If Petsmart or any other store wanted to throw their fish away in the trash, they wouldn't bother putting them in a carrier where they would lose money, they'd just throw them in a garbage bag. That said, my dad did once find two goldfish in a carrier like that at a Sorority House back when he was a garbage man. I'm guessing it was some student that didn't want to bother bringing them back home after a semester.
@@aliciacardella9526 I'm sure it depends on the employee as far as humane deaths go, but bothering to keep them alive in any way when they're just going into the trash seems pointless.
To me it feels pretty obvious that the person put them there themselves for Tik Tok views and even possibly money and there are others who do shit like this and who do pretty well from honestly abusing animals.
@@teijaflink2226 I agree. But isn't it kinda risky legally to do sth like that? I mean, that's basically slander. I'm no legal expert, but it feels very much like slander.
So I researched the brightly coloured axolotls and it is so much worse than I thought, I knew it would be bad but I didn’t know like this bad. basically the axolotls are dipped in an acid that take away there slime coats which is a protective layer that without it they are very absorbant and can die easily without it they are then left in an unsanitary bucket of dye for a day and or are injected for a faster reaction, this is horrible and I’m worried for these naturally beautiful creatures.
@@annataymond9529 apparently it takes a week for them to die. But yeah, the process seems so cruel and invasive, that I would've thought they'd die instantly. So sad and unnecessary, poor axolotles
Imagine how painful that is! Imagine swimming in water that is cold but without any clothes! Just like being dipped in a hot tub and then taking a cold shower :(
From personal experience I have done dumpster diving in petsmart/petco dumpsters. You do find some amazing finds like tanks, aquarium setups and such. But I have had run into several abuse cases with animals. I've found feeder mice, alive, in a bag to be thrown away. A sick parakeet (sadly past away a few hours later) put in a bag and left to die in the dumpster, turtles, and a bearded dragon. This was over the course of 3yrs doing this. And I can say its disgusting to find them in such condition.
cannot speak for petco but petsmarts keep decent inventory of their animals and are required to take sick ones to a vet, and those that do die are sent to be disposed of properly and never go in the regular trash. i have no love for the company and its certainly possible for individual locations/management to mistreat animals but it seems unlikely that many stores are just throwing away animals and wasting their own money
@@mmusial1547 As someone who used to work at PetSmart, I can vouch for this. There was a parakeet we had that actually cost the store over 700$ in vet bills more or less, but we would bring it to them consistently. In general, we would give them medicine and clean out their cages daily if, say, a hamster had wet tail and we needed to track how well they were recuperating and such. While their display set ups are far from appropriate, I will say that I was not allowed to sell pets to anyone who refused to get actual proper setups. If I saw someone with one of their round fishbowls in the cart, we were told to explain to them that those bowls are for marimo moss and shrimp only, and if they refused to get a decent tank, we'd even refuse them sale of goldfish. PetSmart sucks, but they definitely aren't too awful, thankfully.
As a Petsmart groomer, it's true, they don't throw their animals in the regular trash. They do take them to the vet. They could do WAY better in educating customers, not being money grubbing, and not selling things that aren't appropriate for the animals they're advertised for. But there's nobody throwing parakeets into trashbags alive.
The PetSmart I grew up near dumped loads of hamsters in the little green carry boxes/crates you would have gotten if you had bought them. It's so horrible seeing it happen.
I worked at a chain pet store for many years I never knew anyone or any store that dumped live or even dead animals in the skip. We did have people abandoning their sick or unwanted pets behind the store. Alos, I was very heartbroken on day when we found a plastic bag full of dead white doves, each one had been stabbed through its middle to kill it. One was still alive, but sadly died after we took it to the vet. I don't know how people can treat animals like that.
Who would do that to the poor doves..? Abandonment is bad enough but outright slaughtering? And in such a brutal way too?? I hope that sick human gets locked away in jail for inflicting such cruelty.
@@zrainyday5266 someone did that to a bunch of mockingbirds where I live, found a bag full of them someone shot in a field,I was wondering why I never heard any in a while, luckily it never happened again and they have since recovered.
@@bugloverspiderlover8490 That's horrible. If people are going to hunt, it should be for survival and produce, not sports. But I'm glad the local population recovered.
@@zrainyday5266 clay pigeon shooting is a thing too! Why not shoot fake birds for sport rather than torturing poor birds and doing nothing with the bodies afterwards? If you kill an animal, you should make use of it! Don’t just throw it away.
@@lunanote-cassettemeower Oh I've not heard of that but yeah that's great solution. Real hunting should only be legal for people who are going to use the whole animal. For people who only want to hunt due to their strange animal killing urges, it should be just clay or wooden pigeons. In theory it should give someone the exact same feeling right? Unless they're an actual psychopath.
Yes,as a turtle owner the turtles love scrubbing(gentle obv) but if you do there thing where you peal off the shell it can get infected and it really hurts them
as the guy who tagged you in the turtle video, it made me so sick! it made me really upset when i saw it. i'm so glad you brought to attention how harmful that can be for the turtles! poor things :(
ive never seen something like that as as soon as the first scute was flaked off I felt so ill and disturbed. I have never owned a turtle and didn't really process that ofc they have to shed- but hat tool thing and the forced shedding was so horrible
it is worth mentioning that like snakes, once turtles start the shedding process it doesn't hurt them to get the scutes off (provided the scute is say, half off already) - HOWEVER, this video is directly harming as the scutes are not already coming off, they're still attached and they are forcing them off. This could open the new shell underneath to being damaged very easily.
Turtles can get stuck scutes but it's more common if the animal has a medical issue. I am speaking from experience, I was doing a high school co-op at an aquarium/ zoo (in the animal husbandry team) that also rehabilitates injured animals, specifically turtles. (Warning, I speak of death) We had two turtles named 4 and 6 (originally there were 8) who all got hit by vehicles. The turtles needed surgery and one of them had a leg amputated(6). Most of the turtles died before surgery, two died after. 6 had stuck scutes however, we never EVER attempted to take them off ourselves as it is highly uncomfortable and it is painful for them. We would give her a scrub with a soft tooth brush every two days or so(same with all the other turtles) to try and help her with her shell. 4 also had some stuck scutes but it was never as bad. 4 lost mobility in his back legs so we would give him massages and do turtle physio. By the end of my co-op, 4 had gained back around 40% mobility in his back legs. This was last year, I was in grade 11 at the time. I in no way claim to be an expert, I am merely an aspiring herptile educator who wants to help!
Yeah, you really shouldn't peel or rip off really any reptile's shed unless it's absolutely necessary and you know what you're doing or it's already shed off but just stuck to them like wet clothes and not actually attached. I'm mainly referring to snakes and lizards with that, though. Really can't see ever needing to with a turtle or tortoise even when they do have issues. And even if you do somehow need to, you really should take them to a vet instead of just grabbing some tool and hacking away. Also those comments.... "bones don't have nerves"????? Huh?????? Tell that to my mom that just had spinal surgery because of an issue with exactly that! And I know teeth aren't exaaaactly bones, but if you've ever lost a tooth that still had some stuff hanging on or had a tooth pulled, you can literally see the nerves. Has that commenter never hit their "funny bone" before????
It looks like it's down to the bone. I've seen a decent amount of turtle skeletons and they all looked like that but no flesh obviously. Am I right to assume there's no turtle species that's supposed to be that color?
@@katrinascarlet5637 albino turtles exist, the turtle in that video may have been an albino That poor turtle though, that looks so, so, so painful 😥 how can anyone defend that? I’m no turtle expert but I can tell right away that that’s GOTTA hurt. Compare it to ripping off a hangnail, it hurts a LOT and it takes a while to recover. It’s much better to clip them or let them go away naturally. Don’t rip it off, as that’ll hurt a looooot! I speak from experience.
In vet tech school we had turtles with stuck scutes and we did daily treatments to slowly get it off but not harshly like this! and hydrotherapy and VERY gently, we were always supervised by our teachers (vets) too to make sure we were not hurting the turtles
I have diagnosed arachnophobia and seeing cute videos like that jumping spider helps! I love her tank? set-up so much!!! I personally don't mind seeing spiders in videos or in a tank. I'm more affected about coming in physical contact with them and am more triggered about the potentially of coming into unexpected contact (such as going into certain rooms or outside). But places in which I can control my contact such as videos don't really affect me very much and do more good than bad for me at least.
That's so interesting because I'm the exact same! I know many people with arachnophobia but theirs is usually different, and they are more affected by just seeing any kind of spider while I am usually fine with photos/videos of them since it's a controlled environment. It's only when people make stupid jumpscare videos and the spider has really long legs compared to its body (like orb weavers and Goliath hunting spiders) that I get uncomfortable but even then it's only the initial startle and after that I'm fine quite quickly again. But yeah, I'm the exact same in the sense that what affects me most isn't really the spider itself as much as the potential sudden contact with one or suddenly finding one in my vicinity XD Also seeing a spider is doable, but seeing it and then losing sight of it is... horrible :') I can't rest easily until I know where it is XD
I love watching the progression of my turtle shedding. I don't know why people would peel it prematurely. I just like seeing the progress of it and then when it's fully come off I congratulate him and he looks super excited about it!
Seeing reptiles she’d their skin is so satisfying. I like seeing what the molted skin of a snake looks like, it’s so satisfying when the shed skin is done completely evenly and it’s just the shape of the whole snake. Snakes are sooo cool.
omg, that pet jumping spooder at the end was totally adorable, and the set up was so awesome, and with how curious jumping spiders are, and the fact they do need a lot of hiding places, this is a spiders haven, so many hiding spots for it to explore in and to ambush it's food dish from ^_^
9:54 - Yes, sometimes the scutes of a turtle's shell can get stuck on there (have had this happen to my special needs turtle w/ MBD) and will have to be carefully removed, but I'd only do it if the scute is coming mostly off anyway. Most of the time, the scutes will just pop off on their own, definitely no need to peel them off with any sort of tool like that guy's doing to his turtle, that's definitely painful for them.
I don't think the pet store dumpster video is real. A big reason is because I'm sure if they were going to "throw fish away" they would probably just throw them in a bag w/no water and then into the dumpster, not nicely place them into the dumpster in a small plastic tank filled with water.
It could be that whoever dumped them's logic was wanting them to live as long as possible, so they set them in there with water and open to the air, rather than just slinging them in. Maybe either an employee that felt bad about being forced to do it or someone dumping the pets they couldn't care for.
I thought the spider enclosure was for a hamster at first and was very nervous because of the bridges and the height and stuff, but seeing that little spider start walking over made me so happy :)
I used to work at petsmart, we didn't throw out animals ever! People would come by and dump animals though and I would always get in trouble for bringing them in the back and nursing them back to health. I also adopted two cats from people just abandoning them there, on two separate occasions 😭. Kwan and Mika, they are and were the sweetest kitties and I had them for a long time. Mika is now 10 and lives with my grandparents, sadly Kwan has passed and was my baby. I miss her. 💜 I am a pet sitter now for a different company, glad to be away from that place. I couldn't stand some of their policies.
The turtle one gave me chills. The best way I’ve seen it explained was when a wild life officer compared forcing shed off snakes, lizard, and turtles like ripping a finger or toe nail off….like awwwwww.
I had many over the years,my latest just passed away a few months ago,I’ll probably get a new one in the spring,as I catch my own and I only catch the largest, highest quality ones to breed.
Yeah. Recently bought one, she’s had big improvement sense then. Started in a really dirty, small container, in a corner where no one sees them with a constant UV light. I don’t think they were feeding them much once, around once a week it seems (just a guess). And like you said, it’s like they were a brand, selling stuff to make them glow more. It was really sad seeing them :(
@@EvieWivey Awe :c I'm so happy you gave them an actual home! I really hate the fact that people thought it would be a good idea to market fish to children. The world needs more people like you.
A friend told me about how they went to Petco yesterday just to walk around and pass time. He said there was a sign saying the ferrets were under investigation and not for sale. Apparently there was just a pile of suspected dead ferrets in the corner of the little tank. I wonder what happened. My best guess is that they got sick.
There are several diseases that can kill badly kept ferrets easily. One example would be ECE, another one Covid19. Or parasites like giardia or coccidia. Pet stores that sell pets are usually awful anyway, sooo
That jumping spider is a female P. regius! They're readily available in the invertebrate pet trade and make fantastic pets! I personally have two of them!
The peeling of the scutes I was like “oh I’ve seen some good owner do this to the skeleton of a dead tortoise for education, why is it so bad?” THEN I SAW IT WAS ALIVE! Such unimaginable pain that creature must be in… (I wanna use the crying emoji but it doesn’t seem serious enough for the topic)
Wild caught jumping spiders don’t make good pets and all it will do is make them fear you and bite you if you try and hold them. If you want a jumper, please buy a captive breed one, namely one that’s been raised by a loving owner previously.
It breaks my heart knowing that TikTok (and TH-cam) allow animal abuse on their platform. And several days ago, I made a video regarding a channel you talked about (FROG EAT more specifically), and TH-cam probably knows that there is animal abuse on their platform, but doesn't care because money is more important to them than an animals life! I wished TH-cam (and TikTok) had an animal abuse category in the reporting section. Also, that spider is super cute.
I'm not sure if you seen it before but there was a horrifically cruel and absolutely disgusting thing called "firefly axolotls" where they would cut a tail off of one baby axolotl and attach it to another of a different color (basically just swapping their tails) to give it a firefly like tail and to get them to sell more
the jumping spider enclosure lacked places for the spider to hide and since they are aboreal animals, they will not use the tiki at the bottom of the enclosure, thats my criticism of it. it also did not replicate the natural setting of their habitat at all.
I saw this video on TH-cam shorts of 2 axolotls in a plastic container and commented on how bad that was for them, and how it's isn't proper care and that axolotls are literally endangered and people were defending the person who made the video. Like they're obviously not giving those axolotls the proper care, how could you stick up for animal cruelty!
Turtle shell layers can sometimes get stuck just like lizard or snake sheds. If there is not a proper Basking area in combination with humidity...... In general They should be left alone to lose on their own. Unless It's health detriment for it to remain You should not Remove it unless you know what you're doing. It's just like peeling off a sunburn on a human before it's ready to come off
That’s exactly right. And if the scutes are not coming off by themselves, there’s probably some sort of shell deformity caused by lack of vitamin D (sun), poor diet, filthy water.
I went to the zoo the other day. They had a pretty good looking axolotl! He was fairly big, was in a decent sized tank, his gills were lovely too! But he looked like a mini Toothless! There was also a lizard with the narliest claves I ever did see on a lizard.
7:22 Jezus... It probobly feels like these moments wgere you accudentaly peel of to much skin when dealing with you know these digusting things that sometimes form on the foot.
I know some pet owners just throw out animals in garbage bins, and I’ve heard of some people just finding fish or other small animals in pet store trash, but they were in either plastic bags or cardboard, either sick, injured or dead. I doubt any store would get rid of a ‘tank’ like that instead of just throwing them out without one, especially if put in so gently. You’d think the water would spill or something.
The tool used on the turtle is actually an electronics repair tool used to pry open phone screens/computer cases or to manipulate the internal components.
12:37 I don't know anything about pet Spiders, but how do you keep the enclosure that clean It does look really cute, but also looks like a vacation flat when you just arrived
I also don't know much about pet spiders, but I see and interact with jumping spiders quite often, they don't make webs to catch prey they use it like a climbing rope or make a little nest clump in a corner when they have babies. I also don't see them poo very much, for insects it's usually just a drop of white liquid so I don't think they're that messy :)
@@ShrimpZipperz yep, I think all or at least most spiders can make webbing but they all use it in different ways. Orb weavers, black widows, etc make the typical webs you associate with spiders. Wolf spiders only use webs to make their nest/hide. Tarantulas also use it for their hide, and it also helps detect nearby prey since their eyesight sucks. And as I mentioned jumping spiders use it like climbing rope in case they fall, whenever I let one crawl on my hand I notice lots of tiny little strings left on my fingers afterwards lol
The petsmart one is fake as hell. If they had to dispose of fish (most likely due to some kind of illness that isn't easily treatable) they would most likely be euthed with clove oil and dry bagged, not carefully placed in a critter keeper with water in it. Some wouldn't even use the dumpster! Depending on the supplier they might have to freeze and send back for cost refund/evidence of an error on the supplier's end.
Places like Petco and PetSmart will NOT throw out live animals. If an animal like a fish dies in their care, it is frozen in the back, and they get a credit for it before they dispose of the deceased animal.
unfortunately for the turtle clip, i'd assume they were doing that because they had an albino turtle to look all pretty in white. they clearly had a second white turtle. i guess unshed scutes just looked too "dirty".
12:25 I wanna say it's fake. the fish are in a carrier and it looks like they were just placed in the bottom. if someone was just throwing them away then they wouldn't be so carefully placed. those dumpsters are tall and so it would take a great deal of intent to actually get a small container of water down there so cleanly
The one with the turtle made me so sick I wasn't ready and I had to look away. I don't know to much about turtles but I've had a sulcata tortoises since I was 3. He seems to have a pretty sensitive shell and loves when you pet it, it gets a little flaky sometimes but the caps have never come off. From what I've read they have the same amount of feel as we do in our nails so I imagine having one removed would feel like getting your nail removed.
If you find fish in a pet store dumpster, nine out of ten times it's a person who didn't want them anymore and dumped them in the dumpster. But, with that being said, with the shadier pet stores, it is a big possibility that the employees are made to toss out undersireable or sick fish in the dumpster, but they usually hide them or just dump them without water so they die.
As a PetSmart employee, that isn't a carrier we have in store at all nor would it be used to dispose of a live animal. As well as any sick animals go into an iso tank. Shes very much right on the fact this was either staged or someone else placed them there. PetSmart return policy on animals is 14 days and its pretty common for people to get upset that we won't take back an animal or even take just any animal, so they just leave them with us without saying anything. When I first started, someone even ditched a painted turtle at our doorstep during a winter morning. My store doesnt carry painted turtles.
Confirmed, guppies are jumpers. I put mine in a bowl while I was doing a thorough cleaning of their tank. A little tight for them but it was all I had. However I did not realize the guppies would randomly jump out of it so one of the females landed about 1.5m down straight onto the floor. I think she landed on her head cuz there was blood on the floor and and she had something red on her head. I wasn't able to properly check her cuz I wanted her to get back to the water so I carefully scooped her up with my hands and down in the bowl again, with a towel over this time. Its around.. 4 weeks ago now maybe. All the fish are fine, including her so I think she healed very well. No sign of dying whatsoever lol so that was a lucky shot
In my local pet store, one of the workers is an axolotl breeder and he is amazing at taking care of them! He has been helping a bit with giving me information on how to take care of them since I am getting one
This is for stuck shed, and not normal shedding. You may help turtles with stuck shed by using a soft toothbrush. You gently brush around the edge of the scoots to loosen the edge.
My puppy’s name is willow too! She was born on Christmas Day. We’re also training her to be my therapy dog and she’s doing very very well. (She’s a Cavoodle)
Me as an adult finding that they will jump out in too small a tank relieves so much guilt. I was pet sitting for my friends when I was like 9, and they had Bettas in one of those tiny tanks that have a single glass divider and nothing else. Both of them jumped out repeatedly, and I failed to find them eventually and they passed. I've been so guilty, but now I know it was their fault for putting them in so small a tank.
Whenever I tried to put helpful advice or say when they’re abusing I get called a TikTok vet, vegan (as a insult sadly), Karen, tree hugger, etc. They never do their own research and TikTok normalizes it
Yeah, I've gotten that too. It's so sad and frustrating when people refuse to listen to things that could help their animals live better lives :( Animal welfare is such an important thing, yet people will just throw it to the wayside for views on TikTok.
I remember watching your videos like crazy when you did my little pony stuff, it's cool to see that you found another path and find success in it :) I love your content so much.
Depends entirely on the aquascape and the shrimp. Most shrimp need proper tank setups, just putting them in a glass with some plants is bad in the long run. For instance the species sold as seamonkeys need a proper setup and not some tiny container they'll soon die in.
@@Call-me-Al true, very true. they could do like i did when i was cycleing my tank....the fake fish are pretty realistic noadays. i had a fake dragonfish.
pet stores euthanize before disposing. they either use clove oil, or they put the fish in a bag and smash it against the wall (it sounds cruel, but it's very fast and effective, so the fish might feel slight pain for only a second- whereas even clove oil can sting their gills). then they dispose of the dead fish in bags. they CERTAINLY do not put them in brand new pet carriers with clean water, and set them carefully in the corner of the dumpster on a flat box.
the petsmart one is almost definitely staged, those kritter keepers are too expensive for them to throw away fish in lol. theyd just dump em, alive, into the dumpster >:(
The saddest animal abuse story I know is when my classmate and her friend got my classmates hamster and threw it against the wall . the hamster didn’t die but they filmed it and posted it on TikTok and my other classmates saw it and hated the fuck out of her . she cried so much. And it’s not like she was young ,she was 10 or 11 which is young but like you still know at that age you shouldn’t throw your hamster at the wall , later when the hamster died her mum got her new a hamster. her mum new what she was doing with the hamster but she still got her another one !!! it’s just so sad , people can be cruel you know 😔
You CAN help peel certain animals, but ONLY when the dead layers are stuck or the animal is struggling to get it off That turtles shell was absolutely not ready to shed yet, and even so turtles are way better at getting it off themselves rather than you getting in the way and hurting it.
yeah it's annoying when people share their knowledge when they aren't really educated about it. sometimes snakes skin peel badly and need aid but that's also approached differently. I have turtles for 23 years (1 21 years the other 23 years) and I don't peel their shield as it comes off by itself always.
i didnt take care of my turtle the first few years of his life bc i got him as a gift when i was 13. he had like 2 layers of scutes stuck on his shell by the time i realized i wasnt caring for him properly so i had to gently pull some off. sometimes they do get stuck if you dont care for the turtle properly :(
That poor turtle.. I imagine it probably feels like having your fingernails ripped off. Or like.. having your dead skin torn off in chunks. That crap still hurts.
with the carrier behind a petsmart, that 100% looks like a case of "sorry, i cant take those back" and the disgruntled customer with no care for the animals that either outgrew the tank or they got bored of simply. tossed them. you'd be extremely hard pressed to convince me some retail worker went out of their way to throw out four products for no reason. a local petco here had a _duffel bag_ of 8 mutilated and still alive adult guinea pigs dumped in front of the store. horrific things happen around the store, but i know with 100% certainty that bag was *not* and never would have been from one of the employees themselves.
My middle school principal office had a vase on the desk so you would see it when you walk in and it had some big fern or plant in it. I don't know what it was, but they had a blue Betta fish in there. I don't know how they fed it if they ever did because the plant took up the entire vase and opening so it barely had any room to swim around in due to the plant's roots and it would likely be hard to clean and feed the fish, and all the time it looked like it was either sleeping or just staying still to conserve energy. I always felt so bad for it because that's no way to keep a fish and it was in a school of all places. They were using a live animal as a decoration. I wonder if they replaced the fish since I doubt it's still alive. No heating or cleaning or filtration to provide oxygen and is in a very stressful situation. I get it schools and animals don't mix but it's a good thing to teach students about animals, but this is not the way to do it. They get money all the time but can't afford to properly keep a pet? Ridiculous
You can do a cheap aqua scape in a larger tank by using cheap bunch lead plants like vallisneria. They are super cheap plants and create runners in the tank. You can get a forest of them in a few months. They like hard water, but can survive in most tanks. They are good cover for fish and shrimp as well. Just add the plant, some root tabs and a piece of wood. Walla. Aqua scape.
I’d love to do an “aquarium” and only put plants like those soft moss ball looking stuff and other plants inside it like a full on jungle so whenever someone comes into my house they’ll look for any animals but there are none😂
The petsmart one looks staged as heck to me. Why would an employee put discarded fish, live, in water, in a little container, in the dumpster? Why would someone abandoning their fish place the container carefully upright inside of a dumpster? The only person who would put it upright inside a dumpster is someone who wanted to film themselves "finding" it and "rescuing" the fish. It's very popular to make stuff up to try to demonize companies for clout. A friend of mine was a manager of a petsmart a few years back and actually lost his job because someone with PETA had faked a video that made it seem like they were abusing small animals in the store. He was actually ARRESTED, and his name all over local news, because of it, only to later be cleared of all charges because it was fake and his store wasn't abusing anything. He still lost the job, though, because petsmart couldn't afford the negative publicity now associated with him, even if it was fake. I take fake-ass "accusing places of abuse" videos personally after that.
Stuck scoots just end up making malformed scoots at leas as ive seen. That's why you can see abuse in the scoots. Never peel them, just use a tooth brush and clean them up of dirt, because they live the bristles of a toothbrush (at least the turtle i worked with did)
The turtle one confuses me a little - is the problem that the scutes aren't ready to go yet? Do turtle scutes usually shed more gradually? I'm only really familiar with shedding in other reptiles; e.g. snakes - where it's not painful or harmful to help them shed as long as the shed is ready to go and isn't actually stuck (usually from humidity issues) (That being said, obviously a metal chisel is a pretty intense way of removing scutes regardless of if they're ready)
Yeah the scutes start to curl up when they’re ready to peel off, the ones in the video weren’t even pealing, even then it can be painful if you attempt to rip them off yourself, they’re a bit different to other shedding reptile skin since they’re harder to come off and still have nerves, they will pop off when they’re ready
Turtle shells are full of nerves, they like scratches and pets and gentle brushing with soft tools- so using a metal tool to force them to shed would be like being skinned alive. The scutes should look like the are curling off of the shell and will usually fall off on their own. Even if you must help remove them it sounds like the best options are some comfortable temp water, and a soft brush (either held by the owner, or set up for the turtle to rub on).
Something interesting is this pet shop near my grandmas, all the fishtanks and rabbit/Guinea pig places are really shitty because the people don't know what they're doing, but all the reptile, frog and but places are amazing, because the person was an ex zoo keeper at a really good zoo (he left because they banned safe handling of the animals, eg, holding a lizard in your hands for a little while). This proves that if petshops gave a shit, they could have amazing and safe places to keep their animals (btw I live in Australia, in case if that helps with any pet laws etc)
Omg … first off very cute jumping spider and enclosure ❤ Secondly that fish video sorta and all those people just throwing fish out in the garbage actually reminded me of how I got my old Pleco Peter, they were dumped outside my moms work on the sidewalk and we had to go up and save them. It was honestly really sad, I will never understand why people do that stuff, if you cannot care for a pet then don’t get one or give it away to someone who will if u can’t take care of it or even don’t want it anymore even if that maybe hard to do, they’ll live a much better life in someone’s hands who can actually care for them! Btw Peter lived for a VERY long time after we rescued them too and only back in, I want to say, 2020-2021 did he pass along with our goldfish grumpy which had been around for a long while as well, we had him for such a long time and we didn’t even know how old he was when we rescued him. I sorta feel like that just goes to show if you at least try or give a pet away that you can no longer care for, they’ll live much much longer in the hands of someone who can provide what they need, as I said before, you can also give them to someone close to you if you’d really like to see them still so it’s not all too bad in those cases bc u can still see the pet you love ^^!
Glo-fish are usually skirt tetras. Those are big tetras that need at least 20 gallons, preferably more if you want a good looking school! Glo-fish also have Priscilla tetras, danios, tiger barbs, rainbow sharks, and Bettas. Apparently now there are cory catfish glo-fish but I'm not sure if that's just a rumor or not.
The cockatiel probably has taken out all of its feathers by itself due to stress, and I hope the person who made a video of it is a person who is like the rescuer. The one who took the bird in from anywhere they took it, not the person who caused it stress.
Oh god I literally almost puked at the turtle one I’m not kidding, it’s like watching someone get scalped…just because an animal can’t scream doesn’t mean they can’t feel pain holy shit
God I was REALLY hoping the axolotl dying was gonna turn out to be like how (at least the responsible people) dye flamingos - that of which is simply a matter of what they feed the flamingos such as like salmon leading to them turning that iconic pink - other dietary changes can change their color and some other birds and animals are similar in that regard. Obviously if you have a pet that can change color from diet or pellets that have those compounds extracted from a particular diet to get those colorings just double check what those extracts and foods are to ensure that your animal’s diet won’t be imbalanced in order to get those colors or if there are side affects.
They probably wouldn’t just throw them out alive too- they have big freezers, I’m sure they’d freeze them first if they had to kill them
@@aliciacardella9526 I'm sure it depends on the employee as far as humane deaths go, but bothering to keep them alive in any way when they're just going into the trash seems pointless.
To me it feels pretty obvious that the person put them there themselves for Tik Tok views and even possibly money and there are others who do shit like this and who do pretty well from honestly abusing animals.

Dang. How do you think that would affect their lifespan?? I’m surprised they survive the process at all.

Did you save any?
cannot speak for petco but petsmarts keep decent inventory of their animals and are required to take sick ones to a vet, and those that do die are sent to be disposed of properly and never go in the regular trash. i have no love for the company and its certainly possible for individual locations/management to mistreat animals but it seems unlikely that many stores are just throwing away animals and wasting their own money

I had no idea turtles had nerves in their shells :0 I’ve seen videos of people brushing turtle shells with toothbrushes and the turtles wiggle
Yup my turtle loves her shell scratches
Yes,as a turtle owner the turtles love scrubbing(gentle obv) but if you do there thing where you peal off the shell it can get infected and it really hurts them
Yes people assume they're like hooves but they're very much not.
Ig it makes sense it covers pretty much their entire body and without being able to feel a thing they'd be putting themselves in danger much more
Off to brush my turtle!
as the guy who tagged you in the turtle video, it made me so sick! it made me really upset when i saw it. i'm so glad you brought to attention how harmful that can be for the turtles! poor things :(
ive never seen something like that as as soon as the first scute was flaked off I felt so ill and disturbed. I have never owned a turtle and didn't really process that ofc they have to shed- but hat tool thing and the forced shedding was so horrible
I've never had a turtle but I know their shell is sensitive. It was so difficult to watch. The turtle looked so used to it too. 😔 poor thing
it is worth mentioning that like snakes, once turtles start the shedding process it doesn't hurt them to get the scutes off (provided the scute is say, half off already) - HOWEVER, this video is directly harming as the scutes are not already coming off, they're still attached and they are forcing them off.
@@katrinascarlet5637 albino turtles exist, the turtle in that video may have been an albino
That poor turtle though, that looks so, so, so painful 😥 how can anyone defend that? I’m no turtle expert but I can tell right away that that’s GOTTA hurt.
Compare it to ripping off a hangnail, it hurts a LOT and it takes a while to recover. It’s much better to clip them or let them go away naturally. Don’t rip it off, as that’ll hurt a looooot! I speak from experience.
Have you gotten any updates on how the turtles are doing?
Jumping spiders are the only kind that don't give me the shutters when I see them.
I didn't know you could get diagnosed with a phobia? Interesting!
@@lunanote-cassettemeower Yeah! I have three of my snakes sheds, I get so proud of him when he completes his shedding.
omg, that pet jumping spooder at the end was totally adorable, and the set up was so awesome, and with how curious jumping spiders are, and the fact they do need a lot of hiding places, this is a spiders haven, so many hiding spots for it to explore in and to ambush it's food dish from ^_^
9:54 - Yes, sometimes the scutes of a turtle's shell can get stuck on there (have had this happen to my special needs turtle w/ MBD) and will have to be carefully removed, but I'd only do it if the scute is coming mostly off anyway.
Yeah,
Ikr
Probably was an owner disposing of their unwanted pets, if the video is real and not staged
It could be that whoever dumped them's logic was wanting them to live as long as possible, so they set them in there with water and open to the air, rather than just slinging them in. Maybe either an employee that felt bad about being forced to do it or someone dumping the pets they couldn't care for.
Makes me so sad that people actually abuse animals on Tik Tok just for views and that nothing happens to them.
I thought the spider enclosure was for a hamster at first and was very nervous because of the bridges and the height and stuff, but seeing that little spider start walking over made me so happy :)
Jumping spiders need a lot of height
I used to work at petsmart, we didn't throw out animals ever! People would come by and dump animals though and I would always get in trouble for bringing them in the back and nursing them back to health. I also adopted two cats from people just abandoning them there, on two separate occasions 😭. Kwan and Mika, they are and were the sweetest kitties and I had them for a long time. Mika is now 10 and lives with my grandparents, sadly Kwan has passed and was my baby. I miss her. 💜 I am a pet sitter now for a different company, glad to be away from that place. I couldn't stand some of their policies.
I had no idea turtles had feelings in their shells. I’m happy knowing they can actually feel me petting them tho.
The turtle one gave me chills. The best way I’ve seen it explained was when a wild life officer compared forcing shed off snakes, lizard, and turtles like ripping a finger or toe nail off….like awwwwww.

I’m pretty sure that most jumping spider or all, don’t make webs
@@ShrimpZipperz yep, I think all or at least most spiders can make webbing but they all use it in different ways. Orb weavers, black widows, etc make the typical webs you associate with spiders. Wolf spiders only use webs to make their nest/hide. Tarantulas also use it for their hide, and it also helps detect nearby prey since their eyesight sucks. And as I mentioned jumping spiders use it like climbing rope in case they fall, whenever I let one crawl on my hand I notice lots of tiny little strings left on my fingers afterwards lol
These dyed Axolotls are a nightmare! How horrifying!!! What is wrong with people? 😭
8:46 “why do people get so angry when I peel of their skin???? 🙄🙄🙄”
3:40 SOMEONE SAID “Water hard to change” I DONT THINK THATS THE ONLY ISSUE 😭😭😭
My cockatiel went crazy while I watched this because of the background noise 😭💕

And it’s not like she was young ,she was 10 or 11 which is young but like you still know at that age you shouldn’t throw your hamster at the wall , later when the hamster died her mum got her new a hamster. her mum new what she was doing with the hamster but she still got her another one !!! it’s just so sad , people can be cruel you know 😔
You CAN help peel certain animals, but ONLY when the dead layers are stuck or the animal is struggling to get it off
That turtles shell was absolutely not ready to shed yet, and even so turtles are way better at getting it off themselves rather than you getting in the way and hurting it.
yeah it's annoying when people share their knowledge when they aren't really educated about it. sometimes snakes skin peel badly and need aid but that's also approached differently.
If the scoots pop off that easy then they are ready to come off but it’s really not necessary
Ridiculous
for turtles, sometimes they need a little help if theyre shedding their scutes, but like 0.1 grams of force, not prying with a lot of obvious effort.
Ikr
i made an audible sound of distress when i saw the poor axolotls, the poor babies must just be suffering
I'm only really familiar with shedding in other reptiles; e.g. snakes - where it's not painful or harmful to help them shed as long as the shed is ready to go and isn't actually stuck (usually from humidity issues)
(That being said, obviously a metal chisel is a pretty intense way of removing scutes regardless of if they're ready)
With my turtle and tortoise at most I use a tooth brush to scrub the shell they really lean into so I think they like it
Willow is so adorable😍😍😍
my brother said "you two should be friends" and that made me smile. my goal is to be a knowledgeable pet owner like Soda ❤
A colourful axolotl is cool, IN CONCEPT. But let’s leave them in Minecraft where no one is actually harmed
I cant even watch the guy peeling the turtle’s shell off. omg poor fella.
the jumping spider one made my day :)
12:37 omg i LOVE THIS!
Wow you’ve done your research! I barley know anything about what’s good or bad for animals so it’s always interesting to learn new things 😅💕
Omg … first off very cute jumping spider and enclosure ❤
Secondly that fish video sorta and all those people just throwing fish out in the garbage actually reminded me of how I got my old Pleco Peter, they were dumped outside my moms work on the sidewalk and we had to go up and save them.
3:41 the only thing i think the animal that will actually fit in there is Brine shrimp or moina(idk how to spell it)
Glo-fish are usually skirt tetras.
Humans: I respect all animals equally!
Roaches: exists*
Humans: GO TO HECK
Well they do cause food to become gross
The cockatiel probably has taken out all of its feathers by itself due to stress, and I hope the person who made a video of it is a person who is like the rescuer. The one who took the bird in from anywhere they took it, not the person who caused it stress.
I consider glow fish to be a brand
Oh god I literally almost puked at the turtle one I’m not kidding, it’s like watching someone get scalped…just because an animal can’t scream doesn’t mean they can’t feel pain holy shit
The turtle scute video is my 13th reason. I have 4 turtles and I can tell you that is not okay at all! They can feel all of that
I think axolotls are so cute, so I got a big huggable realistic plush toy of one because absolutely no way I would ever be able to take care of one.
Flamigos are the only animal that diet can change colors and its only with the featherd
10:30 I had 4 of those fish and they help eat algae the back one is called a
Suckfish
