  • Complete build guide for building a 3D Printed Skeeride RC Snowmobile by designer Build It Better. Includes all steps of the build process from building the skid and the frame to adding the track and body panels. Even includes installation and soldering of all electronics. In this build we make a few modifications including a track printed from TPU, we use the newer "Polar" or Polaris-like body panels and some HD (heavy duty) steering knuckles to take a little extra bashing.
    If you're looking for a Skeeride build kit with fasteners, bearings, servos and more for this RC Sled you can find it here: rcprinter.com/products/skeeri...
    You can find the build files for the snowmobile here: www.myminifactory.com/object/...
    You can find the build files for the newer "Polar" aka Polaris body panels here: www.myminifactory.com/object/...
    If you are interested in building a sled with a PLA track instead of the TPU track here is how you put it together: • SkeeRide Assembly Part...
    If you are installing the original panels instead of the Polar panels here is how those are installed: • SkeeRide Assembly Part...

    At 19:25 I referenced using a motor shim which I eventually designed and printed. If you're looking for one you can download it here: www.tinkercad.com/things/luFOm7WP1em I recommend ABS or PETG for better heat resistance than PLA.

    I ordered my first printer a few days ago, an Ender 3 v2. I can’t wait for it to arrive. Eventually I plan on making one of these because my dad and I both enjoy snowmobiling and rc vehicles. Thanks so much for making these videos!

There's holes for it but after watching your video I noticed it wasn't connected ? I believe it's called " skid spacer front " . Did you guys just miss it or is it not being used ?

    Using the motor and esc and servo combination that your using can it weelie and does it have a lot of power?

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes it has lots and lots of power, especially on a 3s LIPO. I can change the speed by changing the pinion I put in it. A larger pinion makes it go faster and wheelie more easily but the motor gets hotter and its less controllable at low speeds. A smaller pinion makes it more controllable and responsive at low speeds and keeps the heat down. I think I'm running a 13-ish tooth pinion at the moment but I could put on a much larger pinion if I wanted more speed but its plenty to handle already. If you want an even faster 540 motor you could try something with less than the 13.5 turns in it but I wouldn't recommend that because I think it would get too hot.

      Hey man its been a minute since I printed one but it definitely does need some support. I think I'd turn on supports everywhere, turn the support threshold down to 30% and then just put support blockers in places where it doesn't need it like the magnet lock hole and the screw holes. What you'd end up with is basically supports for the middle there where the magnet goes, for the bumper on the nose, and for the little underside section that's just off the build plate.

    • @rcprinter

      It depends on what you might already have. If you need to buy batteries and a radio because this is your first RC then it will be more. Our top kit is $157 and comes with motor, esc, fasteners, servo and bearings but you'll still need shocks ($30), pinion and spur gears ($30), lights ($10), filament ($60), and any tools or supplies you don't have like lube and solder and a 3D printer. Then if you don't have a radio that could be ($50-$100) and a battery ($50) and a charger ($50). You also need to buy the design files ($20 + polar $10). It can get pricey.

    Is it hard to 3d print a skeeride?

    • @rcprinter
      @rcprinter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, not hard, just time consuming. It takes a long time to print all the pieces especially if you only have 1 printer. Most of the pieces are designed to print without supports and the designer tells you which ones do need support. If you want a flexible TPU track then thats slightly more complicated but its not bad as long as you have a printer that can handle it. The build isn't too complicated either, you can just follow my videos or the ones from the designer from start to finish.

The designer recommends a few options in his build guide you can check out but I find its kind of a crap shoot when you buy cheap shocks. Here you go: lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AM-JKLVmYDTnlYuOfdA6qDbeKXhIMVXipgzIuBs99ikizOH349dhpO666wa7gJh_RxXQNGMSNLNSe-rPH8WJGDYVwnCCHsq9x13lZDnqVN51ou8O76OcnFadqdiucDluHxNPbRe7qE0CuvMaHnEF9ytFthViLg=w861-h705-no ... I'm still adding mods to the sled as I test out the more powerful motor and TPU track. I also printed a custom shim mount for my motor last night and I'm trying to upgrade the steering right now. :)

      @@rcprinter Wow, you are the man! Thank you! Any chance you have something like this for the original Skeeride? The mod list is a bit overwhelming.

      @@sokey70 I don't but the designer includes a .pdf file that lists out everything you need to print when you buy the design files.

      If you check the skeeride discord forum there's lots of people in there than can build you one. I'm a little swamped with projects right now to take on a commission build.

      We sell kits for you to build your own at www.rcprinter.com. If you want the Skeeride design files you can get them at myminifactory. If you want to buy a pre-built one you can probably find one for sale in one of the skeeride facebook or discord groups.

      I think you might be waiting a while!... its definitely worth the $20 IMHO and you'll be spending way more in RC parts anyways.

      If your worrying about $20, you shouldn't ever try to print one of these, as I worry you'll put cheap $5 parts in your sled and then complain that its the design's fault. I paid for my plans, printed 2 sleds, and have had hours of fun building, driving, fixing, and admiring the amount of time the designer put into making the skeeride. Don't be cheap, support the designer of this awesome project!
