Arto is an interesting track because the melody you are hearing is centuries old. It's a well known Armenian prayer. It really expresses their armenian heritage.
I also think it works really well as a capstone to the album: Toxicity starts with songs that highlight specific factual problems in the world, like the justice system, addiction, and police brutality and then drifts into more personal, spiritual matters as the album progresses. Arto feels like the crescendo to that arc. It's like this "toxicity" eats through this person's entire body until there's nothing left but the soul.
@@theo6525 I like your take on this! It's crazy and honestly kinda scary that the sociopolitical issues addressed on this album just get more and more relevant over time. SOAD was warning us all the way back in 2001 and now we're pretty much here at the end result of humanity not listening to their message 😬

I didn't start listening to SOAD until 2016. The song Toxicity got my attention when I heard it on the radio. Then I started listening to the album every now and then. Forest, Aerials, and Chop Suey. Got my attention.

ayy finally ya did a video on soad! you mentioned them in your three cheers review so i was hoping for a discussion or something. personal favs are either aerials or needles. aerials has such a wonderful sound and message, and the final 30 seconds where serj and daron harmonize send me out of this goddamn plane of existence. i also love needles because it has the energy from their self titled album, but with the same level of refinement found on the rest of the albums tracks. even though toxicty is a wonderful album, imo self titled beats it. while self titled is definitely more grungy and not as refined as their other works, there's such a raw energy and aggression on that album that none of their other efforts really match. the pure blood-pumping aggression and power from songs like know, sugar, soil, war?, and P.L.U.C.K hit me in ways that the rest of their discography just doesn't.
assuredly. i wanna ask, have you listened to steal this album! and did you like it? to me while there are some standouts like mr.jack, I-E-A-I-A-I-O, and roulette, most of the album didn't really stick with me. it felt a lot like toxicity b-sides. which makes sense as the album is basically just cleaned up versions of songs that never made it onto toxicity.
Bounce is pretty low and psycho is also said to be “forgettable” but they are probably some of my more listened to songs on the album. Your top 7 is pretty valid tho.
Really liked this video and definitely wouldn’t mind more videos of this format in the future. I’m a big SOAD fan, so it was nice to see that you really enjoyed this album.
ok so I think forest is about religion. The fist line, "walk with me me little child "could represent how when we're all born, we're pretty much forced into religion and don't have a say in it until we're older." through the forest of denial " shows how religion is huge, hence the word forest and when people question its flaws, people will go in denial even if it means to defend something that's morally wrong. And the chorus "why can't you see That you are my child, why don't you know that you are my mind" this can refer to God and how he created humans, him being the father and the child being Adam and even, and acting against God would result in major punishment, thus this line is a message from God to the humans that reminding them who's really in power. Idk maybe I'm overthinking but that's what I believe what this song entails
Brad Taste in Music Also forgot to mention that the second part of chorus "tell everyone in the world that I'm you, take this promise to the end of you." the first line could be saying how we're all a product of God, and second one represents how how we're obligated to follow the rules of religion until death no questions asked and if you don't then you'll go to hell by God's standards, and people try to work their way around this rule by saying that God's all merciful so we can still be bad people but as long as we ask for forgiveness it's okay.
Shimmy is a comment on the mundane nature of common core and how it invokes atypical, forwarding behavior on the kids on how life will be like later on, in a "better time", rather than what's happening right now. Or at least, that's how I look at it.
Love your channel, Brad! Just keep doing what you enjoy, don't feel pressured to listen to whatever everyone else wants you to. Hey nice video! Love your editing! Could you react to White Pepper by Ween?
Actually bounce and jet poilot is here to add some humor so the heavier meaning songs to hit harder and to keep it from getting boring
I seriously think shimmy is one of the best songs
Prison Song is the best song on the album don't fucking @ me
the background records have returned!
Wtf Bounce and Jet Pilot at the end??!!?! No seriously for me they're all very good and I can't just classify them
Hahaha bounce and shimmy being so low makes me so sad. Pogopogopogopogopogopogo
