    I’m so glad to see a fellow ironstone collector who also shares my passion for them! I’ve collected antique ironstone for 25 years and I’m still in love with them to this day. I have my eyes on a cake stand and a foot bath nowadays. They’re the holy grail for all serious antique ironstone collectors, Rajiv! So keep your eyes open for them!

    This brought back memories of my grandmothers love of ironstone. She didn’t have much of it but they were her treasures. I have seen people take 40 volume hydrogen peroxide and submerge the ceramic in an enamel broiler and heat in the oven to remove stains more quickly than a cold soak. Bleach can leach in under the glaze and cause flaking to the surface and should be avoided. This was fun to watch-thanks Rajiv!

    • @eva7673
      @eva7673 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      I know someone who buys hydrogen peroxide paste /cream (in Amazon) and applies it to ironstone and leaves it overnight to whiten it. (Also very good for whitening pieces of plastic that are yellowish because of time/sun damage)

    When I saw the topic was ironstone, I stopped right in the middle of my Amazon order 😅 I adore ironstone, especially when it's hotelware or restaurantware. I'd like to get some more "white" pieces, but I LOVE the crazing and some discoloration lol. I love it when you can see the age and the use. I find these speak to me the most. My absolute favorite piece is a square bowl, fluted on the outside, with a slight pedestal. And I got it for $4 at a thrift store. I could write poetry for that bowl!! ❤️

    I have three Ironstone plates that I absolutely love and use to eat on regularly. One has bad crazing, the other two are nearly perfect. I had no idea that they were Ironstone until I saw this video and noticed the marks underneath. I casually collect antique or handmade dishes, but from thrift stores usually. My plates were 99 cents for all three. Rajiv's collection is so beautiful.

    This reminds me of how paste stones were used in jewelry in the 17/1800s, the cuts and designs were just as beautiful as cut gemstones, yet made to be affordable and very durable. I didn’t know much about ironstone, it’s so beautiful - thanks for sharing!

    I am not sure if I am corect but I always thought the eradesant shine to older English Ironstone was that it was fired in coal ..Lets ask someone in the 5 towns of SToke on Trent :) I am sure they were fired in bungs (towers) of saggers .Saggers are protective containers that stack in the kilns or a kind of "KIln Furnature ... In the design work they started on paper but then the pot was sculpted and the mastery was in that work ..Then molds were made of the sculpted pot and the shape could be mass produced leaving a small team with mastery and a larger group with good skill finishing the making of the pots .. On the glazing and firing side the skill level still took a lifetime to keep the production ahead of the surprises altering materials and changing conditions always bring to a pottery kiln ... A visit to the SToke museum may be in order ...

      @rajivsurendra  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Thanks, Master Wolff! I knew you'd have some idea of how these were fired. This is the color that I'd like to mimic in the bowls I'm making in Rhode Island.

    Definitely concur on the recommendation to collect with a friend if you happen to love the same thing... it deepens the everyday joy. And same for seeing things in a museum, which really ups the inspiration quotient. My best friend and I have been collecting Russell Wright Iroquois china for over 15 years, and I use it every day. Each time I reach for a plate or bowl, I am happier than the moment before. Thanks for sharing all your inspirations, Rajiv!

    the pitcher is just the quintessential shape of a pitcher! i love it so much. a long time ago now, when i was living in and repairing the house i grew up in.. without hardly any money unfortunately, i was collecting small items just to get by for everyday use, a mug, a plate. didn't have much to spend was scrounging for every little thing, i found a small ironstone plate in a local antique store. there was something lovely about it, the color, the simplicity. it was stamped ironstone on the reverse and was just a couple of dollars, so i took it home. sadly don't have it any more though i wish i did, but this video reminded me of home for just a little while.

    I love ironstone. Actually, I am obsessed with dishes. I have six sets, all but one are incomplete so I have variety almost everyday. My husband and I prefer our white china best. It's like the little black dress of dishes. It never gets boring. You can easily give it a new look with different flatware (I also have multiple patterns) and/or different cloth napkins and placemats. I have a corner cabinet that is filled with white china accessories (not just ironstone, but Juliska signature pieces).

      @@kellymcdaniel6272 Yes, my first marriage did not last either but the dishes are still lovely...I had the brown set...my Thanksgiving Table was really beautiful with that huge Turkey Platter...at that time the platter alone was $85.00 in 1980. I have all the serving pieces and enough for 24 people...like a double set...thanks for sharing...my husband DID NOT appreciate such things as I did and still do...he was a degenerate...

    Look at that lovely orchid display back behind you… ☺️ ~I watched you do that ~ 💕💜💕 Beautiful music in this video!! And, of course, you’ve sparked a new interest in iron stone, noticing artful design, pulling back out some of Mamaw’s kitchen items gifted to me. 🥰
