Five years back, my older sister Jackie ran away with her deadbeat college dropout boyfriend, Scott. She was 20 at the time and he was 21 and they’d been together for five years by then. The two of them had been inseparable since school, and my family had never approved of him because he had always been up to no good. He was not particularly good at academics and was constantly getting in trouble at school, and in high school, he started smoking and drinking and doing everything that one should not do.

@@Chickenfriedpenguin Like I said, she's supporting herself with a new job. But let's go further cupcake. I don't know if you need the constant "mommy please love" self-assurance but for me, I'd be fine with supporting so long as she keeps her mouth shut about the other sister and remembers not to bite the hand that feeds her. See if there is one thing I can't stand aside from solipsistic selfishness it stupidity and a lack of pragmatism or practicality.
I am absolutely the guy who would marry and obvious gold digger and trophy wife who is only with me for my money so long as she remembers the job requirements: Stay pretty, keep me serviced, and don't cross me or step out of line. Because I would get a prenup and make it clear if she wants the lavish life and goodies, she has to earn them.
I have no problems with a business arrangement or quid pro quo so long as people stick to the agreement.

@@juliairwin-gh2bl Sunk cost fallacy is where you have put money into something bad and instead of quitting, you pour more money in thinking you can turn it around. A little like in for a penny, in for a pound except you should have stopped investing.

NTA OP. Your mother doesn't want you, she just wants your money, as money is power. She could have got a job herself five years ago and had her own money, but she chose not to. So you are the expected ATM. That child did not appear by magic with your errant sister so it would be difficult to make a case that she was innocent of a serious crime, which is what your mother wants you to pay to have established. Save your money. Your mother will remortgage the house to pay for a lawyer to fight a losing battle. You get your own house and mortgage and tend to your own future and living arrangements rather than be at the mercy of your mother and her follies and preferences.
