Owing to the large area of coverage this plane has to cover, just what is the range and endurance? Up in the polar region, you are a long way from fuel and landing areas. It looks like a good aircraft with all of the bells and whistles to help in locating people and ships in trouble. My concern is the effective search and rescue range of this aircraft. unbelievable performances of the landing gear!!! where did that come from??? do u mean to say the C295 has a sturdy landing gear??? anyway AIRBUS needs to reinforce the C295's front & rear landing gear & furthermore both the front & rear main (wheeled) landing gears needs to be longer & taller by 26%-30% at the very least, in the interest of better ground clearance & minimizing foreign object damage to the C295's fuselage under belly when operating from unpaved rough air strips!!! the C295 is a good well engineered medium-sized cargo aircraft, way better than the An-26!!!

The whole irony of buying the Aussie jets is that the were upgraded here in Canada. Those F-18s were flown pretty hard by the Aussie pilots even if they didn't see any combat.
Great video of a great plane. I wish the Canadian FWSAR livery could have been updated with this new aircraft. It's SOO ugly. It's not even good 'retro'!
The livery isn't meant to be pretty. It's designed to help people easily and quickly identify the aircraft and its purpose. If you're lost in the woods or stranded in a boat way out on one of the great lakes or far from shore in the Atlantic or Pacific regions, you're not going to care about the livery of the aircraft that has been sent to rescue you. You'll notice that the rescue aircraft is big, it's yellow and help is on the way.
We still can and do our government just doesn’t buy them look at Viking air based in Victoria they have the rights to build all of DHC and bombardiers old stuff
Shit, we bought 56 of these? WTF. Why didn't we license build these? Or buy the V-22 Osprey instead and build out of the Bell Helicopter plant in Montreal? The Trudeau government is so fucking stupid.
Umm less range a V-22s ferry range is about 4130km the C-295s is 5728km smaller cargo bay V-22 19.57 cubic metres C-295 65cubic metres and at least 20millon dollars more expensive for the base airframe for the ability to do a vertical take off and landing which is redundant because we already have the CH-149
Nice aircraft for groomed runways but, what about the rest of Canada. Did we really have to outsource when we have a perfectly good manufacturing sector... oh sorry, we gave that away to the Airbus people!
I suppose this is PM Trudeaux’s ABA policy (anything but American). The C-130J is 100 mph faster, has twice the range and has a payload that is well over twice that of the C295. The C-130 has a track record of being rugged and reliable and can supply some of the most inhospitable places on the earth. Oh well, I guess you get what you pay for.
Canada already operates the C-130J. It's too large for this mission and can't get into the same strips as the C295 (or for that matter the DHC-5 Buffalo that the C295 replaces)
@@adam_mawz_maas We fly Casa's (USCG), but call it HC-144 Ocean Sentry. I think the version Canada is getting is better than ours. We landed our C130 on French Frigate Shoals. th-cam.com/video/kahvPpXWbKI/w-d-xo.html to evac people, never mind landing on an aircraft carrier. I am sure a C295 is more economical to use for some missions, which is why USCG has medium range SAR planes. unbelievable performances of the landing gear!!! where did that come from??? do u mean to say the C295 has a sturdy landing gear??? anyway AIRBUS needs to reinforce the C295's front & rear landing gear & furthermore both the front & rear main (wheeled) landing gears needs to be longer & taller by 26%-30% at the very least, in the interest of better ground clearance & minimizing foreign object damage to the C295's fuselage under belly when operating from unpaved rough air strips!!! the C295 is a good well engineered medium-sized cargo aircraft, way better than the An-26!!!
It's ok, no one needed to be able to stand up in it or parachute out safely...
Rear bay height is 1.9m which is taller then 99% of the global population however the vortex issue is sort of a problem
@@jameson1239 "sort" of a problem he says, cute.
You sound like a c295 salesman trying to push that 1.9m dimension as adequate. Tell us, how much of the width of the cabin is that 1.9m? Roughly 1 foot. Now factor in the SAR techs' in the back who have helmets on that add several inches of bulk, and also have to carry hundreds of pounds of equipment now in a hunch position, only to static line out the back and strike the table.
Laughably inadequate aircraft.
@@MrCdrant 1.9 metres is just the height of the cargo bay if it was the full volume I would have said cubic metres or square metres the dimensions of the cargo bay are as follows length 12.96 metres width 2.70 metres height 1.9 metres total cargo bay volume 69.09 cubic metres the buffalo has a total volume of 44.74 cubic metres but it is far taller at 2 metres tall then 1.9 metres tall but again what percentage of SARTechs are over 1.8 metres tall? and there’s the vortex issue which is I believe being worked on don’t really know how there going to fix it though we probably should have bought the C-27j spartan but well this was cheaper so here we are
@@jameson1239 "what percentage of SARTechs are over 1.8 metres tall?"
Nearly all of them when they put a helmet on, they add several inches of height. You're also ignoring that that's only the centre of the fuselage, not even accounting for moving around, passing other people. It's a shit aircraft that is going to cause hundreds of people throughout its lifespan to have real neck and back injuries.

So they stand all the time?
Wake up.

Gonna piss off some of you.... CANADA has a rich history of building aircraft from deHavilian to avero to bombardier.. why on hell did they allow scarebus to make a plane that should be unique designed and built for CANADA..
CS program.......now A220. Did you really need to ask that question? ;)
Because the conservatives have been aggressively and enthusiastically dismantling our aerospace sector since 1958
Apperently it was offered a modernized CC-115
Canada manufacturer of legendary Canuck, Arrow, Caribou, Buffalo, CL215-415, Beaver, Otter, TwinOtter, Dash 6-7-8 and Bombardier CRJs give Airbus a mouthful of moldy bread in 2020 not even able to build a transport plane.
Yes it looks good this device but leaves a bitter taste.
CSeries, the best narrowbody aircraft ever built, is now owned by Airbus too.
Um we could use some jet fighters. Maybe we can convert this thing into a fighter plane. Would be better than the crappy old CF-18 s and second hand junk we bought off the Aussies.
''second hand junk we bought off the Aussies.''
Steady on.....old man......a steal.....''never used in combat....only flown to church on Sundays'''......pristine, new leather smell.....''junk''....you were lucky to get em.......:-)
@@SuperSetright We're lucky to have any planes at all in our piece of garbage air force. It's a joke Canada can't even defend itself. I've been a pilot since 1984 and have come across many ex-forces pilots and aircrew over the years. You don't even want to hear some of the horror stories.

You are telling me that we can't build our own planes.we built the arrow for God's sake don't tell me that we can't
nope most of Canada's engineers and our infrastructure has been eroded since 1959
We still can and do our government just doesn’t buy them look at Viking air based in Victoria they have the rights to build all of DHC and bombardiers old stuff
Close to one million man hours to tweak an existing plane? Sounds like a load of man hours from other projects were shifted to this one.
Boeing spent that on the Max. Man hours on a computer add up. Even if you are checking emails from the wife.
ATR on steriods
I crewed on HC130H's, we go way out in the ocean for SAR's and other searches. Casa has no where near the range of our C130. But if you have to fly 1000+ miles out into the ocean and then conduct your search, you are not flying in a C295. The one in this vid is a really good looking and I am sure highly functional plane for the missions it was designed for. Also, Canada has P3's for long range.
mawzthefinn ;
We do use the C-130 even for SAR
We just bought 18 c130j s ,what planet are you from???
Sorry,,indo can't do it
