What Does a SIM Card Look Like?
A SIM card looks like a small piece of plastic. The important part is a small integrated chip that is read by the mobile device it is inserted into. The chip contains a unique identification number, the phone number, and other data specific to the user.
The first SIM cards were roughly the size of a credit card and were the same shape. Now, both Mini and Micro-SIM cards feature a cut-off corner to prevent incorrect insertion into the phone or tablet.

Couldn't you just burn of the plastic? If you would use a vacuüm cleaner motor taken from the garbage container to blow air in to the fire you would probably get a clean burn. I never tried it but I think it should work and it is cheap enough.

Yes it has gold I work at semicon and we made it ,it's called wirebonding..the wire being use in sim(intergrated circuit ( ic) ) are gold wire..

I recently got a new sim card because my phone started saying I did not have a sim card inside it, which was not true. I eventually got the new one in the mail. The old sim card was extremely dull and looked like old brass. The new one looked like some real gold. I don't know what the first one was but gold doesn't varnish or rust.
They use a gold alloy, but I'm not sure what alloys would corrode

lol that alot of work for 1/2 a gram of gold about $27.00 in 2022 28 grams in an ounce of gold worth $1600 US. so thats 5600 sim cards to be woth about $1600. I guess not bad if you collect them over time or run a recycling plant. I do have about 20 old credit cards with the sim chip in them.

Id love to do this and people say they have made thousands but calculating the weight you got here it's worth about £1.87 if it's 24k gold. Sounds more like an expensive hobby
I think if you could get hold of 1000s or 10000s of cards and could do it in bulk loads it might be worth it and reuse the acid mixtures a few times

Sodium Metabissulfate aren't the same as Sodium Bissulfate.
Sodium Metabissulfate is Na2S2O5, only pure solid. When It goes in water solution, It becomes Sodium Bissulfate - NaHSO3.
Na2S2O5 + H2O = 2 NaHSO3

Nice video, but what about the bonding wires, there probably more gold in those few wires than the contact plating.
It is hard to open the sim inside because it was molded...being baked...just to protect the wire inside
