    That was an awesome fix. Thank you! My ten foot double gate just cracked and broke last night from wind . I just piled bricks inside and outside on ground near bottom to hold shut til I fix it. I'm going to try this but not sure if I'll be able to. I will need to buy a ratchet and that vinyl, glue and screws. Thank you! The bottom metal piece that has a hole for the rod pole is bent and not sure how to bend it back so the pole will line up and fall into the pipe in the ground .

    So grateful for this video! I had 2 gates to fix. To replace them would have cost me $500. Instead, after buying the PVC board, glue, and screws, I'm only out $25 instead! I would advise to use painted screw heads just to hide the screws a little more.

    I am having this same problem too! But I worry the Stryker plate will eventually get pulled out from the board. Do you think placing the PVC plate on both sides and securing them together would give better strength against wind?

    That is fine repair job and I need to find a piece of that textured (over the hole) slat for my fence. What is called and is it a big box store item or will I need to buy a case of them? Thanks.

    • @homemend
      @homemend  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Jen no this one was at the depot and they usually sell any piece of wood trim in vinyl or PVC. This one probably cost about 18 bucks because I had to buy a seven footer. I hope this helps

      @@homemend That's good news then. Thanks again for both the how-to-fix-it video and the trim information.

    Nice job on this repair, our gate got damaged either by wind or neighborhood kids banging through it.
    Wondering if PVC glue would make a stronger bond between the patch and the post? That's the kind of glue kind that melts the two surfaces into each other so they are physically bonded.

    • @homemend
      @homemend  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey hey. Building material are some of the toughest things to find links for. This was bought at the Home Depot. It was 5 1/2 inches wide, by 3/8 thick and 8 feet long. It was in the garage door weatherstripping section. I hope this help.

    Question:
    What length pan head screw did U use?

    • @homemend
      @homemend  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Yvonne. These were just long enough to get through the board. I would guess them to be 1 inch

    I am struggling on knowing what to buy! Can you send exactly what I should get for the type of chaulk and the wood you glued onto it? I couldn’t find the board when I went into store

    • @homemend
      @homemend  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Colleen. Just use any construction adhesive in the caulk aisle, You could use liquid nails or the generic one which may be a bit cheaper.Also it was not wood that I used but vinyl. Go to the trim aisle and look for the pieces that are PVC/plastic. Mine was 3/8 thick and 5 1/2 inches wide

    • @colleenlennon6212
      @colleenlennon6212 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did find Vinyl, but they told me they couldn’t cut it for now. How would I be able to get to cut?

    • @homemend
      @homemend  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No Home Depot won’t cut anything but a piece of plywood I believe, you would need to use a Skil saw or maybe someone you know has one that can cut the size you need. Charm goes a long way!

    Can't find the pvc sill in Home Depot or Lowes. Is there another name?

    • @homemend
      @homemend  ปีที่แล้ว

      Those are the two places, the depot is preferred for me and has never let me down. They also sell it in wood cut by the foot.
