Designing SkeeRide - from Dream to Reality

- Here I tell the story of how SkeeRide came to be. I tried to keep it as short as possible and still had to leave out a lot of the finer details but it covers all of the main points. I hope you enjoy.

The SkeeRide is a fully 3D printable RC snowmobile.
This was designed from the very beginning with easy assembly and minimal purchased parts as the goal. I think I have accomplished that goal. Everything is printed except for: Electronics, screws, bearings, and shocks. It can be printed on a print bed 200mm x 200 mm or larger. Most items do not need any supports but there are a few that will need some.

Many of the parts of my design are inspired from other snowmobile projects that I have seen. I have reached out to those that some of my work might resemble. If you feel something looks similar to your work and you did not receive a message from me please reach out to me. Nothing in my design is a modified version of others work, All of it was hand made by me, but some may still resemble that of images I used for reference.
Disclaimer: Due to printer abilities being different and always changing, and the nature of an off road vehicle there is a good chance you will break parts. Luckily they should be easy to reprint and fix rather quickly. I will do my best to provide support through discord and if files are found in need up improvement I will do my best to improve and then include for free for those who have purchased the snowmobile. I give no guarantee that it will print perfect on your machine or that things will not break when you send the sled flying off a cliff. - วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยี

Dude the fact that you’re so open to sharing your work for others to buy…. Trust me when I say words can’t describe how much I respect you for that. As do many others I’m sure. You are allowing the possibility of a dream come true for so many of us who have always wanted a legit Rc snowmobile that looks so much like a real sled. Thank you thank you thank you!!! I’m loving your snowmobile! I have finished mine and my oldest brother being 34 loves it. He has ran real snowmobiles before and fell in love. Might have to make him one.

Such a sweet build! So sweet in fact yous inspired me to get into 3D printing myself! Almost done printing the Alpha from RC Creations! As soon as it is done I’m going to start on my first Skee Ride two skidoos and a polaris to match my family’s ride collection! Thanks again for sharing these all will everyone! I've been here since the beginning. I'm so happy you decided to make this project available to us. I'm building skeeride 2 right now. There's another guy out there I wish would release his file for people. I never understood people that build something and don't want to allow others to enjoy it. I mean even if they were paid files. But oh well, u did and that's what matters. BTW I love to new design and all the updates. I'm in the discord as well.

I absolutely love my skeeride and have built two and plan to continue building more!!
After building up the toy version and using pascal’s upgrade files I still found myself frustrated with parts braking.
But with your full 3d sled I can feel confident on running it hard and it works very well.
Please keep up the great work and would be really cool if you could do more models of different body’s for the skeeride.

I wanted an rc snowmobile for a long time. Pascal did not sell at that moment. Wanted to try to buy a toy ski to add the upgrade Pascal did sell for that. Living in the Netherlands made it hard to get one for a normal price since those models sell in the USA or Canada. Then decided to design my own. Started to look for pictures of a nice extreme yamaha ski. Started my design and after some hours realized that this was not my best idea. I have so many hobbys and projects that this would not be finished within 10 years. And then found yours. At first was not a big fan. The choice of color you showed in the video and the low poly was not too appealing at first. but then saw one in other colors and decided I liked it enough to go for it. I think is is a very nice ski. Only thing I questioned the moment it came off the printer were the printed steering rods. The ski would be finished just before we would go for our wintersport holiday. to be able to repair some stuff I printed some extra rods and track links etc.
Did one drive test on the carpet and after a burst of power the ski's came up and after landing one rod was broken already. So decided I needed a different setup for steering since this would not hold up. Made a quick redesign to add to a standard aluminum arm for a 25 kilo servo from China. It bolts with 2 bolts to the arm and widens the arm to acommodate two ball joints. Use two long m3 threaded rods and ball joints on the ski knuckles too. The m3 is maybe a bit too weak. Time will tell. But the new mount on the servo arm is bullet proof. Would like to share this. How can I do that? Or can I email this file to you with some pictures. First drive test today in the snow was very good. lotst of power and good steering

printing my track today..great vid, great model, I appreciate the service you designers provide. I much prefer pay for these services, rather the trying to get the stuff for free, usually issues I can t fix.

@@BuildItBetter3D the only problem i have is with the tie Rod breaking .i done it at 6 wall and 100 infill
There is a mod of a thicker one or rack mod that used turnbuckles. It’s kinda funny, I didn’t have any break for a long time, then I put in a stronger servo and have now broken a few. I’m working on a mod to change the a-arms and steering setup that should fix the issue. Hopefully I’ll have it done soon.

Fun to see this process. I have to say that i have not seen any messeges tho, where did you send them? But yes, the files were only up for a couple of months on ThV. Got called down and started work with a company so i hade to remove the files that i had. More then that i can not say :)

Great sled I am in the process of making one now. Ony have a Prusa mini so a couple parts need to be farmed out.

What are the electronic parts you use. Like is there certain ones that fit better than others.
Any 540 size motor will fit. Around 2200kv seems to be the most liked for speed and torque. If you join the discord channel you’ll be able to see everyone’s builds and get opinions on what’s best to use. Link in description.
Hi. I'm thinking about buying the files and printing it but I was wondering how much would it cost to get all of the electronics and screws and stuff. Because its easy to print it. Thanks
That depends. If you want to go as cheap as possible you’re probably under $200. If you want to get top of the line electronics than you could be $1000 pretty easy. Of course if you already have some rc stuff than the price will be cheaper.
Well if I go the cheapest can I still get the brushless motor?

Just curious, how where you able to take an actual snowmobile picture and make it 3D? I'm trying to take an actual snowmobile picture and make it A 3D object on blender, and I can't figure it out. If it's something simple, could you please head me in the right direction to do so.
Sorry, but it is not simple. Took hundreds of hours. I used basically the same process for the snowmobile as I show in my airplane videos. You can see some of it here: th-cam.com/video/YWOPZARske8/w-d-xo.html I show my entire process in these videos. Some of this is not relevant for 3d printing, such as animation and texturing, but the modeling side of it is the same.

man ive been wanting to build one of these forever.... the only sled i ever saw online was called the art attack back in the day, if anyone is that old in this game... so i feel you on this dream.... is there a reputable source to buy this as a kit or roller form? i do not have the abilitiy to print this myself. When you were design the body panels what website were you on?
I just googled a bunch of pictures and then used pictures from the manufacturer websites.

Oh, ok. That is Blender, a 3D modeling program. That is the program that I used to design all of my parts. www.blender.org

The Ender 3 is probably the best in your price range. It’s a popular printer with a lot of support. They’re pretty reliable too. amzn.to/3Hz1JFN if you can afford a little more then get the V2 amzn.to/3sYKt8E, but the original one is still really good.

I do not, but there’s a ton of authorized sellers that will build one for you. You can find them in the discord group.
