The Doctor-Donna dynamic has to be one of the most fun and entertaining of the whole show! Great reaction and I'm super proud of you for recognising someone! That's rare, and you are so in the right to give yourself a pat on the back for that.
A bittersweet fact about this episode: The role Wilf plays in the plot was going to be filled by Donna's father, played by the same actor from The Runaway Bride, except he sadly died before production went anywhere. Russell T Davies was so happy working with Bernard Cribbins in the Voyage of the Damned, he decided to make Wilf Donna's grandfather and to fulfil that role in her life - and he made the right choice, the man acts it beautifully.
@@asterix7842 a character from the show Avatar: The Last Airbender. Both Uncle Iroh and Wilfred Mott are older characters who are beloved by the fanbase due to their upbeat attitude and wisdom
Rewatched this with a friend on Saturday and he brought up the keys too 😂 Easy solution: after waving to wilf they could’ve flown by Sylvia and drop the keys down to her 😂😂😂
@@ItsArcticVision They could have dropped the keys down to Wilf or even come down and given them to him to give to Sylvia. I think it would be too much of a shock for Sylvia to see the TARDIS at this point.
Just love Catherine Tate. She's a rare talent and great in everything she does. The chemistry between her and David Tennant are a perfect match both off and on screen. I get a kick out of Donna's family dynamic. Donna's grandfather was also the old man working at the newspaper stand when the Titanic was getting ready to crash. BTW: Emme, you have become the best Dr. Who reactors on YT.
Nice reaction to this very funny episode. It's also funny you didn't recogized Donna's Grandfather. He was already seen in the Titanic Christmas special, when the Group teleported to earth with Mr. Copper.
RTD originally planned this series to have a new companion named Penny. But then Catherine Tate expressed an interest, so Penny was dropped (pun not intended) in favour of Donna. It's funny, in the behind the scenes for The Runaway Bride, the cast debates if Donna counts as a companion. Now? No question. This episode was mostly shot with Donna's dad from The Runaway Bride. But sadly the actor died, so he was replaced last minute with Bernard Cribbins from Voyage of the Damned.
@@sallyatticum more like the reporter was named after the planned companion for the season; I feel like between RTD's original notes and the reporter Penny's reaction to everything it's safe to say they're very different characters.
"Health and Safety... you be health, I'll be safety." One of the funniest lines in the entire series lol. "Wait! HELP!" Best reaction I've seen to that cameo lol.
When The Doctor finally saw Donna I was like “Thank the lord!” 😂😂😂 The 10th Doctor and Donna are definitely my favourite pairing even since The Runaway Bride. Their chemistry is amazing even off the screen. David Tennant and Catherine Tate are great friends. Donna really keeps The Doctor’s humanity in check and in the next few episodes that is so evident. Donna really is one of the best companions. I think what also makes her a great companion is that she is just a friend to The Doctor and that becomes a staple throughout the rest of the series. Rose and Martha had a romance with The Doctor and I don’t think that worked well.
@@grabtharshammer Understandable if you are not British. To the rest of the world the newsvendoe in the Titanic episode was jut a bit part actor To most Brits it was "Whoa it;s Bernard Cribbins"

And that you came to love Donna so soon, after her first appearance was so brief and confusing. Great video, thank you. And enjoy Donna!
Love this episode! I was dreading Donna becoming the new companion because she was exhausting in _The_ _Runaway_ _Bride,_ but they changed her character just enough without it seeming unnatural - she feels like another human inspired to be more by their encounter with the Doctor. Also, my kids gave me an adipose stress toy, which was great (until it started leaking a year or two later)!
Location report: The office block was Helmont House on Churchill Way in Cardiff, formally the office of British Gas in Wales. And so good to see the legend that is Bernard Cribbins!.
Do you know who would've made a great companion? That guy selling newspapers in the Christmas special. Whatever happened to him? And yeah, if you want an adipose, you can 100% buy one. Plenty of people wanted an adipose plush.
The guy selling newspapers WAS Donna's Grandfather - Wilfred Mott (Bernard Cribbins). Not just the same actor, but the same character. That's why, when he sees the Doctor standing behind Donna, he starts shouting "Thats him! I knew it! That's him!"
Donna's grand father will bring you to tears ,he was also in the titanic episode when they all went to earth ,all the things you can imagine are going to happenand all the things you can't imagine.
I agree about all the romantic nonsense with David Tennant and his companions. That's just one of the reasons Donna is so popular. They have a great dynamic together.
I've been waiting for a good jumping in point to your DW reactions, and Partners in Crime is a great one. She was the companion when I started watching, and she's my official favorite for all time.
Donna’s my favorite New Who Companion (Sarah Jane’s my favorite Classic Who Companion followed by Jamie) 🙂 And then there’s Wilfred Mott, who’s just the best! I think one of the few things DW fans can agree on is Wilf is the best and we love him (Rest in Power to Bernard Cribbins 🥺)
Donna was only supposed to be a one-off character for the Christmas special. But she did such a great job and everyone loved her - and David and Catherine have such chemistry - that they asked her back to be a companion and she said "yes".
Doctor Donna is also my favourite era for Doctor Who, not to say there's not great stuff before it or after, I just gelled with their chemistry really well!
"I thought that was going to be the most disturbing thing ever, but it's kinda cute." This is Dr Who in a nutshell. They are either taking the most terrifying concepts and making them silly and fun, or they are taking the most ridiculous concepts and making them terrifying. Either way we get a healthy mix of both.
Donna is without a doubt my favourite companion (season 5 has my favourite Tardis group) she is so much like the rest of us when it comes to dealing with the Doctor. You don't want the dangers but you love the adventure.
The TARDIS materializing is really loud but between the perception filter and Donna’s known penchant for missing important alien events, it makes perfect sense she didn’t hear it pop up behind her as she was walking away.
Love Bernard Cribbins at the end , sadly missed . Donna is just what the Doctor ordered and a mysterious appearance by Rose . Catherine Tate and David Tennant make a great team and there is plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks .
I've been waiting for you to react to this episode, ever since you mentioned that you had hoped Donna would stay with the Doctor, when watching The Runaway Bride. I bet you're glad she changed her mind.
When I worked for the BBC, our big boss was (in real life) Miss Foster’s husband. One of my colleagues got an official warning from HR for drunkenly calling him a c*** 😂
Good thought on the overlapping universes. Won't say if you're right or not, but that's not a place most peoples' heads would go. And yeah, this is easily one of the best season openers in the modern show. Donna being an established character that everyone was happy to see again immediately helped a lot, but it's still a strong, low-stakes and fun outing to shows off the dynamic with the companion perfectly.
What are you thankful for this thanksgiving? Emme's reactions for this guy. It's one of my favorite episodes too. I could see you owning a little squishy adipose. I'm pretty sure they do sell them.
