What's a Cherimoya Fruit? Join Leilani, a young kiwi backyard loving kid on her garden adventures. In this video she delves into information around the tree, pruning and tasting notes.
Brilliant video Leilani. My niece's name is also Leilani. I learnt some cool facts from your video. Thanks for passing on your knowledge in an easy and informative way. Looking forward to more of your videos in the future! 🍈
Hi Leilani, I loved watching your first video. Your video was full of interesting information, and I learned so much! When is it the best time of year to plant a cherimoya? How many different fruit trees do you have at home? I can't wait to watch your next video. I'm sure the children in Room 3 would like to see your video, too, if you'd like to share it when we're back at school. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. 😊
Hello Simone! Spring is the best time to plant seeds unless you have a heat mat. I don't know how many fruit trees we have. Lots! Three cherimoya though. I hope my friends like it!
Thank you for the awesome video Leilani! I love cherimoya, we saw them in Peru and thought they looked weird and bought some. We were so surprised at how delicious they were. We can't find them since we left Peru but we are happy to learn we can grow them in New Zealand. I'll have to try a mangosteen when I go to Asia! Good luck on your TH-cam channel! 🎉
How awesome! Thanks for sharing all that great info. It’s encouraging that they grow in NZ but maybe not as far down as Palmerston North? My favourite fruit is the mangosteen too!!! But I only had one in Bali and didn’t know you could get them in NZ. You know lots about fruit Leilani 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for watching. Our friend gave us a care package with mangosteen in it. I loved it. I think you could get a cherimoya fruiting in Palmerston North. Lots of sun, facing north and good soil should work.
Sumptuous work Leilani! My favourite fruit is also Mangosteen. Would be keen to try this one, when are you starting up a nationwide Cherimoya delivery service? also very interesting fact about how the flowers become males in the afternoon! Looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Leilani! I had no idea that Cherimoya trees have both male and female parts! Do you know if you can do any baking/cooking with cherimoya fruit?
We love this! So interesting and I did not know about using a pint brush to help make fruit! Please could you make one about another fruit tree, we are going to plant some but don’t know which ones to plant and this would really help us know what is out there. Lots of love Madeleine, Aoife and Saoirse in Australia xxx
Thank you for watching. What kind of fruit tree would you like me to do? I like doing rare plants. In Australia you have lots of options to grow cool things. Hopefully we can visit one day.
Hi Lisa. Dad says HI! They don't go true to seed but all fruit taste so good. Getting a grafted one is good though because you get great fruit all the time.
Kia Ora Leilani, well done on an informative and interesting video! I am wondering how I would go about propagating a Cherimoya tree and what kind of conditions it would like to grow in? Looking forward to your next video! 😊X
Thank you for watching. Cherimoya trees like good sunlight and warm weather. You live in a great place to grow one. You can grow them easily from seed but they take around ten years to fruit. Buying a grafted variety gives you good fruit in about three years. I have some seeds if you want some.
Great stuff cuz! Howdy from Brisbane across the ditch, if your Dad ever brings you to Queensland Australia hit us up for a tour, I grow a few hundred fruit trees and am involved in a local fruit club so know plenty of great home orchards to visit. I like mangosteen as well, but prefer the tartness of an achacha, one of mine fruited for the first time last year, man was i excited! Keep up the great work.
@LeilanisWonderland achacha is a garcinia in the same family as mangosteen. There are so many tasty garcinias, I keep collecting more all the time. I did a video about 6 months ago on my channel about my achacha, the videos are just a hobby as I work full time.
Hi Leliani, I loved your video! Can you tell me how many cherimoya I can eat at once before feeling ill? I would also like to request a video on plums when the time is right!
Hi Uncle Plum! Ofcourse you asked a question about eating, you are always hangry! I'd recommend not eating more than 1-2 a day! You might get an upset tummy.
Thank you for watching. I hope you get to try one soon! Mangosteen are delicious but they need very tropical weather to grow. Not good for New Zealanders.
Loved watching this Leilani! Cherimoya is my favourite favourite fruit! Is it exactly the same as a custard apple? Or are they a little different? I eat mine with lime too. Kristen (with her mid 2000s emo TH-cam name tag) x
Thank you for watching. Markets call lots of Annona fruit 'custard apple' even though they are different fruits. Sugar apple, cherimoya, soursop etc often just get called that which is weird because they are different fruit. They even taste very different!
Thank you for watching. I love Jaboticaba. I recently drove up to KeriKeri as there is a great tree there but the fruit were not ripe yet. I have two trees in my garden that are ten years old. I hope they will have fruit soon.
@@LeilanisWonderland you are welcome. If you visit Wharepuke in Kerikeri around Jan-March, you have a good chance of finding fruit to taste. Great to hear that you have a couple well on their way. Well done Mom and Dad for encouraging this journey!
Hello. Thanks for watching! No our main tree is a very very old seed grown one. The previous owners chopped it down because it never had fruit. Dad and I let it sprout back and got over forty fruit this year with hand pollinating.
@@LeilanisWonderland nice! My cherimoya also doesn't produce a single fruit without hand pollination. Only my sugarapples do, but very few on their own.
Thank you for watching. I think using a small pot with seed raising mix works well. I put mine on a heat pad and kept them wet and they popped up easily!
Hello Alon. Grafted trees make consistent fruits but seed grow trees have yum fruits too. They take a very very long time to fruit though so grafted trees are better. I like the sorbet I made with dad.
Awesome video Leilani….I learnt a lot…keep up the great work…nice to see a young person loving fruit☺️
Thank you for watching my video!
What an informative video, I loved it. I'm glad you told us what your favourite fruit is. I was wondering!😀😀😀
I love mangosteen. I wish we could grow it here!
wow thank you for sharing your knowledge i wish I could try one !
Look out for them, you might find them called Custard Apples

Love it! Keep up the good work!. Don’t feel bad :). Cherimoya’s not my favorite fruit either. Can’t wait for a follow up video on mangosteen.
Thanks for watching. Can't wait to have some mangosteen again!

The taste sure is a surprise. Let me know when you are back in New Zealand and I can tell you some nurseries to order a good grafted variety.

Leilani, What I'm wondering is if a fruit salad can be made using cherimoya and mangosteen, or if it would be better to make a smoothie
Thank you for watching. That would be a yummy fruit salad but cherimoya is quite soft when ripe. I think a smoothie would be yummy.

Hi Leilani! What does it taste like when the cherimoya is overripe?
Thank you for watching. It tastes sickly sweet. Don't let them get too soft!
