    I use my ninja blender. It leaves a few chunks. I put them in a mesh teabag and use them to flavour my tea or hot water.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great tip! But you can go back with your Ninja and blend again to break those down further if you need to - or switch to a coffee grinder if you only have a small amount to do.

    I saw this in another video: before you put the lid on your coffee grinder, cover the cup with a piece of plastic wrap or foil and then add the lid. This prevents the powder from going all over. 💕🌸💕

    Yet another great idea! I find that the Farberware single serving blenders they carry at WallyWorld work pretty good. I like that you get multiple cups for them and I figure that for the price if I ever burn out the motor (I use mine all the time for smoothies and all kind of heavy things and after several years haven't burned one out yet) that I can replace it pretty cheap. Sometimes you have to manipulate them and tilt them at an angle to get a good fine grind on powder but it's sealed and you can even flip it upside down and right side up while grinding with no mess at all.

    Darcy are u saying heat the oven to 170 degrees then turn it off & let powder sit in the oven for 10 to 15 minutes? Or leave oven on 170 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Thank you so much, your subscriber.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      Yes - the first. You don't want to cook it, you just want the ambient heat to help.

  • @havingfits8329
    @havingfits8329 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hi i remove my pith from the rind and place the citrus rind (from juicing) in the broiler without turning the broiler on overnight to dehydrate in a gas stove) This gives me pure rind, no pith to grind. I freeze the pith to make pectin. I burned out a motor on my coffee grinder obviously but not pulsing but also by including the pith. My organic rinds are used for eating or facials and my non organic rinds are used for household cleaners either in vinegar stored for 10 days or for deep scrubbing powder for cleaning (works like borax but is not as questionable in pet and human safety) hope that adds something to your already good video. Thank you.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of course. You might want to throw them back into the dehydrator to remove any residual moisture they may have absorbed before powdering.

  • @ms.anonymousinformer242
    @ms.anonymousinformer242 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why not use the dehydrator machine instead of the oven ? Just curious. I am trying to learn about this while waiting for the arrival of my first dehydrator.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Because it's easier for me, and I don't have to worry about the powder blowing out of the machine. And in this household, something else is usually in there drying. You have to be careful with powders so that they don't blow - by putting them in a bowl, covering them with parchment or putting them in something like a muffin tin. Then making sure not to turn on the machine turn the machine off until it's fully closed (and the fans have stopped blowing, etc.) I've had enough spills, the oven is just easier.

    Ineapl!e? Can you make a fruit powder out of pineapple? What better and what's easier to use fresh or canned?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trim it, slice it, dry it - 135F/57C until it's completely dry. Super thin slices will get you crisp pineapple chips. I prefer canned because the fibers are broken down some in the processing, and I just prefer it.

      Typically their build doesn't work for powers (it throws stuff out to spin around the outside, more than drawing it in to the blade. BUT...if it's what you have, use it! I prefer a bullet blender for most of my grinding. I rarely get this one out anymore unless it's to do a small amount.

    Did I get that right? You preheated the oven but turned it off when you put the tray in, yes? I did this a while back and it got all clumpy and so I tossed it! Doh!

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes -and if you saw, the stuff is hard and clumpy at first until you begin to break it down. It's the nature of drying. If you let it sit too long in a humid environment, it will also get clumpy from that increased moisture. I don't bake it, but let the ambient heat remove any excess humidity.
