    Guys. Kit lens for video. The 18-55 because it has OIS. For video this is a great lens, but its average for photos. Which is why I use the 35 f1.4 for that.

  • @ThereGoesSpider
    @ThereGoesSpider 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mr. Wilson... I have watched so many X-T20 videos and comparing them to X-T3 ones. Why oh why does this little X-T20 seems so much more film-like? It's so much more cinematic than the X-T3. Could it be the difference with the X Trans3 sensor and X Trans4? I have the budget for either... but my goodness this X-T20 looks soooo different and soooo filmic. Any thoughts since you've used this camera? Perhaps my eyes deceive me, or I am going crazy? :)

    • @AdamWilson1983

      Hello. Very kind of you to say firstly. So I think you may just he swayed by the content of this video itself, this was the first thing I made with my xt20. I'm an experienced photographer, but at the time was a very inexperienced videographer. I just got lucky with great content. You'll capture cleaner files with the xt3 I'm sure, but I've heavily edited this footage to get it how I wanted. That being said, I wish I had access to Fuji's Eterna profile for simple quick videos, this seem to strike the balance between raw and straight out of the camera good. Message me if you want more details

    There are a lot of pictures that are not really 4K, so when you enlarge the quality of that image you can tell without the definition that the other clips provide you if they are 4K. I could see a couple of pictures where the color correction of the same scene varies. It's good to see someone take advantage of the Ultra Wide look, but there are many details.

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No shit man. It's called editing.

      @@AdamWilson1983
      Shit? shit is that you justify the deficiencies of your content with an excuse so stupid as to say: It's called editing. Editing is not uploading a video in 4k, modifying the scale of a video that is clearly not 4k, editing is not that in the same scene the contrast and range levels vary. Learn better to edit, learn better to color and learn that it is useless to upload videos in 4k if all your material is not 4k. And learn to receive comments that are giving you something, because then the shit, in addition to your edition, is your attitude.

    Did you upscale the footage from 1080p to 4k in post? Because you have a lot of slomo in your footage and in 4K the camera is only capable to film 30fps. So I wonder how you got such great slowmo footage while maintaining 4k.
    Also, which film simulation mode did you apply? Had any issues in post with color grading due to the lack of log files with this camera?
    I am wondering since I am doubting to buy this camera. Thanks in advance! And great video btw! :)

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Sven Let me explain.
      I shoot a combination of 24p and 30p in 4k, and 60p in HD. I conform all of this to a 24p timeline, so 30p at 80% speed, and 60p at 40‰ speed. I do need to upscale the 60p footage to fit the 24p 4k timeline though.
      No film simulations, just standard. This is the 'flattest' profile. I also set my Highlights, Shadows, and sharpening to -2.
      It's not quite log footage but it still works pretty well. To further it I run a log simulation Lut in my Technical Adjustment Layers in Premier Pro to the full timeline to level the footage out more.
      This way I've got a nice clean start for colour grading. Which I won't get into here but you get the idea.
      Check out my Croatia video too!

    • @svenweer
      @svenweer 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Adam, I'm so torn now. I have an X-T1 and I absolutely love it but I really want a better capable camera for video, which is why I'm looking into the X-T20. Though I haven't purchased enough primes to say I'm committed to the X mount, I was planning on buying the 16mm F1.2 down the road. I truly wish Fuji had IBIS for video though. Do you think I should just stay with Fuji or bite the bullet and switch to Sony (a6500)? Everybody is also welcome to comment. Thanks!

    • @Jaderlund
      @Jaderlund 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think the X-T2 would be better to compare the A6500 with as they are in the same price range, wheras the X-T20 is like the a6300. Fuji definetly has the better kit lens with the 16-55 f2.8-4 and if you are not planning on buying converters or putting full frame lenses on the sony, the X-mount offers more nice glass at a better price and size if traveling. I did alot of research before buying the X-T20, mostly comparing with the a6300 and found the design of the Fuji and lens selection more appealing, but lacking some of the video features of the a6300 (s-log and slightly better AF in video). I don't do that much video yet, but I got the Peak Design mirrorless strap for it. Use it as a shoulder strap, push the camera out so you have tention on the strap . BAM! Instant stadycam ;-) Should work with any strap though.

    Hey, nice video! Quick question since I'm leaving to Vietnam myself. DId you have any problems with the humidity and the camera ? Since the XT20 is not weather sealed .... :/

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wanderlust na. Humidity won't be a problem. Weather sealing is more for rain, or frost. The only problems I had was leaving air conditioned rooms into the heat which fogged my lens up.

    Love the content and how the story was told on this film, wonder what color grading software have you used in here, or was it color corrected and graded in Premiere pro without plugins?

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      All Premiere. My first grade. It's powerful enough for most uses.

      @2greenhorn 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      great FCPX has some limitation when it comes to color grading i mean it's great editing software but when someone wish to learn how to color grade one must install some plugins or LUT from other source . thanks much for the reply sir.

      Arasaw Tumpaak AWA There are luts on here. But coming from photography, these are really just glorified presets. All the work goes into the correction.

    hey mate, great pics! what frame rate do you shoot at, and what shutter speed do you set? being from Australia i'd use 25p or 50p... but there is no /150 or 1/100 shutter speed on the dial :)

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tai Tran 24 fps for simplicity, and I just stuck to 60 on the shutter speed. I know that's not exactly the 180 rule but it's just a guide. Rules are mean to be broken. At 60fps in shot at 125.

    • @tait8900
      @tait8900 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      love the rule breaking resulting in your awesome footage. Btw i worked it out, you can use the jog dial to adjust the SS to 100 or 50 to meet the 180degree rule :)

    did you record in flog? if not, what profile did you use?

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's no LOG profile on this camera. Shot in 'Standard'. Sharpening -4, highlights -2, shadows -2. But its all been colour corrected and graded afterwards.

    Just to clarify, was a drone used for the opening sequence? Or was the entire video filmed on the XT20?

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Brightstar no drone here. This was filmed on a boat. All one camera. Is is a stunning little camera

    Oh boy i just saw the images of your trip... the colours blow my fucking mind..... my god its soooo god. did you do these colors in post or did you get them from the in camera in boild film looks? thank you keep it up!

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for comment. I spent a lot of time on those images. To be honest you can get great colour directly out of the Fuji Cameras, but I've been editing images longer than I've been taking pictures. So I went through all of those in Lightroom. Took a few days but it was three weeks worth of images.

      The Colors are really awesome... i wanted to wait for the xt2s but i consider buying a xt20 with good lense like the 23mm. Might it be possible to get 2 or 3 Raws to see how they behave in lightroom? currently i have a old canon 600d. If you dont want to give your raws i totally understand! Thank you for reply by the way :)

    this is great. Is the slowed down stuff 1080 60fps or is it all 4k? What editing software did you use?

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Thomas. Two setups here. 4k 24fps, and 1920 60fps. The XT20 only offers 60fps, for my needs I think I'd have missed a lot of scenes by having 120fps or higher. Sometimes too many options is bad thing. All done in Premiere Pro.

      Thanks, these cameras seem amazing. I'm very close to buying one and tbh video isn't too important to me anyway. Vietnam looked amazing, rather jealous of your trip...

    • @AdamWilson1983

      BBartek TH-cam itself is the best resource. I've just watched a load of tutorials. But I have been a designer for around 15 years so it rubs off.

    Beautiful images and video. I assume the 35 was used in most of your pictures?
    What were you using for stabilization?

    • @AdamWilson1983
      @AdamWilson1983  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mick Rome yeah most of the images are the 35mm. Only a few use this 18-55. Nothing for stabilisation, just steady hands and practise
