Weird- I've seen buzzards being chased and dominated by sparrowhawks dozens of times. You'd have thought that the sparrowhawk's king-size cousin wouldn't have had an issue with them. Then again, I've also seen ravens being chased by crows plenty of times- so clearly size isn't a reliable indicator of dominance in the bird world.
@Forest. I'm 2 years later, but I agree there were two goshawks and two buzzards fighting for the prey. That included one juvenile of each from my perspective. Often while the juvenile goshawk was on the kill another one was calling in the background probably the adult.
Goshawks are DOMINANT over Buzzards ONLY in Nortern Europe since the formers weight the double of the later ones. In Southern Europe the situation is very different.
Buzzards are actually better fighters than ghoshawks , where ghoshawks are better hunters , in a floor match the buzzard is the stronger of the two birds.. facts
@@JOSHWICK93 thx for that comment. People are so uneducated and they do not know shit. Goshawk is perfect hunter and it is great for falconry. The Buzzard is pure opportunist they will eat anything from earthworm to middle weight hare BUT the buzzards are known to be absolutely fearless and winning fights even against herons and chasing them away. On youtube are dozens of fights of Goshawks vs Buzzards - result is Buzzard won in 95% of the cases.
People who think buzzards are weak lazy and useless against a goshawk clearly know nothing about birds if buzzard chose too it would kill a goshawk easily. I have seen a buzzard kill a tawny owl and seen one make a peregrine fly for its life
Ok, so what they are calling buzzards, I would call a broad-winged hawk, like a Redtail Hawk. It ruffles my feathers to hear a hawk being called a buzzard. For me a buzzard is a vulture.@@kierans1159
Red tailed hawks are like buzzards on steroids, bigger talons and greater predatory nature. Also if my sources prove true they are the fastest of the hawks (measured upon stooping and not on the wing).
Birds of prey have endless courage but the one bird is not a "buzzard", It's a Red Tailed Hawk. RT Hawks were called buzzards because no one knew what they were and when the raptor was high in flight they assumed it was a buzzard...
The scientific name of the red-tailed hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) means buzzard from Jamaica, referring to where it was first described. The bird you think is a redtail is actually a common buzzard (Buteo buteo) as this video was filmed in Europe. The name 'buzzard' comes from the German name for Buteo buteo, mäusebussard, which means mouse-catcher.
If it was a red tailed hawk (as much as I love the goshawk) the goshawk would absolutely be dead if it fought it. This is a European buzzard, the cousin of the red tailed hawk, though with smaller talons and much less predatory. Red tailed hawks are almost fearless.
I saw dozens of fights like this, result is surprising but still the same - The Buzzards simply dominates over Goshawks. Like in this video.

I thought Goshawk will win easily.
u pravi trenutak u pravo vrijeme tko čeka taj i dočeka respekt odmene!
Awesome video!!
Beautiful video
3:50 that coot: Yeeelllow! Ugh..., OK, bye!!!
Duckling 1: oh shit
Duckling 2&3: what's wrong with you...

Duckling 2&3: ok run
Good video!!
Sending the best wishes from Siem Reap Angkor Wat, Cambodia
Great footage and quality.

Good stuff thanks. Looks like 2 buzzards and 2 goshawks as well i think?

Loved it, where did you took the video?
Thanx, I took it on the river bank, north Croatia.
Thanks, looks like its great for raptors

Wonderful vid.
Very good video!
Fantastic footaGE ¬
Amazing footage, I didn't think that the Buzzard would actually stand up to a Goshawk.
No way is a female Goshawk giving way to a Buzzard- total mismatch

@@JOSHWICK93 goshawks are much more powerful with much bigger talons
@@JOSHWICK93 it does make sense also thought buzzards were increasing more on the whole so they must be doing something right to survive and spread

Goshawk killed Buzzard´s chicks. They do such brutal attack against chicks all time.
That's coot, video taken in january.
@@LukaHercigonjaThanks. I following Osprey nest. And this year they take to many chicks. Grateful for your remark.
Buzzards ? Where ?
At the end of the video, clearly buteo buteo

Red Tails are too powerful for Goshawks
No red-tailed hawks involved - wrong continent. (This is in eastern Europe.)
