I'd love to see you guys put Starlin's "Warlock" under the microscope. Those first stories were amazing and hold up beautifully.

Starlin's a hell of a talent. I'm reading early Dreadstar comics now and they're amazing.

Summer after 3rd grade, I'd take the bus down to the public library and check out as many Ghost Rider comics as they'd let me. It was the summer of Johnny Blaze, and I've been hooked on GR ever since.

The GCD says that the finishers are Leialoha, Mike Netzer and Station with Al Milgrom on the splash page.

Bob Budianski did the absolute best Ghost Rider. Especially like the last 15 issues of this era. They really ended at their peak. Ghost Rider was full horror and Zarathos was at his peak incarnation.

Danny Ketch was my Ghost Rider as a kid but I remember learning about Johnny Blaze from some reprints that came out in the early 90s. He was cool in the Midknight Sons.
Also, my friends and I named a local stoner Johnny Blaze back in the day. We thought we were so clever.

Leialoha is my favorite inker for Starlin. There's a couple pages that look like Alan Weiss may have inked too

I got a Stan G-Berg Archie page hanging right here above my workspace and I had no idea he was Marvel's go-to colorist. You guys really could write the encyclopedia on the history of comics.

This was my first comic! Almost, when I was 5 or 6 I had a Superboy I can barely remember. I got this when it came out and I was 8. I kept it forever until my mom purged my comics in the 80s. Lost my ASM annual #1 in the purge too.

The art credits for "and friends": Al Milgrom (finished pencils on framing sequence); Steve Leialoha (finished pencils everywhere else) and inks by Jim Starlin; Michael Netzer; Steve Leialoha.

I clocked the magnifying glass and searched up my favorite character. Here we are...
This video might be 2 years old but you asked "I'm curious who "and friends" is" as to who were the other inkers. In the letters page for issue 37 it's stated that it was Al Milgrom and someone else helped ink the book. I asked Al which pages he helped on and he wasn't even sure he had worked in it but though it might have been the opening splash page.
Thanks for not sh!tting on Ghost Rider. Would love to see you two review issue 29 from the 1990 series where Howard Mackie takes a little shot at the Image founders.

Incredible Hulk #222 was creepy as all get out! Starlin did some cool fill-ins. The problem with Ghost Rider is that most of the issues just were not as good as this one. When I talk about the original Ghost Rider series, this is the one that always comes up. Ghost Rider was plagued by tonal changes throughout the run. The first issues were mad, Satanic demon-fighting weirdness. Then they tried to change him into Daredevil, even throwing DD's C-list enemies at him. There is a brief spot where things got cool...Ghost Rider #29-32 were my favorite run. You get Doctor Strange doing an appearance followed by The Bounty Hunter story. The alien story in #'s 33-34 were ok. #35 here is classic. And then....They started aping the Incredible Hulk tv show by having him just go from town to town, befriend someone, and then change to save them and move on to the next town and issue. That formula is pretty much what ruined the book. By the time they came along at the end and started the Zarathos storyline, everyone had tuned out. But Ghost Rider #35 was a stand out! Art and story!

You should review Ghost Rider 68, "The Curse of Jonathon Blaze" from that series. It's a jump on issue in the series' waning days written by Stern and drawn by Budiansky. It's also reprinted in the first issue of "The Original Ghost Rider Rides Again", so maybe you could compare the two to see if there are any color changes or the like.

Since Jim's Starlin is doing this book, this is the same Death Thanos was trying to impress. All along, little T should have become a space biker instead of the whole nihilism thing.

Reading the Ghost Rider Essentials volumes is like sitting in a corner hitting yourself in the head with a hammer- it's fun in a painful way but you're absolutely losing IQ points in the process. They had a neat hook- just, the character design and title alone are enough to get you to buy a copy- but they clearly had nothing to hang that on, so they just keep floundering from one absurd, cock-eyed premise to another. Almost like there was no editorial oversight, just a general edict- "The comics with the burning skull sell a lot of copies at gas stations, pump out more of them." At one point Jesus helps Ghost Rider out but then later they retcon it to being THE DEVIL and then later I think THAT gets retconned into Mephisto, and whatever none of this matters or makes any sense you bought the book to see pictures of a flaming skull in a leather outfit riding a motorcycle so really the joke's on you if you thought you might be getting something coherent.
So yes, more Ghost Rider please.
