Weird Al was the first live concert I ever went to, and he played this interview during one of his costume changes. One of his encores at the end was singing "We all have cellphones, so come on, let's get real." Everyone pulled out their cellphones and waved them like lighters, and it was magical.
My first concert was R.E.M. back when only rich people owned cells. This one went off in the front row between songs and he asked them to turn it off and the crowd roared in approval cause the rich kid got told. He probably sensed the indignation so he then added, "I turned MINE off, so..."
I saw Al on the Mandatory Fun tour, and he actually started the encore of the show by singing "We all have cellphones so come on let's get real." And a bunch of people in the crowd held up their phones and waved them back and forth like lighters. No word of a lie.
