Thanks guys! Maybe the most amazing thing to me (knowing Tuomas&Johanna like 30 years) was that Tuomas made and paid everything for this album and videos totally by him self from his own pocket with out any record company deal, just because this was his dream.
Coincidentally, yesterday, I spent time working in the yard while listening to this album. The Johannas (the other lady is Johanna Iivanainen) have a project called Altamullan Road. Also a new Auri album is in mixing and final production. Tuomas, Troy, and Johanna spent last year recording it, as they couldn't tour. The Guitar in this and Banjo in other tunes is played by Mikko Iivanainen, Johanna Iivanainen's hubby. Troy from Nightwish also plays on the album. The guy drawing is Don Rosa who did the Scrooge comics and there is a box set of them that inspired this album. I've got a copy of it, . Tuomas told Don he was going to do this and Don was a bit bemused, and some time later Tuomas contacted him that they were starting recording with the London Phil and then sent him a preliminary recording for him. Don didn't know what to expect (Some metal guy he never heard of said he was going to write songs about Scrooge? What do you expect?) and said by the second song he was in tears at the beauty, and then said he'd do the artwork for the album. The Disney Ducks are quite popular in Finland it seems.
Tuomas has said that Don Rosa's Eisner Award winning Scrooge graphic novel that this album is based on is perhaps his all time favorite work of fiction.

Tuomas also has a side group called Auri also with his wife and Troy from Nightwish. Have not got a song to recommend as I have only hear one song but I enjoyed it and cannot remember title of that one. I guess that’s what happens when you get into your 70’s. Tuomas has said in interview that whenever he read Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck (one of his favorite stories as a young person) that he could always hear the music that needed to accompany it, in his head. This album is the long awaited effort behind those brainstorms. The whole album is fantastic, sometimes plays on loop in my truck for weeks! Cheers all!
I own several art books of Don Rosa: the art is fantastic. Don Rosa is a household name really here in Finland: if you don't know who he is, that's a bit strange. The weekly Donald Duck cartoon magazine (Aku Ankka in Finnish) has been published since 1951 and is the most popular weekly publication in the country: practically every kid grows up reading it. Most of the stories revolve around Donald Duck's family, Mickey Mouse is a nobody in here. Them art books are then a few steps up from the weekly magazine, although some of the stories have been printed in the magazines too. So, just about everyone in Finland is glad about the song and the love shown to Don Rosa.
The sad thing is that almost no one in his home country, the US, knows who Don Rosa is. He has said in interviews that when he has attended conventions in the US perpaps ten people wanted to meet him, but when he goes to Europe, and particularily Scandinavia, droves of people stand in line for hours just to get his autograph.
When I originally ran across this video I was elated. Tuomas/Don Rosa together? Yes please! Johanna singing? Definitely hauntingly beautiful! The gentleman creating the art shown during the video is Don Rosa. Mr. Rosa wrote and illustrated The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck. It gives the entire life story of Scrooge, his loves, his friends, and his adventures as he searched for his riches...a biography of sorts if you will that explains so much of why he is who he is. Honestly, it is a masterpiece. The Ducks are a HUGE cultural phenomena in Finland/Europe and have become ingrained into the lives of many there. I can't really hear this song without tearing up. I too love the comic that this is based upon, and this is a worthy tribute to it. Anyone that don't think comics can be pieces of art, have never picked up The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck.

The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck is a good story at any age. Follows him from child hood into old age in a Citizen Kane like manner. Coming of age, hero's journey, falling into greed and loosing what's truely precious because of it.
To be fair, the real Scrooge McDuck is very different to the "Disney" of today. The Life & times is from Don Rosa who was the second of the big Disney McDuck artists and he wanted to fill in the backstory for Scrooge.
The whole Album is fantastic and Tuomas told in an interview that "The last sled" is his favourite. If you ever read the graphic novel you will have a ready made soundtrack for a full sense experience

Here in Norway there is a weekly edition of a Donal Duck comic magazine with stories of Donald, Scrooge and the rest. Think from my time as a child we had every magazine for 13-14 years. People who read the comics during their youth often have their favourite drawing artist. Coincidentally, the stories about Scrooge's life are my favourites.
You'll love The Last Sled from this album too. Then check out AURI, his side band with Johanna and Troy. Their first album is magnificent and the second out is due any time.
The other singer was Johanna Iivanainen whose husband Mikko is the guitarist. The two Johanna's have their own musical project Altamullan Road. By the way you should have a listen to Eivor Palsdottir singing Monster, it is an amazing performance!

I think you did an Auri track, Tuomas's other project with Johanna and Troy. I adore the whole album, but the track "Desert Flower", primarily sung by Troy, moves me to tears. Another stand out track on the Scrooge album is "The Last Sled".

Very few americans know the comic version and Carl Barks and Don Rosas works in particular but you made it work anyway.
This is such a sublime way of paying respects to a master whose work you admire. Here is an interview of Don Rosa by the Finnish Donald Duck "Aku Ankka" editors: watch?v=155akHOh9Ds . This interview took place a few years before the Holopainen's project. This brilliant, sweet artist is much loved in Finland, even by people who haven't spent much time reading Aku Ankka (such as myself). The Finnish translations of the Duck comics are of high quality, relishing the richness of the Finnish language - often bringing in nyances of humour beyond the original text. The quality of the editorial work is well recognized here, and reading Aku Ankka is considered beneficial for the development of a child's linguistic skills. Moreover, I've seen a few special editions of specific Donald Duck stories translated to various unique regional dialects of the Finnish language. The Ostrobothnian Donald sure has certain extra attitudinal spice to his output. Don Rosa also visited Finland around the release of this album and did a bunch of interviews together with Tuomas. The beautiful voice of Johanna Kurkela, his wife, fits perfectly to both songs. But the other songs of the album are also not bad.
Beautiful song, love their voices. Johanna's singing sounds very breathy when needed, then soft and both harmonize perfectly . Of course Tuomas is a modern day musical genius imo. Okei. Little facts. In Finland are Donald Duck a much bigger thing then Mickey Mouse. Almost every one hu have been child in the 70's, 80's and 90's has been reading Donald Duck magasines. And then to this Music. Don Rosa (the old guy that is drawing in the video) have done two comic boks that are named The Life Time Of Scrooge McDuck 1 and 2. And Tuomas did this hole album inspired of them. In the Album. Alan Reid is the voice of Scrooge. And the Singers are Johanna Kurkela ( Tuomas Wife), Johanna Iivanainen and in one song Tony Kakko ( friend of Tuomas and the singer of Sonata Arctica). Also in the Album are Troy Donockley and plays some of the instruments. My favorit song of the album are Cold heart of the Klondike
Hey Mike, put some oil to door hinges ;) If you have WD-40 or similar it is easier with spray tube but if not, then olive oil will do but only trickier to use. Don't use oil much, have some soaking paper available to avoid droppings and move door back and forward while oiling.

Not a Nightwish fan by any means, but this was a very nice song and a very beautiful and engaging video, the kind that you sort of can't NOT watch. I think I might have requested this one before, but I'd love for you to check out Swedish artist Ionnalee (and also her band Iamamiwhoami some day). A good starting point to get to know her wonderful voice might be the live version of "Dunes Of Sand", a stripped down version recorded in an (almost) empty church, the place where she once began singning as a child. That entire album is amazing. The story of making it is also incredible. This isn't really disney as much as it is just Don Rosa.

This is such a sublime way of paying respects to a master whose work you admire. Here is an interview of Don Rosa by the Finnish Donald Duck "Aku Ankka" editors: watch?v=155akHOh9Ds . This interview took place a few years before the Holopainen's project. This brilliant, sweet artist is much loved in Finland, even by people who haven't spent much time reading Aku Ankka (such as myself).
The Finnish translations of the Duck comics are of high quality, relishing the richness of the Finnish language - often bringing in nyances of humour beyond the original text. The quality of the editorial work is well recognized here, and reading Aku Ankka is considered beneficial for the development of a child's linguistic skills. Moreover, I've seen a few special editions of specific Donald Duck stories translated to various unique regional dialects of the Finnish language. The Ostrobothnian Donald sure has certain extra attitudinal spice to his output.

Great choice A Lifetime of Adventure, I would recommend for your comments also The Last Sled as second video from the album The Life and Times of Scrooge, this Disney project album from Tuomas Holopainen. The beautiful voice of Johanna Kurkela, his wife, fits perfectly to both songs. But the other songs of the album are also not bad.

Okei. Little facts. In Finland are Donald Duck a much bigger thing then Mickey Mouse. Almost every one hu have been child in the 70's, 80's and 90's has been reading Donald Duck magasines.
And then to this Music. Don Rosa (the old guy that is drawing in the video) have done two comic boks that are named The Life Time Of Scrooge McDuck 1 and 2.
And Tuomas did this hole album inspired of them.
In the Album. Alan Reid is the voice of Scrooge. And the Singers are Johanna Kurkela ( Tuomas Wife), Johanna Iivanainen and in one song Tony Kakko ( friend of Tuomas and the singer of Sonata Arctica). Also in the Album are Troy Donockley and plays some of the instruments.
My favorit song of the album are Cold heart of the Klondike

If you have WD-40 or similar it is easier with spray tube but if not, then olive oil will do but only trickier to use. Don't use oil much, have some soaking paper available to avoid droppings and move door back and forward while oiling.

Not a Nightwish fan by any means, but this was a very nice song and a very beautiful and engaging video, the kind that you sort of can't NOT watch. I think I might have requested this one before, but I'd love for you to check out Swedish artist Ionnalee (and also her band Iamamiwhoami some day). A good starting point to get to know her wonderful voice might be the live version of "Dunes Of Sand", a stripped down version recorded in an (almost) empty church, the place where she once began singning as a child.
