I was actually lucky enough to get my hands on a VHS with the uncensored English version of Holiday Hy-Jynx as a kid. I have to wonder, if I dug that out from the void of wherever it got off to, would it be worth a lot today... 🤔

I never understood why they use censorship about other cultures. I would think anime would be a great way to teach kids other kinds of cultures and to try new things. Preferably with the new foods in Japan like Rice Balls or Takoyaki.
I don’t get it. It’s not like food is offensive. This could have been a good opportunity to teach young children more about the wider world, but they felt the need to hide it as if American children and their parents simply could not fathom another culture existing outside their own.
Anime censorship is really stupid. Some of this stuff have been in regular cartoons for years. This might be out there, but I’m calling it discrimination.
The issue is that 4Kids was initially creating English language dubs for local television. The FCC had so many restrictions and sometimes it killed any potential for the dubs. TPCi was not as bad as they were up until XY then they began to get censor heavy.
Discrimination on who? What's wrong with just calling it "censorship", that's the most accurate description. There's no need to seek a stronger label for it.
Honestly, Jinks looks a bit better in purple anyway. Like, I love the design trope of characters with a face hidden in shadow so much that we mostly see darkness (like Vivi from ff9), but I think for Jinks it just makes more sense to give her more coloration than just all black.
It would be different if her lips were were not visible and her hair was not blonde. But with those 2 things AND a “black face”, it was almost impossible for black folks to not see Jinx as a caricature of Black women.
The episode electric soldier Porygon was banned because of a scene which caused mass seizures resulting in the episodes ban which also resulted in episodes getting edited to avoid causing more seizures
@@RuV9999 also the episode the legend of Dratini was banned due to it's portrayal of handguns. Other episodes which had guns weren't banned for some reason.

Honestly, The censored moments are one of the many things that played a part in making Pokemon the iconic series that it is. Because as we all know there's not a single cartoon in history that hasn't had it's share of innuendoes, dirty jokes, racial stereotypes, And dark moments.

The cow-like Pokémon uses a combination of glowy hands and its naturally produced milk to heal others. However, American censors took issue with its udders. In the original Japanese version, Meowth and Cyndaquil are clearly shown drinking the milk directly from Miltank, which was completely cut from the English dub. If you look very, very, closely you can still see the moment where Cyndaquil detaches from an udder, but that’s about as close westerns audiences got. People have been to farms, you know! #1: Inflatable Accessories “Beauty and The Beach” There are plenty of examples of James assuming disguises throughout the anime. But the outfit he wore in this highly controversial episode sent the censors into overdrive. To infiltrate a beauty contest, James puts on a bikini, attaches inflatable breasts to himself and pumps them up to astounding size, where he then proceeds to make fun of Misty for being on the left side. The outrage caused by this led to the episode being banned for years! Even after being heavily edited, it was barely shown on western television and isn’t available on several streaming services. James' controversial accessories will ensure that this episode will live forever in infamy.
Just remember, it's actually O.L.M. that made the art changes, because video-chopping wasn't a thing back then. Plus, it's possible that Japan gave some differences between the TV airings and DVD releases, with the localized/foreignized option released in the dub.

The censorship in the US is literally BORING and ANNOYING. All uncut anime materials are obviously meant for millions of adolescents, adults and middle aged people alike.
I agree, for example like Yugioh anime. Some censored moment can’t be help like the Pokémon anime, sometime they have to do it because the Japanese went too far for a franchise media for younger.
Man I am so confused I remember watching pokemon when I was a little kid but I didn't know things in anime were censored and I didn't even know banned episodes even existed
Ah yes, imagine getting "burned" from holding a match (definitely barely does anything). Holding a candle which melts and then burns your hands is definitely more safe!
In the Sun And Moon episode Mission: Total Recall, there is a scene where Lusamine picks up a jar with pills in it. Why was that not changed in the dub?
One thing that was censored, but the footage was still kept, is from the original Japanese opening tune. In that song, Ash is singing how he searches for Pokémon in rivers, mountains, forests and underneath girls' skirts. At which you hear the said girl screaming. Of course, when the dubbed version got a new song, that part of the lyrics had to go. BUT, that part where Pikachu darts between a girl's legs, and she quickly pulls her skirt down, to protect her dignity, was still there in the animation.
Agreed with the "younger" Ash designs. He should be looking OLDER, guys! Next time we see him (IF we see him, since I know he's finally retiring), he'd better have at least some grey hair or something. He can't still be 10 anymore. Never should have, tbh.
What really irks me, is that 4 of these moments on the list were set around and after the Passimian episode in Sun and Moon and proves that TPCi could have easily Re-painted Ash’s face just like how they painted over the shurikens, the train attendants mouth, and the wine glasses. I get blackface is a serious issue, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to not even attempt at a Re-edit proves that it can be done
Same. Tbh, kid me didn't notice anything with media back in the day. But after seeing the clip in this vid, I did hear a loud woosh noise (not like you Redditers out there are thinking! I don't understand you guys anyway) like she had swung her arm, but no slap, before she spoke.

14:53 Even though the censored the grunts, they still left James’ and Meowth’s arms up and looking like a salute. This is especially problematic when you consider that Meowth’s then VA, Maddie Blaustien, was a transwoman AND Jewish.

I can only think of 4 or 5 episodes. The episode when Todd Snap shows up to get a picture of Pikachu. While hiding in the grass, his camera causes a glare that only Ash notices and it shows him thinking it's a scope on a rifle and he imagines all of them getting shot. There was the episode where Ash tries to see if he and Pikachu has what it takes to go through similar training that Officer Jenny and her Growlithe does. The episode starts off with Ash and friends coming across a guy dressed as a burglar to help train the Growlite but they mistake him for a real crook. Ash tries to get Pikachu to stop him but Pikachu wouldn't because he seen the guy had a gun in his hand. Later on, Brock even chastises Ash about it saying he shouldn't have expected Pikachu to go after someone with a gun like that. There was the controversial episode of the giant Tentacruel attacking the sea side city. Aside from all the city destruction causing censoring issues due to the episode airing in the states not long after the 9/11 attacks, there was also a crazy old lady who had a tank and was using guns to try and stop the large Tentacruel. I want to say in the episode of the Khangaskhan Kid, there was a scene where Officer Jenny points a rifle at Ash because they thought they were in the Safari Zone but actually in a Pokémon Preserve and she thought he was a poacher. The only other episode I can really recall was the one involving the really grumpy game warden who had a revolver that he pointed directly at Ash's face at one scene. He even took a shot at Team Rocket later on and I want to say there was even a scene where Team Rocket took him hostage and held him at gun point with his own gun. The episode was banned completely though for some reason, I can recall there being a version that was heavily edited and instead of holding the warden at gun point, Jessie threatened to use a tickling robot on him to get him to tell them what they wanted. But there has been soo much going around with this episode. Some sources say this episode was never released to the states due to all the guns in it but I can remember seeing the episode once or twice when I was a kid, both the original and the edited version because I can recall the reason why the warden was soo protective of the area was because it held a lake with a Dragonair in it that saved his life or something and he wanted to protect it from poachers.
The recent pokemon series is so slow comparing to the previous series... I miss the old pokemon who are strong and so nostalgic. Even pikachu seems so odd at the current series
1:17: they censor death in this episode but they don't censor Goh literally grabbing his Scorbunny's crotch hmm, seems legit. He's literally struggling in his trainer's grip too. Without the audio from the episode one might think Goh is fondling his Pokémon and the poor thing doesn't like it. This hits even harder when you consider that Scorbunny loved his Trainer before he was fondled against his will. 3:11: They're called Onigiri balls you uncultured swine. Seriously people calling my favorite Japanese snack rice balls always triggered me more than 4Kids calling them jelly doughnuts. At the very least you can forgive American audiences for not knowing what an Onigiri treat is. I will not however forgive people calling them rice balls. Even if that’s technically what they are. They have a proper name so use it. 7:05: I always felt Jynx’s design should’ve been left alone. All they accomplished by changing her skin to purple was acknowledge the racism comments people made. By ignoring them people could screamed about it until they were blue in the face but it wouldn’t matter because there is no racism. Just an unfortunate coincidence. 11:06: Why couldn’t they color Jessie’s midriff black in Indonesia? It would give the illusion that she was wearing a longer undershirt. It makes alot more sense than using the blur censor. Especially when they didn’t consider her back worthy of censorship. 13:25: Again they censor death when in gen 1 Ash was literally killed on screen along with Pikachu and turned into ghosts by Haunter in Tower of Terror and to my knowledge this episode was never once censored. 16:28: Again acknowledging the racist undertones only make things worse. Are you saying that my childhood nanny was a slave because she was African American and liked to wear a polkadot apron all the time even when she went shopping for groceries? Her reason for wearing a bandanna while cooking was a hygienic one. The Health Department requires all people that handle food in a restaurant setting to wear hair coverings. My nanny had another job working at a small burger restaurant. 19:20: So we’re censoring Mother Nature now? Mammalian creatures suckle milk from their mothers. AND YES THAT INCLUDES US HUMANS!!! 19:57: I stand by my decision to support Transgender Rights. What is between your legs is not an indication of your gender. I’m happy that today it’s a lot less taboo to feature the lgbt community in media.

Just like Sailor Neptune and Sailor Uranus were cousins
Meanwhile in American public schools: “you might not be a boy, you might actually be a girl”.
In the entire uncut ‘Pokemon’ anime, the fictional tween named Misty was being both short-tempered and unapologetic.
I’m sorry, but it’s the truth.
She wasn't really even a tomboy. In fact none of the anime main females came close. She wore dresses, makeup, loved clothes shopping, and loved dolls.

You’re right.

Oh, my bad. That was awkward.
I remember when Shuckle and Pikachu licked Jessie’s belly button, and it gave her a chill each time. Also Crogunk always stabs Brock in the bottom.
Screams in Jelly-filled donuts!
13:24 pause and you'll see just how messed up meowth is...damn
What are you talking about
What if cbbc censored Frankie speech in episode XY
Such as the JELLY FILLED RICE BALL!
Why is it always the US getting screwed over when it comes to foreign shows?
Then y didnt they censor tommy's father's mustach😶😶
They did censorship him getting slaped though and his mustache edges are rounded then Hitlers mustache
I also don't understand that, but I was a child and didn't even know who Hitler was, so I guess they didn't think kids would know either.
Yea people nowadays
Top Ten Hardest To Watch Pokémon Moments
Not a bad idea.
The whole akward faces in SM
They should turn sandwich censorship into jam doughnut
What next? "Top 10 Most Censored MegaMan NT Warrior Moments?"
Professor Kukui gotta get that vitamin C.
number 16. didnt ash litterally get attacked by a flock angry Spearows in episdoe 1?
Scooby Doo Vs The Flintstones Who's Hanna Barbera's most pivotal cartoon series
The recent pokemon series is so slow comparing to the previous series... I miss the old pokemon who are strong and so nostalgic. Even pikachu seems so odd at the current series
Quit saying udders please. A cow only has ONE udder. It's 1 udder with 4 teats. sheesh
Many of these were 4Kids being silly.
How about top 20 most censored one piece moments.
There are about tons of censorship in one piece.
Nearly everytime James Crossdressed as a Woman. Guess Censors thought he pulled that off a little too well.
What do you mean
