      Adam Fierro Thank the godless universe we have michio kaku - open minded about ET being here, more humble about mankinds current knowledge and just way smarter than sagan all around.

    • @PanthersForce
      @PanthersForce 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Its not that he is smarter than sagan its because of the time period difference, if sagan where to be alive still he would have updated his knowledge and still be the amazing intelligent man. Science/Astronomy is always advancing with new discoveries and is always evolving, Sagan would have done as so aswell if we'd still have him today.

    • @marcocalarco7575
      @marcocalarco7575 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Fierro I understand what you're saying - I'm not talking about that. I think Sagan was very unfair and didn't do good science in regards to good ufo cases, honest witnesses and also dismissing psi phenomenon (that has had so little money spent on it's investigation.)

    • @PanthersForce
      @PanthersForce 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Sagan's goal was to teach the masses about the great mysteries of the universe and the cosmos. He taught us about our true origins and made us gaze at the stars to see how we came to be. He opened our eyes on how humanity needed to work after seeing the astonishing picture of voyager 1 of the pale blue dot and built upon that to open our eyes about how small we are. He led the masses to a way of compassion, not only did he taught us astronomy but the true connection we have with each other. UFO's are nothing but the work of charlatans, we had yet to receive a visit from other beings. That sagan knew that it would be absurd to think we're alone in this vast expanding universe is another thing, and he touched that topic many times. Sagan was a scientist and a astronomist, not a UFO investigator. UFO's are mere scifi they are fraud. If we were to get visited either our government would hide it from us which they're very good at that, or they would have stopped by for a couple of minutes and left quickly to see such mediocre life forms dividing themselves by land and killing their own kind, and we would had never known they were here.

    • @marcocalarco7575
      @marcocalarco7575 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Adam Fierro If you were taught to think by Carl Sagan, clearly he failed. This is part of what I'm talking about. You Sagan clones. Very unimaginative thinkers, very in the box and overly confident. On the other hand Michio Kaku is a true intellect (as opposed to sagan) because Kaku can say - if an ET civilization is 1 million years ahead of us we can't say what they can and can't do. They could be here and he adds 5% of ufos seem to defy laws of physics we know. Close encounters don't really have any good psychological explanation for us to dismiss them as far as I can see. Kaku doesn't insult experiencers of these things like Sagan did. Sagan was a debunker, which is an agenda that goes beyond skepicism and in his case involved many clumsy lies about the phenomenon and in effect might have held us back from very important discovery by creating a laughter curtain. Bad, bad science.

    I was raised to believe in the God of the Holy Bible and was dragged to church and Sunday school as a child. I always wanted the existence of God to be a reality, but in my mind, I had doubts. I watched some of the cosmos series broadcasts back in the 70's and was absolutely fascinated by the knowledge and storytelling prowess of this great man. I took a lot of heat from the Christian crowd over it too. Truth is, at 59 I still haven't reached a personal conclusion on the God/no God thing, but I do believe what Mr.Sagan showed me helped give me courage to break away from the narrow minded thought processes and consider other logical possibilities. He also helped me realize that, with an estimated 100 billion galaxies in the universe, a lifetime of humility might serve me well. so far, it has. The world lost a great man on the day of his passing.

      Like Carl Sagan, I was brought up with Reform Judaism - though under very different circumstances. I am a proud Bar Mitzvah and still remember some of the Hebrew I learned back then.
      _Cosmos_ came to PBS at a critical point in my adolescence, and played a crucial role in making me a secular humanist, along with the writings of Stephen Jay Gould and Isaac Asimov.
      None of us has any problem with the general concept of the supernatural - which by definition can't be tested by science, which concerns itself exclusively with the natural Universe.
      But as soon as claims are made that _are_ scientifically testable - about the origin of the Universe, of life in general and in its specific forms, about historical and observable events - then we run into problems. When religious people treat their holy books as science and history textbooks, and demand that the rest of us do so as well, we've got a *big* problem.
      As long as religious people treat their holy books as works of literature, allegory, and poetry, and reject a simplistic, literalistic treatment, and rely on science to tell them the facts about the observable Universe (and as my heroes often noted, *most* religious people do this), we have no dispute with them at all.

      I want to talk about Carl Sagan.
      To many people Carl Sagan was a voice of reason. He was a kind and intelligent man who took on the position of educating the masses. His lectures and presentations were edifying and helpful in promoting enlightenment among the masses.
      I say bullshit! I say that Carl Sagan was a propagandist who spread hate and division amongst the masses. Under the guise of scientific enlightenment, he justified condescension and derision towards Christians and other believers. And he does it in a sneaky and passive/aggressive way, which makes him even more despicable!
      Science is owned by the people who fund it. If science didn't help to make profits for industrialists or if it didn't feed the war machine, then it wouldn't exist except for maybe in cloister.
      Sagan worked for NASA. I think for PR as much as anything. His presence made NASA look like it had a peaceful, beneficial to humanity mission.
      NASA was publicly funded R&D for defense contractors. Data obtained through the projects at NASA helped the defense establishment to build ICBM's. Sagan was certainly a part of the Military Industrial Complex. In his own little way, he contributed to the war machine. (Sagan wasn't very bright and I am sure he was just a useful idiot.)
      Sagan and his modern counterparts are copies of each other. They all say the same thing. None of them will ever talk about the dark side of the technocracy. They will never mention that science has enabled copious amounts of pollution. They will never talk about how science feeds the war machine. Leaving out a large part of the story makes him deceptive.
      Public Broadcasting isn't funded by hippies. It is funded by serious businesspeople who work at large, worldwide, corporations. Big oil, big agriculture. I have seen where BP and Archer Daniels have underwritten PBS presentations. Why would such wealthy, smart and powerful people be so interested in indoctrinating the masses? I don't know!
      As far as the science he was pushing:
      Big Bang cosmology is highly theoretical. In order to find out if the hypotheses about the big bang are true, we would have to get in a space cruiser and get a closer look. I doubt that will ever happen.
      Evolution is just plain stupid. There never has been a clear demonstration of speciation. If you want to believe that slime on a rock turned into Beethoven that is your business. It is also true to say that one can reject evolution and it will in no way hurt the quality of their life. Evolution is a hobby that is used for atheist propaganda.
      In science theory means no practical value as much as anything else.
      Carl Sagan got the job because of his nerdy good looks and warm demeanor. It is just show business. Carl is an atheist equivalent to a televangelist preacher. Carl got the job because he looked good on television and his handlers knew that would help the indoctrination to sink in the minds of the public.
      With Carl Sagan one doesn't get the full story. One only hears what the people who sign his paycheck want them to hear.

He made me interested in many things and I miss him but am so thankful for what he gave us and what he left us. He said things sooo pretty. Neil is no replacement, just another person doing a good thing.

    I, unfortunately, didn't find Carl Sagan until after he had already passed. But he still made an incredibly large impact on my life. He's still inspirational, thought provoking, eye opening, and is still alive through everyone he's inspired. He is still a great man and always will be.

    "When my husband died, because he was so famous and known for not being a believer, many people would come up to me-it still sometimes happens-and ask me if Carl changed at the end and converted to a belief in an afterlife. They also frequently ask me if I think I will see him again. Carl faced his death with unflagging courage and never sought refuge in illusions. The tragedy was that we knew we would never see each other again. I don't ever expect to be reunited with Carl." -Ann Druyan

    Carl's atoms will always be with us, on this earth. Some of his atoms will become a person again, the same way the collections of atom we called Carl Sagan came into being in the first place. A way of reincarnations, if you will. That way he will always be with us, among us, for as long as the earth shall live for billions of years.

    "Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam."

    I just finished his book "Cosmos" a week ago. I cried two times while reading. The first was the inspiring, yet tragic story of Hypatia of the Library of Alexandria. Second, was about 30 seconds after finishing the last word in the last sentence in the last paragraph, knowing that this brilliant man was no longer here to provide guidance to us all.

I have now just submitted my PhD thesis, I honestly do not know if I would have embarked on this path without his inspiration and passion. He taught me to look at us not as countries, as indivduals fighting one another for dominance, but as a species, trapped together on this pale blue dot in the vastness of space. Thank you.

Also, I wonder what he would think about the new interest in UFOs and the government's acknowledgement that they exist. I'd be willing to bet that even the way we look at and use cellphones and the internet would be different. He could bring things into perspective in a way that we would use them more productively. He was respected and very influential - the world needs a Carl Sagan. Rest in Peace....assuming that we rest when we die. If not, enjoy the journey.
