All of the vaccines that are pushed during pregnancy and as soon as baby is born. They scare us by saying your baby will die if you say no.
My babies are healthy and happy! God made our bodies for this!

Diaper changing station in her room. We bought a changing pad to put on top of her dresser, and she is nearly one and we have yet to use it. We have three portable pads that we have around the house and it is so much more convenient than taking her to her room to change her. It's still sitting in her closet. If we have another baby, we are definitely purchasing more of those

Designated “nursery” room, bassinet, stroller. I choose to co-sleep and hold my baby close to me whenever possible :) I do love having a simple bouncer to place my infant in when I’m cooking tho etc.
Oh and the fun one: finding out the gender of my baby during pregnancy. It’s so much more exciting finding out when the baby is born ✨

      Never had or needed a:
Bouncer / lounger / jumper / swing- I am days away from baby #3 and never had or wanted one for the other two littles.
Changing table, no thanks! It was always either the bed, their dresser or floor.
Baby monitor- we have the babies in our room until 18 months or so and I didn’t need the added stress of an alarm going off if the sock came off etc.
Wipe warmer - I had fall and winter newborns, they were fine with room temp wipes.
Noisy toys - ugh. No. Your comment about the noise clutter - so true.
Crib - we had our little ones in a cosleeeper, bassinet, pack and play and then went to a toddler bed that they could get in and out of on their own.

Some very common things I skipped out on for my first baby I had last May:
    - baby monitor (I can walk to his room)
    - diaper bag (I already owned a big purse)
    - bassinet (newborns can sleep in cribs)
    - sound machine (he does fine without it)
    - maternity clothes (just wore dresses)
    - belly butter (coconut oil instead)
    - buying him toys (he has so many that were gifted)
    - buying him clothes (I decided to be happy and make do with what was gifted to me)
So many more things too, but I want to say thank you to you, Madisun, for helping me have such a beautiful and peaceful pregnancy! I found you right around the time I found out I was pregnant, and decided to clear out 75% of my wardrobe… which was the catalyst to a whole lifestyle change! I’m really having the best time being mom ❤️

I'm with you with all of these except the sound machine. I was a nanny and babysat for many many families for many years. And hands down the babies and toddlers that slept the best were those with sound machines. It was such a stark difference that I have always remembered it.

I’m glad to see another person without a baby monitor. I’m super on the fence about it since we live in a small apartment and I truly don’t love the idea of watching my child every single second of their life. Like it’s already giving me anxiety thinking of how often I’d be watching it just to be looking for something wrong.

    • @kyeshaap2474
      @kyeshaap2474 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Baby monitor is an essential for me as I have been forgetful in the past or sleep deprivation also. I may be in another room sit down for awhile and knock out and not hear my child crying or get lost doing something else. If someone has a smaller home I can see this not being an issue but it does give me a peace of mind, to step outside or be in a loud room like the laundry room and not panic. It actually takes away a lot of my anxiety more so than not having one. Just a different perspective of course.

I’m seven weeks pregnant. This video is a life saver. There are so many videos popping up on my TH-cam feed about don’t do this or that during pregnancy. I’ve also read about birthing horror stories. I’ve gotten to the point that not every one else’s opinions matter at this point. I’m happy being pregnant and taking care of myself and my baby is more important than all the “information” out there. Thank you for being a voice of truth and reason.

I appreciate this video so much and would love to see a baby must-haves video! I'm pregnant with my rainbow baby and had so many hopes in enjoying this pregnancy, but I have HG [Hyperemesis Gravidarum]. I'm slowly learning how to find the blessings with this illness, but I've had to accept that a lot of sacrifice is necessary for keeping me and the baby alive - way more medical intervention than I dreamed it would be. I pray no other mamas have to experience this and have the pregnancy of their dreams. Regardless, your presence and speaking to reducing stress in pregnancy brought a bit of peace to my day, so thank you, Madisun!

I just had my third baby 5 months ago. It was at home and my first unmedicated birth. Everyday when I woke up, before I got out of bed I would thank God for all of his blessings and pray that he would give me a pain free birth and healthy baby.
My birth was nearly pain free, my midwife couldn’t believe I was 10cm when she arrived. The only painful part was my baby coming out. I had Fetal Ejection Response so it happened so fast by the time I registered the pain I was already getting a post birth high holding my baby!
The most beautiful experience of my life. I will never go back to an unnecessarily medicated birth.
I loved the way you speak about womanhood! I would love if you did a dedicated video on honoring ourselves as women and feeling sexy and beautiful through all stages of life. How minimalism opens up the freedom of femininity

The timing for this video couldn't be more perfect. I started following you weeks ago, and I found out a few days ago that I am pregnant for the first time. I've done some research and reached out to a midwife, but I found that I just can't handle the "worst case" stories I find. There's definitely a unique sort of "pregnancy peace" that I'm experiencing and I love it. I set up my Berkey yesterday and I've been working at eating clean for years, but I want to up my game. Love your videos and your spirit.

(Not necessarily the topic of pregnancy, as we’re done with that, but your over-arching message of living with less, living in touch with ourselves, etc.) I’ve just bought a book on the female cycle, recommended by you and I’ve made a few changes that help me lead a better, simpler, more meaningful life. Thank you, angel.

I have to say, while most maternity clothing is ridiculous to me, the stretchy banded leggings/ pants are pretty necessary if you live somewhere cold.

    • @Picklescape
      @Picklescape 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Those trousers are amazing!
I guess it depends on your style. I had a small waist and wore a lot of clothes tailored for that, so once my bump started to show, very quickly my own clothes stopped fitting. As a result, the maternity clothes my friend donated to me (including those stretchy waist band/bump covering trousers you mentioned) have been completely invaluable. I would not be without them.
All that said, I agree with what she says in the video about clothes designed to compress your bump, that I definitely don't want 😂

The support band is to help hold up your belly if it starts to become painful. It helped me a lot at the end of my pregnancy and I ended up giving it to a friend because she had the same issue. Only necessary if it’s necessary though for sure!

My “babies” are 26, and 21 (twins). I was minimalist with them because we just didn’t have a lot of money. The one thing I did need was the maternity band thing to go around your belly with my twins. I’m a very small person and my tummy was so heavy that I had to wear that underneath the bump to help my back. Another thing was this pillow that wrapped around my middle so that I could have something to rest my arms on while nursing the twins. I usually nursed them at the same time 😅

I agree that the number of things targeted at pregnant women are sometimes overwhelming and can be super unnecessary however the maternity belly bands were amazing in the second and third trimester when the weight of my belly gave me pelvic pain or my back was aching. Couldn’t have gotten through it without one 😅

    • @elizabethlizbaker
      @elizabethlizbaker 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

100% this! I had awful pelvic pain and round ligament pain during my 2nd pregnancy and the support bands were ESSENTIAL. I'm petite with such a short torso, I was all belly and it really needed support- so some things really depend on the woman and her body.

I wish I could just have a sit down conversation with you! This video is exactly how I feel. I felt I needed everything with my first two pregnancies, even though I was planning homebirths with both. Unfortunately, I had to transfer to hospital and had two very traumatic births. One having my extremely medically complex son. I'm pregnant with #3 and planning to have a homebirth, Lord willing this time. But I've been having to really pay attention to my mental health during this time and being minimal in every way possible to keep my mind in a good healthy space. I just recently started getting a lot of anxiety and fear creep in. I'm guessing some trauma that I hadn't dealt with is coming up and I'm starting to have a hard time. I've tried to talk to multiple people but don't feel like people understand the magnitude of everything for me at the moment. I feel like when I come to your channel, there is a glimpse on understanding I get from you. All that to say, I'm thankful for your channel and feel like in real life we'd be friends haha! Anyways thank you for always making women see that they are capable without the consumption and without immense amount of "education". We can know our bodies and know what is right for us and our babies!

Gosh I LOVE this video!! I could not agree more as I sit here 32ish weeks along with our third. Some of these things were fun with my second pregnancy (we lost our first and it was all very exciting and nerve wracking the second go-round) but with my second and third, I have just not given them the time of day. Growing life is such a gift! I don't want anything taking my attention from it. I live in bliss not knowing the size of my baby, the side effects I should be expecting, the junk I need to buy. For this baby I bought a coming home outfit (my own tradition/keepsake for each kid) a new haaka, colostrum collectors, after-ease, pads, and new underwear and pajamas. All of which (minus the outfit) were needs. Give me some dresses, give me the sun, give me two kids to chase around all day every day, some Berkey water, a handful of dates and I am set! It's so sad the strong hold all of these companies have on pregnant women. This should be a time of ease, not overwhelm.

Everything you are saying resonates with my heart 100%!!!! I am 38 years old, a Believer in Christ, still actively waiting on Him and preparing for my husband and our children and home, and I cannot tell you HOW ENCOURAGING it is to hear someone say everything you are saying in this video ( and all of your videos)!!! What you are describing and the way you are approaching pregnancy, motherhood, and life in general is what I have always thought and longed for and yet heard only a handful of women say through the years. GOD BLESS YOU FOR BEING ONE OF THEM! Keep being obedient to what He leads you to do--as a WOMAN--no matter how "against the grain" of our crazy culture it is. You are inspiring countless others to do the same--just like me. The LORD bless you and your sweet family, Sister, and I will be praying for you! PSALM 103 💖💐💖🙏🏽💖

Loved this video!! In my pregnancy all I want to do is declutter my home of junk so it can be a clean organized peaceful space for my family. There are so many “must have” videos that make me want to puke! The way ppl treat a baby as a another materialistic milestone! I felt bad for not doing weekly photos with cards as my SIL suggested but I agree with you, that just sounds stressful! Same with the pregnancy journal, I recently declutterred a bunch of notebooks and journals I bought in an unhealthy stationary phase and I only want my one simple journal now! I absolutely have maternity yoga pants though but I always had yoga pants before and the wide band helps keep the pants up, especially when its like 20* out.
Also I got a doppler, but thats because I was in the drs office every 7-10 days for the first few months because of bleeding, and the doppler just made it easy to check instead of constantly calling them.

Take vitamin D, ladies! The benefits of taking vitamin D during your pregnancy are so huge for you and baby.
Sadly, a typical prenatal vitamin only has 200 IU of vitamin D, but the most optimal dose is between 1000 and 4000 IU. Studies have shown that taking a higher dose has the most benefits for pregnant women, and 4000 IU daily is safe to take during pregnancy. Read up on it yourself. I personally take 3000 IU daily during pregnancy.

How is spending money a new/thrifted clothes to size up a size any different than spending money on maternity wear? If that works for you that’s awesome! I did the same thing for some of my maternity clothes but I also missed out on clothes that actually fit my baby bump a little better. And I immediately had to downsize after having my baby because the clothes were so big.

First time mom here. Hah! 😆 thanks for what you said about us. I’ve only been a mom for 3 months but it’s something that I’ve been telling myself. God chose me to be her mom. I know my own baby. No, I don’t know everything and wouldn’t claim to. But I’ve seen so much advice or tips (mostly online) about this or that and a lot of them didn’t work for us. And then I got frustrated because maybe I’m doing things wrong. 😅 finally I just blocked content or unfollowed accounts and focused on my baby and what my motherly instincts were telling me and things have been going MUCH better. Plus I have less stress & anxiety from not focusing so much on making sure I’m following the latest and greatest parenting “hacks” and ideas.

Madi, you seem so calm and happy in this video, more so than usual. I can't pinpoint what it is exactly, but something is different! You are making me miss being pregnant! ❤
Also, I would love to hear how you manage to read with your kids around. I only ever get to read if it's super late at night or the kids are watching TV, so neither is ideal!

Hi @MadisonGray ❤ I really appreciated this video and specially this topic because I’m in my first pregnancy and I’ve always been in the mindset that I don’t need that much to have a successful pregnancy! It’s hard sometimes to have to defend myself to my family but this video was also affirming. I can’t wait for the minimum things we need for baby.
Question: I’ve also heard a lot of suggestions to use chiropractic care. I had a bad experience with a chiropractor before pregnancy so my husband and I are not easily convinced. BUT I would like to know what you might suggest to find a good chiropractor and a good masseuse!?
Thanks for your time and again for the affirming video❤ God bless

I'm also not doing any pregnancy books (other than maybe a cookbook because i love collecting cookbooks) and i track baby size and growth but only research symptoms seperately if I'm experiencing something and want to know if it's common. I'm happy to finally be getting towards then end of my first trimester so I have some energy again. I've helped so many friends through their pregnancy that I expected my own to be rougher than it has been so far.

I grew up in a farm. Also, my family members were usually pregnant. For me pregnancy and giving birth was completely normal and no need to buy all this stuff. It’s crazy how society is so scared of pregnancy, specially giving birth. I’m due in few days and I’m not scared, but it’s easy to get scared if you heard people talking. I’ll also will avoid pregnancy Facebook groups. I join one and the amount of madness is out of control.

I’ve gotten a few specific maternity clothing items because my regular clothes or sizing up or just wearing dresses was just not enough. I’m 32 weeks and live in South Dakota, so most of my pregnancy thus far has been in the snow and cold. I have two pairs of maternity jeans and one pair of maternity leggings (my usual leggings are all high-waisted and I did not want to stretch them out and make them unwearable after). Also a stretchy cute maternity t-shirt because I loved the print on it 😉
My regular hoodies and sweaters are all over-sized and still fit me. And when the snow finally quits, I have a couple of stretchy non-maternity dresses that will easily accommodate my belly.
As far as nursing bras go… I thought I wasn’t going to buy any, but my boobs have fluctuated so much in size already that I had to buy a few alternatives to be more comfy, which included some Kindred Bravely bras I got on sale. They’re really cute and comfy and don’t look like the traditional frumpy kind.
    I’ll never understand maternity undies.

I find this video so encouraging. The idea of pregnancy is fairly intimidating but I’m going to for sure apply some of the concepts. I would love to see your thoughts on the bare minimum things you need for the first year of a baby. I really don’t want to clutter up my home with junk but it’s hard to know what is actually essential.

Love this video, though just want to add that I’ve just been recommended compressing my bump to help support my lower back better in the third trimester by the physio at my hospital. You absolutely do not need to buy any compression products, the physio can just provide tubigrip fabric and that’s all that is needed.
I was very much the same as you and didn’t like compressing my bump much before, but it has made a massive difference with my back pain.

I’m currently not expecting, but ever since I was in high school, I’ve heard so many birth stories (both good and bad), that most had deterred me from wanting to have babies. I had put myself on birth control for 16 years and now, last year, I want children.
Technically, I had an expired birth control device that made me REALLY want them and I tried to tell myself “no”. My brain was trying to weigh the pros and cons but my body just said “eh. I’m cool with that.” My mind just stopped being negative that day and I came to the realization that my brain and body were ready and I was no longer afraid to have babies. Sure, I currently have high blood pressure and I know my risks but I also know there are solutions to help me.
Since I’m 38, I also had an “existential crisis” a few months ago (one about my body probably not producing enough eggs) but what also gave me hope, was seeing stories, positive ones, where older people were having children for the first time.
I thank you so SOOOOO MUCH for sharing your positive stories about child birth and I hope to continue hearing others just as positive to help me on my journey. 🙂

I am a home birth doula and during my training we were told that when moms feel the need to share all the negative personal stories from their own births that it is because they have not fully processed it and healed from it. I found that interesting.

The claw grabber 😂 I was doing weighted squats and lunges right up until the end. Movement was slower but fully accessible. However my husband bought that grabber after I had an emergency cesarean. I couldn’t bend over post surgery and I kept bursting into tears because I didn’t like feeling helpless. It worked really well…until I dropped the grabber 😂. In the end, I was recovered within a couple weeks and definitely would’ve benefited more from allowing myself that time to rest and accept support.

My friend gave me one for the end of my twin pregnancy. The floor was a really really long way away haha. But my son broke it after a week because it was just too exciting not to be a sword haha. I ended up just using my toes as grabbers or I would give my kids a box and tell them to pick up everything off the floor. My husband would come home and there would be a trail of socks and what not that had fallen on the ground or the dishes that I couldn’t put away. I don’t think any amount of lunges or squats would have helped me in those final weeks. Both twin nearly 3kg each at 34 weeks so I grew them a little too well!

Madison, you precious and wise mama!! Speaking of all the things I taught as a massage therapist with holistic care and using massage/chiropractic care. I would suggest a pelvic floor PT specialist to add to the list. Also will add that after 4 babies, NONE of my birth "hopes and wishes" (because we all know what a good plan accomplishes) happened like I wanted. Lastly, having a midwife, a doula, lactation educator, AND a therapist in women's health at the ready to help process those unexpected things that occur during birth and after are paramount. Find a midwife that isn't towing the standard medical practices laid out by hospitals and OBs. If you can. Because of my age I wasn't legally allowed to work with midwives. Spent my last two pregnancies fighting inductions and every intervention imaginable. In the end, I did need them for my last daughter as I contracted COVID unbeknownst to me. I was very sick when labor progressed to the last stages. Sometimes as a mama the biggest thing to remember is not the where or how but the who. You and your baby, healthy and whole, are the PURPOSE. Bless you and your pregnancy.

This is my fifth pregnancy, currently 31 weeks. 😊 The only things I'm interested in bringing into my house at this point are things that will address a certain problem or issue I am having. For example, I'm going to the store later today to buy a few more maternity t-shirts because I have very few that fit me lengthwise. Also I bought another birth ball because my previous one popped from my cat. 😂 I try not to browse and look at products randomly for babies/moms because while the item might be cool, does it really fill a need I have? I need my life to be easier to manage at this point, not more stuff to clean and manage.

I will say I personally didn’t purchase maternity underwear. But a friend gifted me some towards the end of my pregnancy and the relief I felt when I put them on. 👌🏼😅 I don’t know if it was the extra support or what … but my normal underwear just didn’t fit well and were too tight on my lower belly and through out my pregnancy any tightness across my belly made me nauseous or uncomfortable and just having the band on the underwear being on top of my stomach just solved all kinds of problems.😅

I totally get what you're saying about maternity underwear. I ended up really needing to wear them during my second pregnancy, though, because I'd had a c-section for my first one. I do see your point on many of these and enjoyed your videos but was confused about the essential oils when you have a candle in the background? I personally found essential oils very helpful during my home birth. There is actually scientific research to show certain smells can be calming and peppermint/aroma ease helped me when I felt nauseated. But to each their own. I found the maternity clothing interesting but actually made sense because now I can’t wear them postpartum maybe next time I can find a point to find more comfortable dresses for maternity.
