    I currently own the 2023 year of this model and I can say it is a nearly perfect RV for couples. I see that there are some minor changes like the accessory hitch where I only have a bumper and some minor things like the lighting and they took away the audio system for 2024. I have towed it over 3000 miles so far with an F-150 and I have not yet found a similar model from any manufacturer that does as much as this Grand Design that would make me want another. I will confirm that in this summer heat, the AC system does a pretty good job although that front bedroom does get a bit warmer, however I did install a MaxxAir fan in there and tapped into the fam power from the bathroom to help keep the air moving.

I tow it with my 2018 F-150 3.5L Max Tow Package; Blue Ox equalizer. It tows wonderfully, even up huge hills i still have lots of pedal left.

    I LOVE this trailer!! I am planning to buy an RV in the near future for myself and I actually like this one better than 99% of the other ones I've seen. For one person it seems to be a good size inside. The length is a bit shorter than what I wanted but now that I've seen it I think I would be fine going shorter. The rear kitchen and front bedroom is a great idea and it's well planned out here. Two entries, yes! HUGE awning, yes! Amazing bathroom with a porcelain toilet, yes, yes, yes! I'm really taken with this one. As far as price, still in the doable range for me. And finding the best truck to tow it is my next step. Toyota tundra seems about the best option as well.
    I think you may have shown me EXACTLY what I'm looking for!
    If you do purchase this one be sure to keep us updated as I'll be watching to see how it goes!
    Thanks for sharing this with me!💜💜💜☮️💜💜💜

    We have the 2023. The Furrion AC did well this past summer. The hottest temps we experienced were at Lake Tawakoni in June...100 plus twmps and very high humidity.
    I purchased a wall mount fan for the bedroom, and installed it where the rv mount is.
    My wife can stretch out on the sofa, and i put the table and cushions down & snooze on the bed there.
    I wish ours had the dimmable light strips.
    Only downside has been the sliding door between living and bath. It has come off the track several times, but hopefully the last repair will hold.
    I plan on upgrading the roof fans to either rhe Maxx Air, or rhe Hengs.
    Our Ram 1500 tows it OK, but i did upgrade ro a heavier duty truck tire, and added Super Springs blue bump stops.

    We have the 2023 and it is an amazing unit. We tow with a 2006 Dodge Ram and it handles it beautifully!!! We did add the RoadActive Suspension RAS and it was totally worth the money. We live in Louisiana and have had no problem with the air conditioner. It is really nice since there is not 2 airs they did put a 1500 btu in it. The bedroom was our only problem and we put a fan up for that. Actually it is a full walk thru with the slide closed. It does not matter which door you go in.

    YES .. absolutely get an RV .. as an RV guy, it will do great things for you to experience the buy, the drive, the enjoyment, the stress, the questions, the working through the issues, and the making of the memories .. YES .. it will forever change the way u relate to ur customers .. my favourite towable RV is the Salem 27RK - it’s a little bigger than this but very similar layout, single slide same location, single mid entry door, king bed, WD prep; but more money and needs a bigger truck - strait up taking out the rear door moves the fridge over to that location and really helps with space - like I said tho, I will need a bigger vehicle .. so back at u .. do u think I’m crazy for liking that for myself ?? And more importantly, do u sell those??

    That is an exceptionally nice layout. I love it. Here's the thing we did is we over bought size wise because it's just me and my wife and went with the 2800BH. We love our camper big time because we wanted the outdoor kitchen and the extra storage of the BH model. But it is on the hairy edge of half ton towable. We have a 3/4 ton so we weren't worried about that aspect but still, that layout is amazing. If they had somehow put an outdoor kitchen in it, that would have been ours.

    We recently did a walkthrough of the camper a fell in love. Then, we saw it has a Schwintek slide, so it’s no longer on our list. Sad, because we loved the RV, other than the slide mechanism.

      I am brand new into looking to purchase a travel trailer. What is the problem with the slide out?

    • @jdoc67
      @jdoc67 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@crissychristensen1211 There are 3 primary types of mechanisms to move the slide in and out. Schwintek seems to have the most maintenance issues. It relies on two motors (one on each side of the slide) working in perfect harmony to move the slide in and out. You can tell if it’s a Shintech slide, because the slide has worm like gear rails on the top and bottom of each side of the slide. If you search for Schwintek slide on, TH-cam, you will probably find a number of videos that describe the problems that people have experienced. It’s just my opinion, but I believe that a rack & pinion slide mechanism is the best, followed by a cable driven slide, with Schwintek coming and third. We were just at the Tampa RV show today and talked to a few manufacturers that have moved away from Schwintek for 2024 and now have cable slide mechanisms

    • @radp8104
      @radp8104 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It being a bigger slide and using the Schwintek system is the issue, it will fail eventually and there's not a lot of options to replace it as fixing it will only happen again. Schwintek on a small bedroom ward slide is ok just not meant to be used on a big slideout. I really wanted to purchase this model as its the ultimate layout and half ton towable makes it really appealing, had to pass on it because of the Schwintek and also because of the improper plumbing with the flexible tubing mixed in with the fittings for Pex tubing guarantee to leak. So disappointed in GD for there reasoning to go with such poor uses of improper products as they could have had a superstar with this one.

Their layouts are the Best for storage and space for storage (our GD 17MKE is our 5th last camper and it really is now! 1st camper fits all our stuff - every other one i had to have totes and go in an out and in an out - made camping way to much of a chore with zero relaxation)

    I prefer this to the 24BSE. If you are going to get one I'm voting for the 23LDE. The only downside with these is YOU are going to have to do all of the microwaving as a normal person like your wife can't reach it. I like this bathroom set up better and there is a lot more storage in this one. This bedroom is also much nicer as the 24BSE bedroom seems to be so cramped and has almost no storage. You asked. I answered. Does my vote count?

    I tow a 26ft Micro Lite that is 5300lb empty with a base tongue weight of 660lbs. With my normal camping gear my trailer scaled at 6300lb and my loaded tongue weight was close to 900lbs. I was towing it with my 2019 Expedition Limited that has Max Towing and Max Cargo packages. It has a payload capacity of 1530lbs. I was uncomfortable running that close since it only left me with 630lbs of payload capacity for passengers and gear in the truck. I ended up finding a 2020 Ram 1500 that has 1735lbs of payload capacity. Now I feel I have adequate cushion on payload. Loved the Tundras. Great reliability and drive train. But I couldn't find one that had better payload than my Expedition.

    If it has the furrion ac then there is a mode called dry... And there is very little documentation on it, but what it basically does is it cycles the AC on for several minutes I think 9:00 to 12:00 or something like that I can't remember exact, and then it runs the fan and it cycles on and off on and off and we found that it is very very good at cooling the camper on hot days much better than just setting the thermostat and running the AC because it does a better job at keeping it cool once it gets cool.

    I just sold my 2970RL but if this model was available when I bought mine I would have bought the one you’re reviewing. Only discrepancy I can tell you without a doubt is that the bedroom storage is inadequate and hard to use based on the size and location. The storage above the bed is useless and the pull out drawers are big enough for socks and underwear that’s about it.

    This is a fantastic unit (almost perfect), but being a high end model, where is the back bumper, the solid steps and aphte outside kitchen or at least an outside grill???
    And if it’s a high end model (not a price point), why supply a crappie mattress? Supply it without so I can buy my own instead of paying for a crappie one and having to put it in the garbage weeks after buying it…
    But this is pretty much the nicest unit I’ve seen (and I’m shopping for a 23’ trailer).

    At first glance, I don't like those hatches with the twist locks, I prefer 'slam latches' I think they are called. From what I heard when talking to my rep (currently looking at trailers in this range) and he said those twist latches frequently break and don't have a long lifespan. From a few searches, it looks like this one may come in a little lower in price than the Alta I'm looking at but it seems to have better features. Another thing from walking into and out of a few acres of trailers, I can't stand those steps that are on this model you are considering, I greatly prefer the ones that have the adjustable legs that give you stable steps to climb.
    I'm looking at the Alta 2600KRB currently. Pretty sure it has solar, 2 batteries, 2x 30lbs propane tanks....may spend a little bit more for a bit higher end model if you plan on really spending some time in it. Another general observation I made is the counters, I highly recommend those counters that are solid, the ones that have the laminate tops with the edging, that edging was already separating on some of the models on the lot. I know sometimes some of these little things across the whole trailer add up to thousands more on the price, but in the end, if you are going to live in this part time for weeks at a time, opt for something that is going to stand up. Trailers are already going to have issues just from the vibrations and bumps getting hauled down the road.
    Good luck in whatever you decide. I'm also hauling with a half ton....it's paid off, so I'm very motivated to get something light that it can handle, but also durable and comfortable because I want to be able to live in mine for months at a time, as I can work remotely and want to take extended trips away from my home base.

    Buy a weight distribution hitch, also my 1500 has an 1800 pound payload and that camper would be pushing it for me. But i do pull a 7000 pound travel trailer just fine.

      Exactly my thoughts. I almost bought a Wildwood that weighs exactly what this does until I researched more about towing and payload. I just thought the towing capacity number was what you looked for. I went with a keystone passport that weighs only 3900 dry and sleeps 6.

    @Myles , when is the best time ti buy ? DFW or Houston or Tampa RV show ? Will your dealer be ther e 2024 ?

    • @mylesrv
      @mylesrv  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t work with just one dealership. However, McClains which is where I am at in this video, will be at the Dallas RV show. And the best time to buy is where you find something you like. I can’t say one show will have something another show may not have cause I have no way of telling you what models each dealership will bring to each show.
