Good morning from the farm! Sitting on a bench in the sunlight, watching OWTM. About 60F /15C and expect about 70/21 today. I’m about to go fetch trail cam cards. A couple hunters are coming about 10:30 and we’ll set up blinds and sight in the rifles. Should be a great day for that. -- You are right about the good rock sounding better. My dad was a geologist and worked in limestone quarries, so there are some of those sayings in my background too. It’s like the good wood - it rings instead of just making a thud sound. I know what you mean. Here in the UK I stopped going to the DIY sheds a few years ago for timber, you had to look at 100ft or so to find 1 straight piece.
Have the biggest limestone quarry in the world 45 minutes north of me. In Rogers City on lake Huron. They are always loading freighters there. Massive hole. There’s a platform you can see it all.
Mike, I love your channel. I have watched probably 900 of your 945 videos and wanted to encourage you to keep making them, they are great, my family gets a lot of enjoyment from them. Like a lot of your viewers, I watch because we enjoy doing a lot of the same things and I can kind of live vicariously through your channel. I like how thorough you are and the quality of the work you do. Like everyone else who comments, your heavy equipment skills are impressive. Slow and steady wins the race. I was wondering if there was a dent or hole in the top of you MX5400. At 18:30 while loading your dump trailer it looked like there was a dent in the Kubota's roof. I used to have an L6060 and was a little underwhelmed with the quality of the plastic roof. Luckily, or maybe not so luckily, here on the plains of Colorado we don't have trees that can poke holes in it. You look like you have a great family. P.S. I loved your 4th of July episodes and the respect/pride you have for our country. Keep the faith, there are like minded people like us all across our beautiful land. Oh yeah, put me down for one more vote to keep numbering your videos. That's how I keep track and know which video to watch next when it's been a week or two since my last Morgan's fix :o)
the Pros like interstate pipe know time is money. you might be able to do an order online or by phone and they can have it ready for you. As a truck driver I delivered to many Pro operations, they would get us unloaded in a flash, most time what they needed off the truck was in the front on the bottom. plus they wanted us out of their lot. same thing with lumber, go to the mill and buy it from them, sometimes they will ask you to "Marry up" with another buyer to make a larger project(this will bring your dollar per board foot down) most large mills also have inside sales reps that can help you with this.

Even the pros use big box stores here in eastern NC. We are a good 1 1/2 hours from any industrial area (All tourist here) and really 3 hours to a major industrial area... you learn to work with what you have. Hey, but we love it here!

Good Morning From FLA (Florida Lower Alabama) Panhandle. I agree with the "Go where the pro's go". Even as a first timer to a project they have always gone the extra step. I install garage doors and when I did my first one as a absolute beginner...1st door no experience at all, the guys signed me up for a hands on class with their product to teach me how to do it at home on Saturday, I planned on doing it over the weekend 2 days. I left confident in my ability to do it right, 3 hours later I was done...then I made a business out of it.... The Pro's know.
At the pro vendors it doesn't matter if you order a little bit more to be on the safe side because for most products you can return what you didn't need and money back. And they are often so much more helpful and can tell you if you forgot something for your project.
After building highways and moving large amounts of earth for 46 years you did excellent on explaining the fabric, stone types, and the weights of the stone which is important when calculating material for a job!. We have a pipe supply company and that's where I buy all my pipe and you are right about buying things from a supply house our well pump quit working and the well man wanted a thousand dollars to replace it. So I went to car supply and bought a new pump for 370.00 dollars, pulled the old one out and put the new one in!, we got water now!, and it was cheaper than Lowe's!.its another great day here in southeastern ohio and you guys enjoy and have a good day!.
Mike the funny thing about big box oranges store is you will take up to 15 minutes waiting for someone to ask if they could help you only to tell you that's not in their department but they will call someone to help you

Some, not all, of the professional suppliers near me won't sell to individuals. There is a heating and cooling supplier that comes to mind, but when it is an option I totally agree. Our Lowes is hanging on by a thread, Menards has become more of a department store and customer service at both has left the premises. Good tips on laying down the rock. Love the drone shots. Yes, I buy the woven geo-tex at locations that sell to pros and I have bought it most recently online. You won't find this durable material at big box stores.

Big box stores very rarely match the service of a small,or family business.Employees are generally way more attentive and have more product knowledge in small business,they want you back,big box store employees don't really care as much.I've supported small town business my whole life,You support them,they support you as a contractor,thats how we roll.Support your local small business,it makes a better town!

Great advise on shopping where the pro's do. You will save so much money in the long run and I have developed relationships with the staff and always get 5 star treatment and contractor discounts.
I am also building a shop building, I needed a 3/4” tee for water line, the big box store wanted $78 for the tee without the stiffeners (compression fitting) which was another $10. I went to a plumbing supply and got the same tee for $56 with the stiffness.
One thing that gets me at the Lowes .... one by me has separate in and out doors. People jam up the parking at the in doors, always plenty available close to the out door. So.... when i go in, not carrying anything heavier than my cell phone.... I'd rather walk from the out door area, so when I come out carrying something heavy/awkward, or pushing a cart that has heavy/awkward stuff, it is not a long walk in the lot, I am right by the door.... those clowns are pushing carts full of tile and bags of mulch and 4x4s etc halfway across the lot.... you often buy big stuff, here, it isn't office supplies, a toner cartridge and a box of Postits...

I'm always the outlier when it comes to perfect temperature. I like about 55 and sunny and if I'm doing hard work, then I want some wind and another 5 degrees cooler. If its sunny and 70 outside with no wind ill start sweating. Thats how I know its to warm for me.

*Hi Mike. Here in Sweden they grade stone by the size. I needed about 16 tons to resurface the logging road into my mountain place. I chose zero 17. Zero being fines and 17 being the crushed stone size in millimeters. It packs real nice and my daughters and the Mrs. like the smooth ride.*😄
I worked 20 years at Sunray Electric in McKeesport ( outside Pittsburgh ). People were amazed to find we were less expensive, faster and a lot more knowedgeable than a big box store. BUT at the same time we didn't always have the mass quantities of some items. The big guys stock for thousands of customers while we stocked for the repeat contractor. Thanks and take care

I have had the same realization with the smaller independent lumber yards, better service, often better quality material, and prices are very competitive.

All our gravel here in South Carolina is blue granite.
Look for suppliers out where you work, pick up there and bring home. I always shop local Small Business's first! Ace Hardware loves me!

*Hi Mike. Here in Sweden they grade stone by the size. I needed about 16 tons to resurface the logging road into my mountain place. I chose zero 17. Zero being fines and 17 being the crushed stone size in millimeters. It packs real nice and my daughters and the Mrs. like the smooth ride.*😄
I worked 20 years at Sunray Electric in McKeesport ( outside Pittsburgh ). People were amazed to find we were less expensive, faster and a lot more knowedgeable than a big box store. BUT at the same time we didn't always have the mass quantities of some items. The big guys stock for thousands of customers while we stocked for the repeat contractor. Thanks and take care

Hi Mike I agree, it's a joke going to the big box stores. If you need some kinda help good luck finding someone especially someone who knows what is going on. There good for some things but it's getting harder to go there. Thanks for sharing

I have had the same realization with the smaller independent lumber yards, better service, often better quality material, and prices are very competitive.

Rifle season now in northeastern ontario,deer are a little harder to find,deep cold winters a couple years and wolves.Probably 60 degress now,very rare up here.
