I appreciate this feedback, I’m currently training physically and mentally to join the Air Force for cyber security. Lost 70 pounds from being 300, need to be 180! Definitely appreciate the reassurance that enough hard work will get the job done, especially from someone that looks just like me.

I absolutely loved Tech school. I was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Aurora Colorado. I was there during the fall and winter. Me and some buddies went hiking in the Rocky Mountains, hiking along the continental divide trail and snow skiing and all the major snow resorts. We would rent a Chevy suburban and pile in and go to a different adventure every weekend.

@@free-n2m Tech school taught me a lot but it definitely could be better. There is so much of it that I never have used and don't think I ever will and a lot of the information is not really explained in depth. You will expected to remember A LOT for the tests but most of them aren't too hard as long as you just make sure to study and remember the basic facts. Sec+ was pretty hard though, I recommend watching a video called 10 hour sec plus cram. It helped me quite a bit. Once you get out of tech school you will most likely have to relearn a lot of things and you will be doing tons of stuff you have never learned at all. Overall Cyber for me hasn't been too hard, but it really depends on what you are doing. There's some very hard and confusing parts of this job that I have no idea on what to do and there's other pretty easy parts that I feel like I am pretty confident on. You will most likely learn way more once you are out of tech school so just try and get what you can out of it and pass the tests.

Thank you Airman! I’m a very curious grandparent just curious to know what tech school is like. Just yesterday my granddaughter left for a different base, she’ll be doing something very different, but your video was extremely helpful. I watched some videos made by people going to tech school on the base where she is. To be kind, I’ll say it this way; your video is so so so much more professional and well done and pertinent. I’ve subscribed to your channel bc I want to see more of your videos and I believe that some of your info is general enough to apply to any tech school experience, like the financial video that you spoke of. • @dillonjohnlane
      @dillonjohnlane 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@francisaquino1387 There might be other tech/IT/cyber jobs in the space force but no as far as I know there's about 5 different ones for the basic Air Force.
      3D1X2: Cyber Transport Systems
      (general IT, more hardware oriented)
      3D0X2: Cyber Systems Operations
      (general IT, more software oriented)
      1B4X1: Cyber Warfare Operations
(more advanced, have to retrain into this one, not available for fresh recruits)
      3D0X4: Computer Systems Programming
(programming, requires you take an extra test instead of just the ASVAB, it's called the EDPT, your recruiter should be able to schedule it for you.
      3D0X3: Cyber Surety
(cyber security, but in practice it's a paper pusher job, making sure things comply with regulations rather than working with computers directly)
That's concerning that your recruiter told you that, they can't be expected to know every job inside and out but cyber is a pretty big part of the Air Force, weird that they would tell you that.

I found your video fun to see thinking of my Dad who attended tech school at Keesler many years ago. He enlisted ti the Army Air Corps / Air Force when he turned 18 in 1944 in electronics communications and was in the Air Force 1944-1958. . He left as a Tech Sgt but know his goal had been Master Sgt but my mom wanted him to leave instead of relocating to Germany. When I was 5 I lived with just my mom in 1957-1958 when he deployed to Newfoundland for a year. My Dad's first year long assignment was in China in 1946 after the war and I have pictures of him working with the Chinese to help in the rebuilding of Shanghai. I have his pictures of bombed out Shanghai. I also found this video interesting since 5 years ago I retired from a 45 year career in IT information technology. I met 5 retired Air Force IT techs from nearby Scott Air Force base who joined our firm and they did well. They had good careers with us as did my Dad in his field when he left the Air Force. I recommend you take as many IT related courses you can and get certifivations similar to what has worked out well for my our son. Wish you the best and thank you for your service.

@@Zaneika Our son Keith actually first went to an in town branch of the University of Missouri and was a major in Information Systems Management set up more for becoming a programmer like I had mostly been or a system analyst. However, after going to a four year college, he really went all out in the community college for a year and a half which cost much less money and took courses in security, and networking which was not my field at all but I got in to some when I later on became an IT audtor. I was never an expert in networking or security and was that was more like class learing only. By networking I mean laying out the cables and wi-fi etc and servers. The bottom line though of taking his classes was that you still needed to pass the certification test (SOMETHING CALLED A+ maybe) and that became his job. Our kids went public but I did pay for their college for our son and 2 daughters but it was a state school in town without paying for room and board. Our 2 daugthers went first to a community college for the basics and became teachers . Hopefully even after you leave the Air Frorce you can get good reimbursement for studying if you need to in a school. i do not like the idea of big student loan debt for an education so think your route is really good. The Air Force sure worked out well for my Dad. I remember after he had left the Air Force we visited his Air Force buddy and his famlly once a year at nearby Scott Air Force base each summer. He stayed in for the duration.

With the military there are a lot of unknowns, deployment,TDYs and special duties that could distract one from focusing purely on an IT career, especially if you don't get an IT job in the military. It depends on how bad you want something & the work you can put in to get it on either side. I can't honestly say I've learned more in my job bc there has been so many other military interruptions, so for this i can say if you have the means going to school for IT while maybe doing a part time entry level it job. However if you join & do get a IT job, get IT certs on the militarys dime youll be fine...

I would recommend going for the guard if you do not want to wait because sometimes you get to choose your jobs. Sometimes, if you have a good recruiter, you can tell the recruiter which job you want and he will call you if that job drops. I would recommend for security plus not A+.

The Air Force now requires a 71 on the EDPT to qualify for cyber jobs, which is a specialty test that you’ll take at MEPS. It was pretty difficult considering there isn’t a real way to study for it, but I paid $80 for practice tests on JobTestPrep and it somewhat prepared me for it
