We brush every couple of days so they stay familiar with grooming. If you have the energy to at least play with them or do daily walks, GSD are just the best.

Lol, I have a 45pound version of Fred but she doesn't particularly like water. She's only 42% german-shepherd, the rest is 42% Canadian Inuit dog and 14% supermutt.
But the black German shepherd genes are strong in her appearance. My theory as to why she's not crazy about water is the Inuit dog genes and the fact that she's from cold Nunavut so water could be dangerous there... hoped she'd like swimming like our previous german-shepherd sledding dog (Malamute) mix but what she lacks in swimming she makes up for with her love of being in boats!

A black German Shepherd has always been on my bucket list of pups to have. Actually a pair of them is the dream. He is a magnificent specimen ands it’s nice to not see that spinal curvature you see in poorly bred shepherds. He has very clearly been bred by people who know the proper, natural composition of the breed and have done incredible work. Fred is the example of people breeding these dogs for the love of the breed and wanting to showcase what a conscientious breeder is capable of turning out. This is not a backyard breeder, crossing their fingers. Time, money and medical care have gone into this dog.
I haven’t seen Lupa yet, but if I heard correctly and you said Fred was her dad, I’m sure she is as beautifully turned out. The amount of work he has done and that has been put into him in his two years is evident. He is what I refer to as a baby ( because they never stop being your baby, even when he’s doing big boy work ) and already his ability to self-regulate is impressive. I’m sure his mum and dad have more training to come for him and I would love to see Fred show us what he can do. I tip my hat to his mum and dad for putting the time and love into a breed who is exceptional, but absolutely must undergo training.
He is a magnificent beast, and that Color enhancing shampoo brings out his coat beautifully. I wonder if they will add a green based one for pups whose black has redder undertones to make their coat pop a bit more. As always another wonderful video on a wonderful baby boy. I can’t wait to see your new addition to the family, I just hope it doesn’t mean you had to say goodbye to one of the kids ( I’ve not been able to keep up with your adventures for a while now. So, forgive me if I open wounds unintentionally. ) Wishing you and your family love and happiness from the 9th ring of hell, the DTES.

Seeing how well behaved Fred is, i wonder how my Aussie would react. He's used to being bathed but doesn't like water and having him get in the shower area (he'd be too large for the tub) would be a challenge because he'd immediately acknowledge the place as "The Corner of Misery" and he's very strong lol once inside though, he'd likely cooperate in the most disgruntled way (i know he'd behave well based on his outstanding calm at the vet of all places). Drying towel would be 11/10 though he LOVES IT, and the dryer would be fine because I desensitised him with hairdrier and more generally loud noises so he understands noise doesn't always mean immediate danger. Brushing would be interesting because he has a double coat but dislikes the rake - I've been seriously considering investing in an equigroomer to make the shedding task easier for him. He does love the sleeker brush though, it feels softer for him.
But it's also very easy to get into Junior's good book though, scratches to the ears, a treat and some flattery to his massive ego by telling him how much of a good boi he is (I literally trained him by using flattery as a reward lol it's highly efficient) will do the trick.

Fred's head tilts show he's listening intently to you and wants to understand what you're saying. I daresay that attention paid off when you mentioned "walk" and "treats" at the end, there was zero ambiguity in his reaction to those 🤣🤣🤣

I wish more people with dogs that aren’t considered “groomer” dogs would bring them in. I owned a Dane and 3 Rotties who all got regular grooming. It gave them a chance to be around a pro and be handled. My current GSD X is also going to be going to a groomer regularly. My groomer is a former vet tech and trainer so she looks at my dogs in a very holistic way. She’s worth her weight in gold.
