Thank you for the video! My “solution” was a bit different, although it’s the same principle. I held it with my two hands, wiggled it quickly while the square is vertical and kept gently pulling it apart. Your way is much more elegant :)

I really can't get enough of this guy. One time, just once; is love to see him start to show a puzzle. "Hold it like this, lay it down like that..."and SMASH! Giant friggin' hammer from left field. Puzzle shatters into oblivion. "Dats how we solve dis one. Putting it together can be a bit difficult though. Hope you liked..." I'm telling you I would lose my mind dying laughing

Thank you for this. I searched for a solution, because I was so close. I was missing something. However, I couldn't bring myself to watch it and spoil the accomplishment.
Someone in the comments mentioned "hidden mechanism" and everything clicked into place so to speak. The pins are what make this puzzle particularly difficult. I figured out the algorithm. It was just a matter of gracefully and slowly working the puzzle back together and then letting all sides slide into place.
Turning the puzzle on its side really helped me too. Woo!
The "puzzle" aspect of this one was not very challenging, but I do think that this is one of their more beautiful puzzles, so I do like it very much. The sounds it makes are quite pleasing, too.

You push the pegs back into the center and connect it reverse of the way you took it apart
I got this for Christmas today. I've never tried one of these puzzles before, and it took me about 15 minutes to open it.
Closing it was much more difficult for me and took around 30 minutes. I was trying to re-assemble it peice by peice, and the final two couldn't close in on each other. Then I finally realized I needed to have the whole thing loose, and slide the two halves together.
But I feel that the difficulty rating on this is a bit over-rated.
For someone with zero experience, I would have expected to be tinkering for hours.
I'm going to try another though. They seem really well made chunky peices of metal.
The hidden slooping surface on the silver parts, makes this puzzle beautiful. Not everyone sees that.

Love this video, I even purchased this puzzle shortly after watching. However the one I purchased, which was the one sold by hanayama, wasn't cleaned up properly after it was cast. Meaning the puzzle was difficult to solve because the rough edges from the casting made the parts stick so the movement wasn't nearly as smooth as what was featured in this video. I ended up taking a small file to the edges so I could get a smoother movement.
This is actually one of my favorite puzzles.
There are two arrangement of the puzzle. One where the colors are in a cross config and one where the colors are next to each other. This is only the solution for the cross config arrangement.
Trunks1990dk I got my puzzle stuck in the alternate configuration where the colors are next to each other, have you figured out a solution for undoing this?
+Mark W I just got this puzzle in the mail yesterday. I accidentally put it back together like you said. It took me a while, but I got it apart again. I don't know how I did it, but it can be done.
If you spin it just so, the pins will be pulled back and it will just fall right apart even in the wrong configuration. But so far I've only gotten it just so about one out of 20 or so tries, so it's not a very reliable solution.
I accidently put it back wrong as well. I took it apart but placing the stamped corner up and pulling on the corners.
Just shake it enough times and it should come off also how TF did you accidentally set it like that I can't get it to make it in that config
Taking it apart was easy for me. It happened accidentally when I pushed the center inward. Putting it back together, on the other hand, was a PAIN. Spent an hour trying. After watching your video, I put it back together in one try. Thank you.
It also comes apart very easily if you set it at a 45° angle on a table and spin it. The centrifugal force will blow the pieces apart.
I just shook it violently until it did something
I was able to open mine up just by throwing it in the air. It opens at the peak of the trajectory.
That's because the pins in the corner are dropped because of gravity meaning if you apply centripetal force (i.e spinning it in the air) then the inertia will cause the pins to come apart and it will open.

My girlfriend managed to solve this one twice as quick as I did... A part of me loved it and another part of me hated her for it.
of course another hidden mechanic puzzle. why do makers think that those are a good idea? it doesn't make a puzzle more difficult it just makes it so instead of thinking and problem solving you end up using trial and error and random chance to figure it out. i hate hidden mechanic "puzzles"
Timothy Rodowicz I like the "puzzle" with hidden mech, because I like to listen, move, watch and try to figure what's inside, how it works and how to unlock it. Conversely to what you say, I find myself to do more Try And Error with classical puzzle than with the hidden mech kind. Everybody has its own tastes, I suppose

I found out how you easely can make the SQUARE work just like Mr. Puzzle shows in this video.
Simply add 2 pieces of tape 7,5x7,5 mm over the pins in the 2 gold-parts - you best use a pair of
tweezers and then press the tape down with a cigarette-filter.
Be sure that the tape don't fold or interfere with the cuttings in the parts.
This was an odd one for me, I was messing with it off and on yesterday and couldn’t get it to move past that beautiful shape when it’s pulled. But I picked it up first thing after I woke up this morning, at apparently the exact right angle and it all fell apart. After putting it back together, I determined my solution to be, holding it by a gold corner gently dangling vertically, and tilting and tapping the pegs in place and then pulling it apart.
I did mine in a completely different way, in less than 15 minutes. But I like yours better!. I sat it on a table and spun it, Then twisted the right piece and the whole thing fell apart. But I memorized how it went back together, before I started witch made it it easy.
Saw this video before I bought the puzzle. I tossed it in the air and it fell apart the first time. Putting it back together is the harder part. But the first time I re-assembled it I accidentally put the two gold pieces together and the two silver pieces together (side-by-side), and it was a real pain to take it apart. Not sure why, but it worked in a far less fluid motion.

This is a really easy puzzle to both in disassembly and reassembly so if you are just looking for difficulty in puzzles then give this one a pass. However if you are looking to collect them then absolutely pick one up they are like $9 on amazon and are very beautiful in their design and the way the parts interlock/shift when the puzzle has not yet been "solved".
Way easier to take apart and put back together than the cylinder and equa that i have

Just got one of these today. I figured it was pins so I just kept wiggling it until everything lined up. Probably took me an hour and a half.
Putting it back together was a lot easier I thought after knowing how it came apart. Hand it to my gf she pulls it apart and it just comes a part. Put it back together and give it to her again pulls right apart.
I must have been handing it to her the correct side up. Didn't know about the ramps till I watched this video.
Is this, perhaps, a coordinated motion puzzle?
I will quickly explain with science, there are 4 pins, when they are falling because of gravity both up and down you need some centripetal force (spinning horizontally) to let them fall out, afterwards they want to fall apart
So if you spin it round on a table then it will break off
Or take one corner and shake it! :)

I love Hanayama Puzzles but this one is the worst out of about 20 I own. Level 1 difficulty labeled level 6 for no apparent reason. I picked it up and it fall apart in my hands in 30 seconds.
You should upload the alternative solution where you switch the colors around, have brass on one side and silver on the other. So right now the order (clockwise) is brass, silver, brass, silver. The alternative solution/assembly is brass, brass, silver, silver. I got it but it's still hard to reproduce this solution.

I have this one as well. But my box says it’s a level 6. I was expecting it to very difficult. I took it out of the box and within about 20seconds it came apart... it took me a few min to put it back together. It seemed very easy to do. Definitely not a 6. Maybe a level 2 I would say.
Mine came is a different configuration with two pins going each way and i had to set it up on it's edge and give it a spin.
So I have this but my lil sister put it together incorrectly how do I fix it?

I do NOT at all understand how it should be possible to separate the SQUARE as Mr. Puzzle shows in
his video because when the SQUARE is assembled then 2 of the 4 pins will ALWAYS block separation
no matter in which position you hold it !

I gave up trying to figure out how to solve this one after some time trying to pull it apart, and was just watching things on the computer while I absent-mindedly pulled on it.... then it suddenly exploded into pieces with no warning and I had to figure out what happened, lol.

Why does yours work so easily like this!?! I have to do some weird tapping to make it work like the video. The gold pieces just seem to favour sliding into their holes a little more than the silvers do, so you make use of that. But mine is nowhere near as slick as yours.
It's weird enough that I feel like the gold pieces are just made worse somehow and the true answer is you're meant to spin it or something.
Connecting gold to gold removes the bias of silver vs gold pieces (as silver is now opposite silver, not same side), so you can't use this method alone.
Instead I have to give it a sharp spin (which sets the silver pieces in place) and then tap it carefully to get the gold pins to drop in (which prefer being in vs out).
All in all, very weird.
Couldn't you also stan it vertical and spin it so centrifugal force pulls the pins out?

Hello, I wanted to leave a suggestion of a puzzle,

Buy one. Try the solution and didn't work.
Because the lock system use small pins and remembering some puzzle video, I tryied to spin the puzzle and it opened.
I found that 1 gray part doesn't have the slope so I think my puzzle got a
manufacturing defect.
its not working for me, one sides edges gets stuck on the other sides edges and wont go in.
This is the worst from hanayama tbf. I solved it by holding one corner letting it dangle and shaking it. Basically shaking it lightly by holding loosely one corner and having it hanging.

we have had this exact puzzle at home for years and i know because i have seen someone solve it but not in the same way. that's not the point, it's that someone has fucked it and not have reassembled it back in the right way, i believe. there is two silver on the same side and two golds on the same side. maybe it works. i have tried what you did on the camera for every angle upside down backwards but it doesnt seem to work..
Any way to take it apart when put together wrong? Have golds together and silvers together darn it.

I have this and for the life of me I cannot put it back together. I position my pieces the EXACT same we he has and it seems the 2 pieces just just don’t glide together as easily is his does. I can never get the 2 half’s to fit and it feels like I have to force it. And no there is nothing in the way.
Jasmin Mendoza just remember that it only came apart when everything was at its max distance from each other. So all pieces need to be barely in their correct spots covering up the pins and then it all goes back together all at once... Just like it came apart!

Nevermind. Tried to do it vertically with all pins inside and it worked (gave the pieces more wiggle room)
