- Tyler the Creator has nabbed his first Grammy, taking home the prize in the category of Best Rap Album for his 2019 tour de force “IGOR.” The project is Tyler’s sixth and most critically acclaimed studio album, and it represents a new milestone in his career as a writer, rapper, and producer. To uncover the genius of “IGOR,” all you have to do is unpack the rich tapestries of sound on a song like “EARFQUAKE.” That’s what we did with a visit to Neal Pogue, Tyler the Creator’s go-to mixing engineer. Neal Pogue has worked with Tyler on his last three projects - “IGOR,” “Flower Boy,” and the “Grinch” soundtrack.

😭😭😭
I love the vibe around the man interviewed in the studio, he seems like a translator for tyler’s mind.
Barnacle Boy his name is Neal it literally says so in the video
Nope. Tyler puts his mind directly into his production. The dude in the studio just took his experience into this
fried stuff Guess ur the translator for tyler’s mind
Tyler’s songs are not like anything I’ve ever heard before. He’s mad creative
Wait a minute, this ain't genius...
Lmao jus noticed
Omg

i feel like Tyler's music isn't really fitting with the rap genre , most of the lyrics were sung. His music is also not that close to what the pop genre is , there should be a whole new genre for this type of music.
Edit~ thx for the likes everyone 😁
I think we all agree Tyler definitely incorporates different elements from different genres in this album, Makin in it somewhat multi genre , he’s definitely a genius 😩
Yousra Khalid it can be blues or jazz. those genres aren’t popular anymore
In his interview after, he was talking about how kinda racist the Grammys are because they assumed black people just make hip hop/rap
I feel like this was more of a soul and rnb album then his other rap albums.
Ngl when I listened to this album I got major Motown vibes. Definitely r&b tho
I call it town
I cannot stress how complicated and complex Tyler’s music can be. It’s big brain stuff
FINALLY A VIDEO SHOWING HOW MUCH A SONG IS MADE BY THE MIX engineers are underated asf thank you for the video!!! Im an audio engineer myself so this means alot

Good
"BREAKING DOWN EARFQUAKE"
Video: so this song has basses, chords, and vocals
And they are mixed.
But hey, they did a really great job at explaining what a "mixer" is😂👌
That’s what I was thinking, this was more like a tutorial on how to mix literally any album
Thats actually what video is for. Its not 'explained'. Its a song breakdown meaning how different instruments, vocals etc came together
@@mahirmalde8634 dude I don't think people need a video to know that shit. When I think about song breakdowns I think of stuff that's very particular to the song for ex the chord progressions, the synth melodies and the creative process involved in a song. The stuff said in this vid is very general and you can apply it to literally any album out there. The talk with the mixer was cool tho
urban is the politically correct way to say the n word
Ronald Camasura ?
@@blakebackes Tyler said this in an interview and it is talking about how Black artists are pigeonholed into genres like "urban" to not be placed into pop etc
@@TheHappybunny671 It would be a complete stretch to call Tyler's music "pop", though. Despite how much he wishes it was.
Rob Radical it’s pop. It’s just not mainstream pop. There’s a difference.
@@cristianromero2214 The literal definition of pop music requires it to be "commercial". None of Tyler's music is particularly commercial.

So happy for Tyler. He works so hard and I’m glad he’s getting recognized

*Asmodeus, Purson and Beelzebub: WHO SUMMONED US?!?!?!*
each layer on its own is beautiful. put them together and you get pure art.
Y'all gonna ignore his hairstyle tho?
Edit : i mean Neal Pogue's hairstyle not tyler's hairstyle
Perdana Rifqi yes
nope. i can't ignore it. it has totally taken over the whole thing. i will never be able to listen to this song now without seeing this guys hair.
It's the friendliest hair I've ever seen
pretty much
I like it cause it distinguishes him from other music producers
Neal’s voice sounds like Pharrell’s voice 😂
Kimo identical
Kimo lol wtf
literally all I could think while watching, its exactly the same
Yeah, I think was Pharrell at first ahahah
Now knowing that Tyler produces his own music made me instantly have so much more respect for his work
Album of the year. One of the best albums of the decade. Igor deserves to become a cult album. Tyler deserves to be the father of a genre.
It's a shame the person making this knows nothing about producing though. It's a cool video, it's definetely interesting hearing all the different parts of the song on their own and some of the producer's input. But it seems like she doesn't really have any point. Like, she explained what equalization is when she was talking about the bass, but doesn't say anything about how the bass was equalized, or what approach of equalizing they took in the album. She just states that equalizing is a thing. It seems like the video acts like some of those in depth videos about music you can find on TH-cam, but it's a really shallow version of those.
the video is just stretched out for 10 mins
You're right, it's not very deep, but these videos are mostly meant for casual listeners and laymen to give a brief overview of shit so they can have slightly better understanding of everything that goes into making a record. I'd go watch production and sound engineering masterclasses (tons of free talks and interviews on TH-cam alone, often by people who had a hand in working on your favourite records) if you're looking for more in-depth knowledge, 'cause you're never gonna find it in these kinds of videos. These are just 'huh, pretty neat' and move on with your day kind of videos.
@@vishnurajan6313 I get your point. There are lots of channels, though, like Adam Neely, Tentacrul, David Bennet, aswell as the Genius Deconstructed series and many more that actually bring the artistic perspective behind specific projects. It's very different to a Master Class, though, it's not supposed to be teaching you how to produce, but rather talk about the production of that specific work.
In the Deconstructed series, they even with the producers and sound engineers, just like this video, but its much more in depth
As someone who knows nothing about mixing, I found this video extremely interesting and was not bored throughout it all. I loved when they put examples what they were talking about.
Igor: Isn't a rap album
Tyler: Wins best rap album award in Grammy's
Also Tyler: Flames Grammy's for giving him best rap album award, because Igor isn't a rap album.
4:31 even insider has no idea what carti is trying to say
Should’ve done ”The Making Of Igor”
The song still sounds good even when Tyler’s voice isn’t pitched so high
The synth,the bass I’m crying
The process was actually much longer than most people think. Carti was very dedicated, enrolling himself in school again and hiring many private tutors in order for him to become fluent in speaking and rapping in cursive just for this verse.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Was this a beat breakdown or a internet money tutorial
there’s no difference

This is better than genius's deconstructed honestly they go more into the details of the song than some of the other producers on genius using grossbeat on a sample and half timing it and call it a day

This is the important video to watch, you can tell theres so much stuff going on, feel so happy for Tyler for winning, this guy is a genius in sound engineering.
I think you spelled "Carti's lyrics cannot be transcended" wrong.
random but about over a month after earfquake came out, i was in LA and saw tyler at GOLF. A few hours later a 7.1 earthquake hit LA.
Rip flower boy. I'd rather not say the whole thing even though writing is longer than if I just put the whole name.
6:48 YES! Now I have a way to describe this. Music from Tyler or Tame Impala are such headphone candy. I always tell people who listen to them for the first time to make sure they use headphones for the best effect. I may sound crazy but if they don't, they're REALLY missing out.

Tyler the creator master the art of Subtlety and Dynamics and that's what makes Igor so good.
This is a joke, doesn’t show how the beat was made at all. Just common production and mixing strategies.
Well maybe they don't want YOU to copy the beat so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ get your facts right
What a backhanded compliment... getting a rap album Grammy for an album that wasn't a rap album.. (just basing myself on what Tyler said of the album and his speech after receiving the grammy)
