    That is the same Battery as an RC car, plane use. Its a 3s(11.1VDC) 8000 MAH 120C Lipo.. You can buy them anywhere from $110 - $200 depending on Manufacture. Only difference is the size of the leads...The Board is probably a BMS for the battery to level the cells.

    Used one of these boosters in a professional environment (AAA battery service in Los Angeles) every day for 10hrs. It replaced one of those lead acid boosters, a dinosaur that was heavy. Anyway I had over 700 jump starts on the GB150 b4 it quit, but it was kind of my fault because 10% of those vehicles had electrical system shorts that I was unaware of until I saw the sparks. I even jump started Ford 3500 diesels that had two batteries at times. Contacted Noco and they responded instantly! Sent the unit back, and they replaced it with a brand new one within a week. I thought it was going to b in a brown box and refurbished but it wasn't, it was in the original packaging and NEW. The customer service at Noco is amazing!!!!! I'm using the new one but I'm being more careful now, if a vehicle has recently been run and the battery is down to 6volts or less and nothing was left on such as the head lights don't boost it with ANY booster, just have it towed, a shorted vehicle will damage your booster!

    I just purchased the Noco GB70 this month and the labeling on mine said "Made In Malaysia'. That tells me that some companies are moving their manufacturing away from China. GOOD!!! I am really glad to hear that. So far, 100% satisfied with the 70. Seems to be excellent quality. Nothing second rate about this brand of jumper boxes. For the price, I just wish they would provide the hard shell storage box instead of making you purchase it separately.

I used something similar a month ago to get my wife's jeep to a dealer that had a bad cell after a deer accident and it did a superb job. Just to clarify, do not confuse Amps with Amp-hours, the first is current the second is energy. The unit is supposed to put out 4000A and if that is at 12V is really 48,000 Watts or about 32 hair-dryers on full blast. Amps are sort of like how fast the energy can come out where as Amp-hours is how much the battery can hold. The battery only holds 11.1V * 8Ah = 88.8Watt-hours or 0.0888kWh, to put it into the unit the power company uses to sell you electricity.

    Couldn't you use your RV batteries to jump start your truck?
    Is your RV a four season unit?

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I could and actually have in the past but that is if the truck happens to be close enough. I use a battery box mostly for portable 12-volt power, makes it convenient to use my 12-volt compressor to pump my tires and my pin box air bag. Also when boondocking I use it to run a water pump to add water to main tanks for jugs.
      My old lead acid battery box wore out and wanted to replace it with the newer lithium style that could at least boost my big diesel if needed. My old box was bought when I had a 300 cubic inch camper van so didn't have the power to jump our truck.
      No, the Cougar has what they call the Polar Package but it definitely isn't a 4 season rig.

    It's a 3 cell Lipo (Lithium Polymer) which yes is the same as a 3 cell lipo RC battery. Min Voltage is 11.1 ~ 3.7 min volts x 3 cells and Max Voltage Fully Charged is 12.6 volts which with lipo batteries is 4.2 volts per cell. What you were describing in the bottom was more than likely capacitors which allows the power to build from the battery for the boost. IF anyone knows what a capacitor is they'll know what I'm speaking of. The discharge rating was the 20C you were referring to in the battery type. I can't speak for that battery but in RC cars we run them either in series for parallel when we run multiple multi cell batteries. One will get you longer run times and the other more amperage for very fast power for very quick throttle compared to longer run time. The 8000 MAH seems as I've ran RC cars with 10000 MAH which is a really long run time.

    The circuitry in that booster won't allow you to run the battery dead flat. Lithium batteries will be damaged and may no longer work if you run them down to 0 Volts.

    • @DEVONLAD11
      @DEVONLAD11 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's not correct dead flat 0.00v Lithium batteries are hard to charge due to near dead short conditions. 0.00v Lithium batteries need recovering with high quality smart chargers to start the charge at CV and Variable Current until the voltage picks up and then CC.

      Ampere hours (Ah) multiplied by Voltage (V) equals Watt hours (Wh).
      Hence, 8,000 (mAh) * 11.1 (V) = 88,800 (mWh) or 88.8 (Wh).
      Watt hours (Wh) divided by Voltage (V) equals Ampere hours (Ah).
      Hence, 88.8 (Wh) / 11.1 (V) = 8 (Ah).
      Lastly, the battery's markings rate it at 88.8 (Wh) or 8 (Ah).

    Lithium batteries such as lithium polymer which is what this appears to be should not be stored without a charge. The proper way to store lithium batteries is to keep them at ~50% charge. This is why when you purchase new electronics with Lithium batteries they typically arrive half charged. You also never want to discharge them completely since that will damage the battery cells or even worse cause them to catch on fire. The electronics in the booster likely prevent that from happening and most likely kill the current when the battery voltage drops at all. Also, unlike NiMH or NiCad or lead acid batteries where the voltage can drop significantly (a few volts) from full charge to low charge, Li-Poly batteries like this will not fluctuate much at all in voltage from full charge to low charge. That is actually one of the desired traits of Li-Poly batteries since the voltage rolloff is low they run at peak performance almost until they reach their low charge state. Any significant voltage drop in a Li-Poly battery would indicate a damaged battery cell(s) which could be dangerous. You never want to fully discharge a Li-Poly battery. The fact that it is 11.1V battery means it is a 3 cell lithium polymer (3.7V *3) battery. 20C discharge is actually rather poor compared to batteries that are used in hobby grade RC cars and the like which typically have anywhere from 30C to 50C. 8000mAh is about as good as you get though in a small size 3-cell Li-Poly battery though. The reasons these new booster packs are so much smaller is simply because they moved away from the heavy lead acid battery ones to these new Li-Poly batteries. If you buy one of those external battery banks they cell on Amazon for your iPhone or other electronics, it is essentially the same principle as this booster albeit much lower current. Nice booster pack and thanks for the video..

      There is no evidence to back up your claim of charge state of lithiums. Your claim is based on a report 20 years old. They had no idea of long term effects of lithium. A better, more viable explanation is to keep the individual cells above the appropriate voltage (3.0v for lipo, I think 2.8v for lifepo4)
      The reason Lipo arrive HALF charged is that is their manufactured state. If you think they charge lipos in, say, cell phones, before they get sent out, you are in for a surprise.

    An auto tech reviewing this on Amazon ran one into a 500 amp max variable test load. It actually put out average 420 Amps at nominal 12 Volts for 20 seconds, then the over temperature protection kicks it out until it cools down... So, I don't think it's going to start the Dodge's 6.7l Cummins with two completely dead batteries down around 0 F., but if the batteries have even 70%, should turn it over. Normally, that truck barely starts if at all at 0 F. if the 2 Lead acid batteries are dead cold and down to 80%. If you wait for the full preheat cycle, the glowplugs and heater grid suck the batteries down so much there isn't enough left for the starter. Warm batteries are happy batteries...
    BTW, that's an 80 Amp hour battery. EIGHTY. 80,000 mWh ÷ by 1,000 mW per Watt = 80. An 8 amp hour 12V battery is about good for a tiny economy 3 or 4 cylinder, a big motorcycle or a healthy riding lawn mower, the little Li-ion jump starter units that cost around $50.00 would have somewhere around that capacity.

      You may want to watch my review video on the NOCO. - th-cam.com/video/bgOjEtO-YJs/w-d-xo.html
      I tested it on my 1994 7.3L Ford diesel. Started it with no batteries hooked up at all with cold glow plugs, not at 0 though, it was around 50F, but not bad. Also, that is an 8000 mAH battery = 8AH. The unit says 88 watt hours right on the outside. 8000mAH X 11.1V = 88.8 Wh - milliamps-watts.appspot.com/
      I also tested it running a load, it showed it to have about 8 amp hours capacity in the test. Wish it was an 80 AH battery that would be a wicked deal! Cheers Ray

      Love Your RV The new NOCO 150 unit arrived. Charged it up, went outdoors to the dead 6.7l Cummins diesel truck and started it right up at 18 F., about 10 seconds of glowplug/grid heater warmup and then turned over and fired as if it were summer with good batteries. Pulled the existing batteries out afterwards, 1 was completely dead and would not take a charge, the other tested at 30% of rated current when I returned them to the battery dealer. Got 2 new batteries under warranty, the dead Interstate batteries were only 34 months old on a 6 year warranty.

    Your too kind not calling their 4000A balderdash. FYI, I'm sure you know this but if your drawing 8 amps you won't get 1 hour out of it or 8 amp hours but it will be dead much less than an hour . If you fully discharge any battery faster than over 20 hours you'll get less than the "C20" rating indicates. People always forget about that when they figure what batteries can put out. Same with solar panels, people always believe a 200 watt panel will put out 200 when the sun is hitting them when that is mostly never the case but much less. You'll only get 200 watts when there is 100% clear skies AND the sun is squarely over them on two axis, which is pretty much never the case if ever without a tracker.
    Great effort trying to show what's in that thing. I was awaiting for this video. I figured it was 70/80% batteries. Cheers

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haha ya, I'm a nice guy.
      I knew that for lead acid but I thought that lithium ion batteries didn't suffer much from Peukert’s law and the AH rating would remain consistent even with higher current loads. That's why people like them in RVs to run high current devices like AC, and appliances, etc. Will be interesting to test it out. :)
      For solar you won't even get the max in perfect skies, they use lab measurements, but I guess that at least is a benchmark to compare from. Best is likely 75-80% in the real world, that's about what I get on a clear summer day pointed dead square.

    From a recent conversation with NOCO Customer Support:
    SierraSupport Specialist (NOCO)
    Oct 18, 2022, 14:19 MST
    If your unit has not been used much, that may be contributing to the issue. The Boosts have an internal lithium battery, and when lithium batteries sit for long periods of time without use, or are stored outside of the recommended temperature range (-20ºC to 50ºC), this can damage or weaken the internal battery, just like how your car battery's lifespan and performance will be negatively affected with extreme temperatures or lack of use. This is true not just of our products, but of lithium batteries in general. We suggest the Boost get regular usage by depleting the battery occasionally. You can simply charge USB devices like a cell phone to do this. This occasional cycling of the battery can help with longer battery health.
    The Boost's internal Lithium battery has a ~1000 cycle life. The cycle life is the number of complete charge/complete discharge cycles that the battery is able to support before its capacity falls under 85% of its original capacity. So if the battery is discharged to 60% and then charged to 80%, it isn't a complete cycle. The Boost should last several years with normal use and proper storage. In an industrial application, the amount of years they last will depend on the amount of use. We recommend cycling the battery occasionally (depleting and recharging) to keep the internal battery healthy. This can be done by jump-starting or charging USB devices.
    Your product carries a 1-Year Warranty. Based on the serial number you are 4 years and 9 months outside the warranty period. This unit has lasted a long period of time. • @LoveYourRV

      Media hype, if they were that unstable there would be many more instances of catastrophic failures. LiPo is in so many things these days like laptops for example, I'm surprised how little problems there are. But of course if there is the odd fail media jumps all over it with fear mongering. Also, it not like lead acid was trouble free.

      I've had this box for 4 1/2 years now and it's almost always sitting at full charge in case it is needed, still does the job perfectly. • @beachboardfan9544
      @beachboardfan9544 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Here is what NOCO faq says: "Does it hold a charge?
      All Boost models can hold 70% of its rated capacity for up to one year. For optimal performance, we recommend charging the device at least every 4-6 months, after initial charge."
      The whole point of the battery jumper box is for it to be ready to be put to use in an emergency. So it not like you can keep it half charged. I imagine they engineered the battery and charging circuits to deal with its specialized use case. A short burst of high amps to jump-start vehicles. Possibly by not fully charging it or using different lithium chemistry. The full light might say full charge but that doesn't mean the actual cells are at 100%.

    All the home gamer boosters are over rated this one is no exception. The battery label you show says 11.1 volt @ 120c with 8,000mah or also known as 8ah capacity. So your kind of right in that it means the discharge rating. To get the amps out of that ratting you multiply the two 11.1x120= 1332A is all that pack can actually put out. The better pack to buy is the Matco MTXtreme its actually $15 cheaper then the NOCO GB150 and is rated with actual numbers at 1,200 peak amps but its a 24,000mah or 24ah capacity means you can get more and longer cranking out of it with the same actual starting amps. Cons are that the Matco is twice as wide as the GB150 and the Jump cables are smaller gauge. Pros are that it will also jump a 24volt piece of equipment with a setting change and has a 10 amp 12volt output.
