No one can denies that Yan Wushi is a crazy bastard and a villain i still can't understand myself why I LOVE HIM. He is a grey character DARK GREY on the top of that but he is so complex and also the funniest person i cant really help but find myself into him. I really relate with Shen Qiao XD
I love him because he is just the person to go against the villains of the story.
We like him, because when it comes to book characters, good or bad doesn’t matter so much as whether or not they’re fun to read about/interact with. To quote Oscar Wilde, “People are either charming or tedious.”

I have been waiting for this. This novel is definitely in my top 3. Yan Wushi is just gremlin but that's alright 😂 feel like they have a great character development in this book so it's really where story gets interesting. Can't wait for next one. Cover is just sooo pretty ❤❤❤
I think SC has always had a soft spot for YW as he is the only one who SC always gives a second chance to unlike say Chen Gong. Also consider how SC reacts when Bai Rong just flirts with him yet, his reaction to YW kisses him over and over again is wildly different. He does like YW he just has no understanding of what he feels. Also the logic that he keeps saving YW for the sake of the people and his support of the emperor is obvious BS. It’s the excuse SC uses as he doesn’t really understand why he wants to save him - he doesn’t understand his feelings. I think YW only started realizing his feelings in the cave right after Xie Ling was suppressed - he even says he feels something in his heart and after that it’s nothing but YW adoring SC. In one of the later books - or at least in the translation he pretty much said that he initially thought that after he fixes his demonic core, his feelings for SC would diseappear, but then he realizes they dont and he quickly realizes that SC is THE most special person in the world for him and he basically loves him blindly from then on.
Also when in the cave when YW is talking to him before leaving to save SC, he is saying goodbye in case he may not make it. He is basically saying Im doing this for you but what he says is Im not doing this out of guilt….but its literally what he is doing because he doe have feelings for SC he is just not sappy enough (yet) to say it plainly. Also the line about the face SC makes, is basically YW saying SC is too beautiful when he is crying for YW and should not make such a tender face for others. I love that part as YW’s feelings are so much clearer now and so is SC’s. He is not crying because he can’t properly finish saving YW, he is crying FOR the potential that YW might die and he might not see him again. I swear half the series is SC being said about potential for YW dying but being totally clueless as to why that makes him so sad lol.
While I agree with everything else here, I don’t think SQ motivation for saving him is BS. The point of SQ’s character is that he rarely takes things personally. He didn’t reveal YA’s betrayal because it would cause internal strife with his sect, he only reveals it when he realizes YA’s going too far and he needs a reality check. He doesn’t hate what YW did to him and uses it as a teaching moment. He doesn’t even hate Chen Gong.
Yes, I believe he’s developing a soft spot for YW, but he did initially save him for altruistic reasons. That’s what shocks everyone else. They can’t understand someone being objective about the situation, because they’re all in for personal reasons and he isn’t.

Also LOVE how YW is always 20 steps ahead of everyone. The ending or at least the extra when he finally gets SC to come to him and admit his feelings, is such a masterpiece of subterfuge and wild scheming and planning haha and SC finally admits what had been feeling for like 4 books lol.
Oh lol and especially in the this and the next books LOVE YW’s humor even more. LOL like when he used San he Tongbei to clean feathers then the fish lol or when he makes fish head soup to be served for Li Qingyu (his name means fish head) and SC realizes and is laughing on the inside wondering if YW did it LOL. Im sorry I love that man (YW) so much and their complex and hard won relationship is so satisfying to me.

Honestly, it does add to my enjoyment when random animals live in a franchise. I was very displeased by the horse deaths in The Last of Us.
I hope one day you’ll watch Thousand Autumn’s donghua. Their quality is insane. Like svsss dong hua quality is good too, but my opinion this is just amazing. You can even see Shen qiao’s pore. One of my favorites for sure.

And tbf novel Yan Wushi is so much worse than AD and donghua Yan Wushi
I strongly believe that the reason for all the political intrigues and lack of romantic plot in the first half of the story is to make the reader forget about the genre of the novel: like “don’t worry, that bitch Yan Wushi is an antagonist, Shen Qiao is better than that, he will not fall for him” then BOOM they are married, YW is in fact the main lead and SQ likes him (absurd,horrible, why) but now it’s too late, you now want to finish what you started. YOU HAVE BEEN BETRAYED

when I got the book I started with looking at all the pictures cause I like guessing what is going to happen based on them. When I got to yan wushi in a dress I immediately went "wait... is that yan wushi? No... it could be a random woman they just met... Is it yan wushi? why would yan wushi be in a dress???" xD I have no clue how I figured out it was him on first sight.

On pages 118 and 119, A-Yan is in control and says this to Shen Qiao; “A face is just the surface, a shell. Why put so much stock in appearances? I know everything he did to you. Yan Wushi might be a fickle ingrate, but I’d never turn my back on you. A-Qiao, it’s impossible to find a second person as kind as you in this world. He might not cherish you, but I will. Won’t you let me?”
Shen Qiao did not take him seriously, which is fair since yknow, *it’s Yan Wushi*. But there’s just so much genuineness to the line and it made me cry. The fact someone voiced their admiration for him so intensely made me happy, but in turn it was devastating because Shen Qiao didn’t even believe he meant it.
By the way you ABOSLUTELY should react to the Thousand Autumns donghua after this!

BTW there is a sequel to Thousand Autumns called "Pearless", which is awesome to read and is more centred around the political stuff. I personally love the main characters!!!, they are my all-time fav and super hilarious to read. So after completing Thousand Autumns if you wanna read to some super smart and powerful but also super dumb clowns accidentally falling in love with each other which leads to hilarious circumstances and probably some of the most unique ship dynamics in danmei I definitely recommend reading "Pearless"

Love Stiches insights. This is such a complicated, but enticing and amazing novel.
the only thing I wish the author did was give more details so we know why yan wu shi is the way he is. as a lover of history, it's easy for me to fill in the blanks but for others it's hard to do so.
I agree with Stitch, I love both Thousand Autumns and Remnants of Filth ❤; My personal belief is that Yen Wushi's character would be more like Xie Ling ....if the shi**y things did not happen to him in his childhood... and had to burry this side of him deep; perhaps Shen Qiao and Yen Wushi are 2 different outcomes of the same type of events....betrayal, loss that gave birth to 2 different personas: one good and one evil ...although...Yen Wushi is not entirely black. Love them both.
The funny thing is we actually dont know much about Yan Wushi's past. Like the book doesnt try to make him seem like ''poor guy'' '' aww that is sad '' or somehow makes us sympathize to him. We can imagine a lot of stuff happened but actually really dont know anything about his past. Bcz someones past yeah can and will affect their choices but in the end it is their willpower and nothing can change that. AND Still i love Yan Wushi despite he is a bastard and actually doesnt change his view that much but still expands his zones for Shen Qiao. ( I hope I could explain myself. English is not my native language )
@@sukrannurtek796 SPOILER AHEAD: I cannot find the exact paragraph.. it may be in the past or future books ...but I will keep searching..but it depicts his family being murdered in front of Wushi's eyes; this king of trauma affects greatly a kid's personality and later his adulthood life; by contrast, although an orphan, Shen was adopted by his master and had a pretty happy childhood with his sect brothers and sisters; I believe it's when Wushi had lost his innocence and faith in humans;
I really love Stitch's danmei reviews! This was so much fun! Definitely gonna give Thousand Autumns a try after I finish Qiang Jin Jiu.

Actually you want Yan Washi as the head and alive. Shen Qiao knows that if Yan Washi wasn;t around anymore the others leaders would bring chaos to the world. Yan Washi actually puts them all in place since he is the strongest and most feared. Also, Yan Washi doesn't believe anyone can be pure and all people eventually betray others (cough, cough) but starts learning that Shen is the most honest person there is and that is why he falls in love with him. They actually do make a good team and Yan learns a lot from Shen. Watch the Donghua. It is excellent.
PS: Yan never expected Shen to save his life. He does have a lot of pride. I am a Yan Washi fan, lol.

Great video! ❤ Btw Yan Wushi never show any interest in women and one of his favorite way to "annoy" Shen Qiao is... kissing him. So... I just think he is gay and admits it! His behavior is really strange and rude, but we can feel his appeal from the very beginning.
And about Shen Qiao, my theory is that he is already impressed by the first fight he saw of Yan Wushi (don't remember the name of his opponent, but Bai Rong was there to watch with Shen Qiao). During this fight, I could sense that Shen Qiao was deeply impressed to see how strong is Yan Wushi. Shen Qiao is a martial artist too, so naturally he would be interested in that "strong" aspect of a martial artist. Of course that's not love yet, but I see their relationship being more complex than others because they deeply understand what it is to be a martial artist. I don't see Shen Qiao as completely innocent in his feelings either on that subject.
I hope that what I am saying makes sense... 😂 but I love to read between the lines in this novel! And when I was reading books 1 and 2 again, I could actually see more details about what was building their relationship. Yes, betrayal is one thing. But Shen Qiao is actually strong, and Yan Wushi gave him a SWORD when he abandoned him. I don't think he wanted him dead. He was weirdly experimenting (and he is a bad guy) but he was already feeling something about SQ (and not accepting it though). Anyway... We love them ❤ They really suit each other!
Yan Wushi’s sexuality is maybe bisexual, but maybe not. He’s also supposedly a mass murderer, even though Shen Qiao has the most kills. YW really keeps us guessing. Did he even kill anyone?
Shen Qiao talks about the people he loves the most. I noticed it’s his master in the beginning, then Yan Wushi.

one of the reasons I gave a high rank to "thousand autumns" was due to how much of the mechanics of cultivation was explained to the readers. most books within the same genre are superficial in that aspect.
Gonna continue watching this after I've finished volume 3 but the start of this vid was such an amazing recap!!!!!! A lot of the political stuff goes over my head sometimes so this was rlly helpful!:D
