  • MK6 GTI footwell lights LED replacement, its a quick and easy way to change the standard yellow bulbs on your gti to some red, blue, green or any color you may want! Bought these 5 LED lights on ebay. Passenger side also has a red LED strip connected to its side for more lighting which I will also be adding to the drivers side.
    Later I will be adding lights to the rear.
    Lights bought on ebay:

    Are you still able to adjust the brightness in the MFI now that you're using LEDs?

      @esqu3l3to  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you can still adjust the brightness. They work like the standard bulbs without issues.

    Hi
    Where did you take power for the strip light

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hello, I took the power for the strip directly from the light itself. When you remove the oem light, cut the led strip wire long enough to fold over then slide it into the connector for both negative and positive wires. Then you can push in the oem light, it will hold it in place while providing power to the led strip and work with dimming like the oem.

      You can use a butter knife, flat enough to bend the small tabs out. I used a small flat head one

      did you try to flip the led over, remember some led are directional. Check you connections and fuse if needed. Unless you blew a fuse, even the oem lights should work.

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The link is at the bottom of the description box. My gti came with oem footwell lights, I simply replaced the bulbs. You should be able to tell if your jetta has them, just have a look and then make sure on your MFI that they are turned up.

    I check the ebay link, I have a 2014 MK6 Wolfsberg GTO and it's telling me it's not compatible. What model is your car? I thought all mk6 would generally be the same so I dunno how yours fit.

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ron Tang hey man, mine is a 2011 mk6 gti. Do you happen to know the bulb type for yours? Some sites on ebay will say they are not compatible even tho they may be. Best thing to do is to search for the bulb type as I did. Some bulb numbers are interchangeable with others like the front park lights are T10 or w5w which are the same. I can't recall the type mine are but I will check again and they may be the same type for yours.

    Can anyone help me please, I have LED strips under my dash and glove box and I'm connecting them to the fuse box but i cant find the right fuse to turn them on when i turn on my headlights. They come on when i turn on my car and stay on till the cars off. Any idea where that fuse would be?? Much appreciated!!

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      your best/easier solution would be to install a switch that you manually turn them on/off instead of splicing into your headlight harness. Do you have footwell lights? if you do you can tap into those instead so the LED strips will light up when you unlock your car and open your doors then turn off after you lock your door.

      Esqu3l3to This is exactly what I want to do... Tie the led strip into factory footwell lights. On my footwell lights, which wire is positive and which is negative? Is it distinguished by color, or do I have to use a volt meter to check? Did u ground the negative wire to a bolt, or did u splice into both the positive and negative wires? Thank you!

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I cannot recall which wire is which as I did not have to splice into the wires. Yes use a volt meter to find the positive wire. I have seen wirimg harnesses that piggy-back of the factory plug. Let me do some searching and see if I can find a link. If not you can just splice onto the harness.

    Thanks for the video. Did you just solder the + and - onto the light bulb fixture? Min 3:35 is the part I am referring to.
    If not how did you wire them?

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Salapow you don't need to solder these lights in, they are wedge bulbs so you simply pull them out and push in the replacements. My gti came with the footwell lights already installed I simply changed the halogens to LED. If yours didn't come with factory lights you can still install them. Here is a link to one of my videos of my lancer.

    • @esqu3l3to
      @esqu3l3to  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mike Salapow hey man, sorry for the late reply but I just noticed your comment. I did not solder the wires, what I did was to connect them by first connecting the LED wires to the pins in the light assembly then sliding on the power connector. that way they stayed on without having to splice into the harness. hope that makes sense.
