  • Hi and welcome to my build guide and tips for the Tamiya DT-02 chassis. This will become the Tamiya Holiday Buggy, but you can follow this chassis build guide for any Tamiya DT02 kit. In this part, we focus on Parts Bag A and complete steps 1 to 13 in the build manual. I kept saying the word "simple" in this video, because it is a very easy chassis to put together, ideal for a first time builder, but at the same time a pleasure for any RC fan! I am making only a few little changes to the build, mainly the addition of a 540 Torque Tuned motor instead of the stock little 380 motor, as you will see, it's a very simple upgrade. I hope you enjoy the video and pick up a little tip along the way. Happy building!

    Hi mate, yes, as you say a really simple build that is ideal for beginners, but that didn't stop me ( on my first build ) in getting those front suspension wishbones on the wrong way around. Doh ! I made the mistake of thinking the kit was too simple and didn't pay full attention to the manual - lulled into a false sense of security I think. Easily done. I think mine has a standard 540, so it will be interesting to see if there is a great difference in performance when using a torque tuned motor. I swear we'll do a Holiday Buggy video in 2022 - it's been on the backburner since 2019...🤣. All the best for Christmas mate, to you and the family. Have a good one and stay safe my friend....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻.

    Hi Mark, Happy holidays!! Another great build vid. I love the simplicity of this chassis. 540 upgrade…great idea. Replacing the bushings with bearings during the initial build is smart. For some reason I always grease the bearing before setting them in place. I think it may “waterproof” unsealed bearings or at the very least protect against submersion. I have to find that original Holiday Buggy video that I used to see at my local hobby shop when I was a kid. I’ll give you the link in a comment if I find it. Always fun to watch you build RCs. This is definitely a build that beginners into this great hobby could do. Yours is going to be a bit more rapid with that torque tuned motor. It's really nice to watch along with your builds, Mark! For some reason I still haven't managed to get me a DT-02 yet, so for now I'll just enjoy it on video, ha ha! I have to say it looks really strong, the plastic is really bulky, and have really started loving those screw pins. I have to say that Tamiya really managed to make kits that are easy to put together but still engineered really well. Yes, I have heard about that front damper stay being weak, I can imagine you will address that in next episode, I'll just have to wait and see, ha ha!
    Have a great one there, Mark! I just started my Christmas holiday, so if I won't be writing any more before Christmas then I wish you a Merry Christmas!

      Hello, Mads! Nice to have you watch along my friend! I really recommend this chassis to you, you must get one soon! The Sand Viper is a classic on this chassis and you would love it! Ah, I haven't much time, so the front shock tower mod will have to come later. Glad to hear you have started your holiday, I wish you a lovely Christmas and a prosperous New Year! Cheers, mate! :O)

    Hiya Matey. Ah yes the good old DT-02 chassis is the best of the cheap Tamiya 2WD ones I reckon. Are you going to put oil shocks on? One thing with the Holiday Buggy is that they put the front shocks on upside down to make them fit which is a bit awkward. I made that alternative front shock mount based on your invention so that the shocks fit under the body the right way up. Bit of a faff but it's the sort of thing that bothers me. Anyway, top build guide as ever. I can tell that it is school hols with you publishing videos mid week! Hope that you are enjoying your time off. I'm still plodding on at work till Friday 😞 Hope all is well with you and yours mate. Best wishes 🙂

      Hi mate! Sorry for the late reply. Yep, loving this DT02, it just feels "right"! Got some old shocks of my TT02B that should fit. I haven't got time to make too many mods - too many kits to build! Will look at a plate for the front when time allows. Hehe, yeah, school's out so I made a start on filming the build of this one. Hope to get the Blockhead built and filmed before the break is over. Hope you get to wind down after you break up for Christmas, have a good one mate and speak to you soon. All the best as always. :O)

      @@MarkBryanRC I've still got tomorrow at work and then it will be the usual last minute panic. After Xmas day I certainly hope to get a bit of building time as not going away anywhere this year. I've actually got another Holiday Buggy kit from ages ago that I could do. Plenty to be getting on with. Wish I was off already! Enjoy your time off mate :-)

    Hi Mark,
    I'm going to be doing a video on this soon, got a few upgrades already to do on it Inc sealed bearings, I'm not a off road buggy kind of guy but loved its looks.
    Would like to get together with you and your other friend on here, and we could maybe do a few videos of certain subject videos like motors/servo/esc/greases/shocks, etc. Let me know as I'm starting my adventure on here as i am disabled now and putting my efforts on here, and maybe we could help each other.

      Hi Pete and thanks for the message. Cool that you are doing a video on this buggy, I'll look out for that!
      I'm always open to ideas, yes it would be good to work together on a video project or two. Did you mean to actually meet in person? Depends on your location, if we are close then it won't be a problem. I have a few ideas for informational videos and I'm sure my mate Rob will be up for a collab or two. Let me know what you are thinking, you can email me, my address is on my channel "About" page. All the best from Mark... :o)

    Mark could I ask a favour. On the steering uprights, could you measure the length from where it pivots to the tie rod ball joint please and see how close it is to the ones on a blitzer beetle. I am thinking of trying to run narrow wheels on the front of a blitzer. The uprights look very similar bar the length of the wheel spindle. Cheers Dave

      @MarkBryanRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dave, no problem 😊 I just measured them both and they are both about 15mm. Looking at them I think you are right, they are very similar. I think you will be able to make it work! All the best with the project 👍 Cheers 🍻

    Morning Merry Xmas
    Just discovered your Channel. I know my question is not applicable to this video but was still wondering if you can give me some advice, Just built a tamiya rising fighter for my grandson, I built the grasshopper and grasshopper 2 for my own kids 30 years ago and was disappointed to see that Tamiya are still using those weak rear axle springs that I remember breaking after nearly every run, can you advise a fix, thank you.

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! I hope you had a great Christmas! Ah, yes, those little pesky springs... I must admit the only car I have with them is the very similar Rising Fighter. I haven't broke the springs, so maybe the metal quality is better these days. However, I eventually got rid of the springs by fitting a brace to the centre of the gearbox. It's a bit fiddly but you can make one yourself - or you might be able to find one on the internet (ebay) if you search for one. If you are interested, here is a video of how I made one:

      Hello Derek. Your 23T motor will be a good match for this buggy. The motor plate was an old one I found in my spares box, but you could make one out of thin cardboard. All the best!

    Any suggestions as to if there are any good kits to swap the posi screws for hex? Are these M3 size?

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David. I don't know of any screw kits for this model, I just buy my stainless hex screws off eBay. Yes they are M3 and most are 10mm long. You can get a bag of 100 for about £4, a bargain in my book!

      @@davidhumble6892 Hi David. You don't need self tapping screws, the standard machine thread works just fine. In fact, all the hex screws supplied in kits by Tamiya (e.g. the TD4, TD2 and XV-02) are machine thread. Hope this helps! :o)

    As an owner of an original vintage Holiday Buggy, this 2010 version never really appealed to me. For me, the original was designed to look like the real 1:1 vehicle and it had scale realistic tyres and overall dimensions. I'm sure the DT-02 version is a very good product in its own right and certainly performs substantially better than the original...but, it is a bit like the Super Avante not being a real Avante...for me the original model is the Holiday Buggy and this is just a modern chassis with an old body fitted. I mean they even had to cut holes in the body for the front suspension and also the track width is way too wide for the body. I wish they had used a different body and kept the original name exclusive to the vintage product.

    • @MarkBryanRC

      Hi there Stuart and many thanks for sharing your thoughts. Yes, I totally get where you are coming from, there is a lot of Tamiya history and we've been lucky enough to share most of it! There is something for everyone in this awesome hobby. I'd probably feel the same as you if I had an original HB... but for me, this is a great (cheap) little buggy that's fun to drive and looks so cool as it blasts past with that dude in the driving seat! I also have the Super Avante and that also performs so much better than the original. Agreed, they'll never replace the original versions that are icons in their own right and always will be! All the best from Mark... 😎👍
