    Only works in a country where goods cost way more than the price of labor to repair them. With the labor cost of those guys and the opportunity cost of doing that job they could of bought a new tire.

    • @FjordTrotter
      @FjordTrotter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A tire costs 6-8 months wages of a truck driver there. $500/yr is typical for someone working 60+ hrs a week, so they have to make the most of what they get.
      In central africa, the wages are down to $80-120/yr, so you will find drivers find their own solution to make trucks work.

      @@FjordTrotter thinking about this, something is not right here? If there not making more than that and are an owner operator, how do they pay for fuel, and ever buy a tire of any sorts, I'm sure a used rebuilt tire would be $100-200 if a new one costs the price you said. Tires wear out and have to be replaced. Let alone any other repair that's made.🤷

    I think, almost everything can be "brought to life" or restored, but tires are not one of those things. Here in my country, they sell reconditioned tires. Those are worn out tires with new layers applied on their surface, round and round. Even those only work for a short while (some people use it when they want to sell a car so that it looks like it has new tires) and I have seen many case when that entire new lier just flew off.
    So, restoring tires is not something that I would do considering the risks involved.

    • @jackmcslay
      @jackmcslay 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What they're doing is almost the same as th-cam.com/video/zBHhzznlcec/w-d-xo.html

    • @Mobiledotwww
      @Mobiledotwww 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@jackmcslay I drove once a car with refurbished tires. I was driving at about 140 Km ph when a heard a slap. I pulled over and sau that one of the tires was looking different than the others. It wasn't my car, so I didn't know that tire was refurbished. 250 m in front of me there was a bridge pillar. That explosion or whatever it was would have killed me if it happened 250 meters further, because the car jumped some 5 meters to the right. Or maybe I, involuntarily steered the wheel to the right, I don't know. SO guys, never use refurbished tires on your cars. They are not safe!

      Believe it or not, ALL JET AIRLINER TIRES ARE ' RETREADS ' ! Since the only part of a jet tire
      that gets worn out is the treaded outer layer, when they get a few flat spots after a number of
      landings, they are taken off the airplane, dismounted from the rim, and sent to a licensed,
      regulated tire re-treading facility to be rebuilt. This happens as many as ten times for each
      tire, and has been the standard practice for aircraft tires since before WW2 !

      I would think in this country the traffic on the roads is that crowded vehicles rarely exceed 35-40 mph, so in theory the centrifugal forces that could probably tear a re-tread apart at 90mph( on the less crowded roads and highways of a more developed country) would really be too much of a problem.
