game and the perks from each (esp farming and combat) are REALLY nice, personally. and they're things i would find overpowered if they were modded, but as a mastery reward, being able to harvest all your crops with a scythe is pretty fair imo
My favorite thing for mastery was using it as an excuse to work on my monster eradication goals. I could progress towards perfection and mastery at the same time! Was quite fun
As somebody who plants massive amounts of high yield crops with sprinklers I can understand why the XP gain from them is halved, even with that nerf I got four of my five mastery levels while in the middle of harvesting crops.
Unlocking Mastery itself is far more difficult than maxing the Mastery.
It's because most players have different playstyle and usually they focus on a few things instead of all 5, like someone who focus on farming and forage can have low fishing and combat and vice versa.
After unlocking Mastery it's pretty much just a matter of time until you get enough xp to max everything since it's shared within the same bar.
I agree, it took me ages to hit level 10 foraging for some reason but once I had all five categories the masteries rolled in quickly. I had all of them unlocked nearly by the end of the first year on my new farm without trying.
I managed to unlock mastery by late fall, fishing is incredibly easy to level, i was mostly waiting on farming as i had barely done any until summer
I sucked at fighting so Combat was the last one for me to reach the level 10 . And my only motivation to get the level 9 at Combat was because the Trash Bear wanted me to cook Squid Ink Ravioli and you unlock the recipe by reaching the level 9 in Combat.
@@ElenaSofia98if you don't use the seasonal forage seeds or cover your entire farm in trees forage xp is a big pain in the butt, I don't really blame you
@@vanillajellyfish you need so much wood, foraging was my first to max. 10 wood for 1 charcoal
Occasionally the traveling merchant will sell books that give you experience in a skill. You can buy as many as you want so long as you have the gold.
I did this and it's definitely the fasted way. You just need a lot of luck that a book is sold for a decent price
A video for every skill?! We're eating well guys omg
Iridium scythe is priority number one! It makes gaining exp. a breeze. Try to save some strawberries from year 1 and multiply them in the greenhouse and seed maker enough for an average/big field (+100 quality sprinklers in my case). It is very satisfying to harvest a big field with the scythe, I even told my Junimo helpers to stop working since they don't add exp. By summer year 2 I've mastered all abilities 😁 Iridium scythe is op.
however, i noticed that when i was using the iridium scythe to harvest crops i gained no experience at all. i had to pick them up by hand to get that XP bar to go up.
@@sleepyavo That's been my experience, too, that the scythe grants no harvest exp for regular crops. I'll happily harvest coffee with the scythe as I find the time savings on that very worthwhile, but anything worth more exp I'm still picking by hand for the exp.
@@sleepyavo in my playthrough, i used the scythe on the starfruit farm i had on ginger island and i breezed through all of the mastery xp levels
@@TiaKattmaybe there was a patch because I have been getting over 10k experience per week from scything ancient fruits. The same as I got harvesting by hand.
Right when 1.6 came out i was a little overwhelmed by the amount of new content. So much so i delayed playing until i had more info about stuff . And i got that info through my favorite content creators. You included. So thank you for helping us navigate the Stardew universe.
You missed the biggest an easiest foraging boost: Plant and harvest -seeds on your farm/island
Seasonal wild seeds got nerfed in the 1.6 update, I think each harvested forage crop is worth like 2 XP now.
@@ZehraShafqat Yeah. They went from 7 forage XP to a mix of 2 forage and 3 farming XP.
Love the lil animation you did at 0:50!
I'll be curious to see what people think the best order is for unlocking. I'm at third unlock, and did farming, foraging, then combat, and will likely do mining next and leave fishing for last. Having the scythe was just too nice to pass up.
In my opinion: Mining, Farming, Foraging, Fishing, then Combat (Combat earlier if you've gotten to Ginger Island and want the convenience of the mini forge).
The statue of the dwarf king has some amazing buffs for skull cavern and volcano dungeon runs, and at 20 iridium bars it isn't hard to make especially with the increased output of the heavy furnaces. Farming for the scythe and animal crackers, but the statue of blessings is expensive to craft and not as useful as the dwarf statue. It's honestly a toss up for the last ones for me, but I made the mistake of unlocking combat before I'd even gotten to the island. Trinkets are nice but not as useful as a better fishing rod or the golden mystery boxes.
EDIT: and don't get me started on the anvil in combat mastery! One time out of curiosity I attempted to reforge a trinket to get its max level and had to reset the day because I went through my entire stack of 199 iridium bars with no luck...
I did farming then combat (trinkets!), then foraging, and will be taking mining next for the furnace. Fishing will go last.
The calm, soothing way you present your videos, even down to "y'all", reminds me of my youngest son, so how could I not subscribe...! Thanks for another great video and all the best from Oz.
very excited to see your videos on each of the skills! even tho ive played sdv for a while, i always come back to watch your videos bc sometimes i do learn smth new sometimes i dont but your whole vibe for videos just makes them so easy and enjoyable!
I am so ready for the charts thank you very much
Looking forwards to the follow up vids! Thank you!
Yesss, we love Sal and his charts.
Note that experience is actually only adding 50% for the Mastery experience in 1.6.6 due to a bug. This is fixed in the next versions, so this actually only applies to farming XP (as intended)
personally, i can't wait to see how mod makers take advantage of the Mastery system. The Love of Cooking was one of my favorite mods pre-1.6, and it'd be really interesting to see what they have planned.
Man this looks so awesome. Really excited to do this when 1.6 comes to consoles
you make a video for everything you need in this game and I love that thank you
I managed to get 10 in all skills before the end of summer year 1 (kind of a min/max run, but not very extreme). This let me harvest a lot of Starfruit on the last day of summer immediately giving me farming mastery. Just using the scythe to harvest fields of whatever the best crops for the time is will get you exp super fast. I'm about to get my final mastery level and I'm on like day 5 of winter year 1.
My mastery order: Farming, Mining, Foraging, Combat, Fishing. Farming and Mining are amazing, while the remaining 3 are just good. Farming and Mining are so widely and powerfully useful that it is hard to compete with them.
The oldest 1.6 release did NOT have halved experience gain from harvesting crops. Do what you will with this information. I was on year 5 with at least 900 tiles of Ancient Fruit on my main farm, 600+ more tiles on Ginger Island and 119 tiles on Greenhouse. It only took me 2 to 3 harvesting sessions to get all five masteries. Get Iridium Scythe first. I think even with the halved experience gain, crop harvesting is still the best option for mastery experience.
Hard disagree. Fishing is the best source because time doesn't pass in game when a fish is on the line.
You know it will be a good day when Sal posts.
No sleep! Pump out the vids Sal!
Oh I'm ready for the charts!!
Another very useful video! Thank you!
I'm so happy that concerned ape May the mastery so that all experience counts because if it was just the experience in that skill I'd be stuck on mining and combat forever
I was wondering when the skills guide would get a masteries bonus episode due to the update! 👀 I will no doubt be returning to this video once I reach mastery in my own save, so I can squint at my choices and overthink on the most simple and non-permanent of decisions 😂
if you're going for fishing xp, trying to increase chest frequencies is also a good idea. chests don't give quite as big an xp multiplier as perfects do, but it's still quite high and the two xp buffs stack if you get perfect chests
We ARE ready for the charts! Bring them on! :D
Thanks for the info :)
I just started this game, i am overloaded with information
New Sal video YAY!
You love to see quality content.
Thank you!
Perfect timing lol, I just got level ten in all of my skills on the farm I play with my cousin
I will need help with the combat for sure!
Can't wait for mastery% speedruns where people do the weirdest stuff to get all masteries the fastest.
I planted a hundred or more ancient fruits well before the update, because I like making jelly out of those for profit- the amount of exp I still get from harvesting them is wild. Plus I don't have to replant it because it's on Ginger Island!
Salmence is the type of guy to walk around his house when hes brushing his teeth
All ready unlock that all the mastery
Love to see a new salmence video about them explaining something in stardew valley 😎
Making charts is Sal’s love language.
I think you’ll find I am ready for the charts.
Charts!
Excuse you, I am SO ready for the charts!!!!
Can someone tell me the song at 2:12?
Great video! Even as somebody with 1,500 hours, I'm constantly learning new things about this game. That's what I love most about this game, and the community.
I’m so ready for 1.6 to come to console!!
I'm watching these videos while patiently waiting for the mobile update
0:50 just reminds me of that Ratatouille meme lol
I'm working on my second mastery start fall year one
Does using the iridium scythe on crops give u exp? And what about bombing rocks in the caves/cavern?
Both give you exp! Bombs won't give you exp for trees they knock down, that's pretty much the only exception
I brought as many books I possibly could and that's how I got mastery
The golden clock update is wild
What’s the golden clock update?
I just bought this game and already loving it. I've been putting it off for a long time and now i finally give in.
I'm loving your guides but its a bit overwhelming for me (i didnt know theres so much in this game!)
Do you plan on making a Let's Play thats completely vanilla? Idk how to use Mods and i dont plan on using em as i dont really see the need for Mods for this game as i find it completely a different game if i'm ever gonna use Mods.
Great video as always ❤
For a game I originally bought for $12 on sale, I've gotten a TON of playtime out of it. I've sunk easily 500+ hours into it.
Yeah, this game is hands down the best value for money I've ever spent on a game! I was so sceptical at first, seemed relatively boring when it came out. I bought it like a year ago and have love it ever since. This 1.6 update is crazy good too. Gives so much content!
nice
❤
Ancient fruit is honestly better than star fruit for xp because it's a weekly harvest all year, and with the scythe is very easy.
charts charts charts!
Do you already have a video guide out for the Community Center? I'd like something concise to read off and prepare for year one community center for each season.
Out of curiosity, if you're using modded skills, does the experience for those skills qualify due mastery, or only experience in the vanilla skills? I wouldn't expect mastery bonuses for those skills unless the modders gagne worked on it themselves.
Can't wait for 1.6 to come to console
The new tree is mystic, not mythic.
Question from a console player! Do you have to go in order when unlocking the mastery skills? Or can you pick and choose what order to do them in? (Like if I wanted to do fishing first instead of farming)
you can choose them in any order
Haven’t been here in a while, what a difference, last here at mario odyssey 😢😢😢
Welcome back!! Yeah things are a little different lol
@@salmence100I can see you’ve grown a lot 😂 250k now!!!
theres a little cutscene once you've gotten all mastery perks. I had to sit there for a moment to take it all in
I think you made a slight Error. You can Unlock the Masteries in any order. You dont have to go in the order shown around 1:32
That was clearly and obviously just an example. You're taking it way too literally.
I'm not sure it was intended to be shown as the only order to get Masteries, and I think he said later that they unlock in any order you choose.
I got full mastery after about 8 ingame days harvesting a couple hundred ancient fruit
I'm a bit confused, can you only pick one of the masteries or can you have all of them active at once but you just unlock them gradually?
You can have all of them, you unlock them gradually
Hi I know you are mainly stardew valley creator but can you play Dave the Diver? I found it is quite impressive and really great game to play for SDV player 😊
Does using explosive ammo give Mining experience or no? Cause if it does that makes farming XP even quicker
Dose somebody know when does updete coming to Playstation
So for mining mastery, if gems drop double, does that stack with the gemologist profession?
It does! And it multiplies together, you can see that I broke a jade that dropped 4 gems in the video
Sal have you tried playing mario vs donkey kong on switch?
In regards to Perfection mastery, is it cheaper to buy Perfection waivers from Fizz rather than buy the Golden Clock?
Golden Clock is 10% of perfection, and costs 10,000,000 gold from the Wizard.
Each Perfection Waiver excuses you from 1% of perfection, and costs 500,000 gold.
10 Waivers would therefore cost 5,000,000 gold rather than 10,000,000 for the clock.
However, you will not receive any of the benefits of having the Clock. The Waiver route is probably preferable only to speedrunners.
I've never been one of the first 100 to watch a video, let's goooooooooooo
Anyone know the song that starts at 2:13? Thx
i heard they changed it to just farming is 50% exp in the latest patch, could be wrong tho
"It doesn't matter until you get to level 10 in your last skill" are you sure? I accidentally read a farming book when I was lvl10 farming before starting to save them 'til I was all level 10. The mastery bar doesn't go up, but when I hit level 10 on everything I already had some XP in the mastery bar. So I think it counts it, it just doesn't display it until you get all 10s?
Kinda felt sad after I heard it just took u Spring of Year 2 to have lvl 10 on all skills and Ginger Island. 😂
I started playing Stardew Valley last month and your videos have been sooo helpful, and I just love your voice so much it just relaxes me. Sometimes I just play one of your videos in the background to chill.
Anyways, it would be great if you do some videos of the Ginger island and the Casino. I just unlocked both of them and I am so lost, I don't know what to do there.
TYSM anyways 🤍
I'm just waiting for the update to come to console
It's kinda weird that Grandpa had fully mastered all five of the farming arts yet his farm is still a total hole by the time we inherit it. Maybe he wasted so much time setting up these weird little riddles for us that he forgot to, you know, actually do any farming?
combat foraging and mining are taking forever to get to level 10
Can you forge 2 trinkets together?
Nope, you can only reforge the stats
You say that you unlock the paths of mastery one after the other. I unlocked Farming first. It was the only one that was illuminated when I went into the cave.
Hey maybe someone of you guys could help me here:
I gave all the 4 dwarven scrolls to Gunther, but i did not get the translation thing that I need to be able to talk to the dwarf in the mines. Did I miss anything?🤔
Did you get one of each colour, donate all 4 colours, then check rewards?
@@SirenPandaSabo Yes I donated all the 4 different colors ^^ You should get the reward automatically from Gunther, right?
Yeah, that's weird. It should be a donation reward that you pick up at Gunther's desk. You can still talk to the Dwarf in the regular mines although you can't understand them without the guide, so check there to see if it's simply not showing up in your Powers/Abilities tab.
Me, a Mobile Player, Watching This:
Mystic (you said mythic)
Bro when did the 1.6 update coming to mobile 😢
6:04 what is that altar? is it new to 1.6?
That is a Skull Cavern shrine that lets you activate the Dangerous version of SC. It's similar to the one beneath the regular mines.
Oh thanks, but how do I unlock it. Cause I've done Mr QIs challenge twice already
@@fernanbro09 Specifically, the Qi Challenge that unlocks the shrine is "Skull Cavern Invasion", not the level 100 challenge or "Qi's Hungry Challenge". If this isn't working, I do not know why and cannot help you
wow you unlocked Ginger Island on year 2?
