Mary was the greatest! As a female runner she inspired me and so many others. Zola also was incredible and it is such a beautiful thing to watch them both!

Remarkable race one of the greatest womens mile ever this the Olympic final we should of had in 1984 but Zurich made up for it.what a fantastic stadium and atmosphere the old Zurich stadium had ,sadly gone.in which Lausanne the other side of lake Geneva in Switzerland has inherited the atmosphere of the old Zurich , to host fantastic diamond league

I don't think she would've won.....did you see the strain on her face as she qualified for the final in LA? Maricica would've beaten her anyway. But I love Mary and as it's pointed out her great years were 83 to 85....she is definitely one of the greatest middle distance runners. Beautiful stride pattern! Just unfortunate not to win an Olympic medal. Love Zola Budd as well....the barefoot African gazelle! Those were the good days of middle distance running.

She was on PEDS throughout her life, nothing graceful about that. Her inability to win Olympic gold was poetic justice.

She ruled the roost except for LA in '84(she would've won,. just an unfortunate accident) This '85 year she was clearly back and better than ever.
The only years she was best were 83 and 85. She is great, but lets not pretend like she had a long reign on top of the sport.
