  • Instruments are just tools to express ourselves ... Cheap things will give us a terrible sound quality, but Satch has enough talent to get the maximum potential of this gear

We can't see the rest of the gear, so I'm willing to bet it's not "magic", but the pedals he's using. A good gtr player will play well on almost any guitar, but that's different as saying the tone of the instrument changes for the better because there is more or less meat on Satch's fingertips

      i concur...💯
but...definitely at least get a mid level priced guitar and Monster Rock Cables...💯
i wholeheartedly recommend an Ibanez S model
i have a Ibanez S470 with EMG 81/89s and even though they are definitely not needed.....MAN THEY SOUND AND FEEL GREAT!!!
i respect anyone who prefers passive pickups (standard magnetic pickups)
even though i payed as much for the pickups as i did for my guitar....bout $500 with installation... the guitar was actually just under $500 when i got it many years ago think it's a 1999 or 2000 maybe...
but man....that wizard 2 neck and the Zero Resistance floating tremolo along with the double locking string mechanisms are just out of this world...💯
i understand each musician has different tastes as far as brand and style of guitars (which i totally respect)
but ive never played any guitar since that was as good as my ibanez s470.💯
funny story, i decided and bought my S model Ibanez waaay before i even knew Satriani plays S model Ibanezs
      ...💯
great minds think alike i suppose...

You don't need an expensive guitar but cheap guitars are usually harder to play and keep in tune, etc. Beginners should buy at least a mid-range priced guitar - it will be easier to play and less prone to getting frustrated learning chords. You can always resell it and get your investment back. Joe in this video can get away playing like that on a cheap guitar just because he has practiced so much he can compensate for the difficulty of playing a cheap guitar.

One of the fundamental things about being a solo-guitarist is creating your own unique sound. Witch comes from mixing amps, guitars, pickups, strings, picks etc. And ofc his techniques, witch includes the use of the whole instrument, such as the whammy bar, piching harmonics ect. His songs are based on those elements and without it its hard to play them as intended.
