What a great video I absolutely love my new Tannus Solid Tires I will never go back to a regular tire again absolutely one-hundred-percent the best investment ever made
Being a heavier rider (260), I've always had to jack my tires up to 110-115 psi, so I haven't felt much difference in the ride quality on the Tannus tires (700x23 slicks as well). I can definitely tell that there is more drag on them, but I'll take the slight drag and perhaps tiny bit rougher ride for the peace of mind when my attention lapses and I ride through a debris field on the side of the road with glass and the like.. It's so nice to not have to worry about fixing a tire on my rides, or just grabbing my bike and going (Since I had to pump my tires every ride, even if they are only a day apart). Good review!
I have a customer who is in the same situation as you. I put him on the 110 Tannus tires and so far he likes them. I think piece of mind and convenience can often out way maximum efficiency. Unless you are trying to break some sort of speed record, you will most likely be happy with Tannus. Thanks for watching!
@@JaredMorris1 Yeah, plus as a heavier rider I'm not at all concerned about racing or whatever, I'm out there for exercise and fun, so the tiny increase in drag ends up in pushing myself just that much more which is sorta the point! I definitely LOVE my Tannus tires -- and none of this was to mention that you can get them in almost any color, so you can make your bike look freaking awesome by matching up an accent color!
You can use your phone on a phone mount to measure your speed via GPS in a nav app that has that function. Some might require you to set a route to show it.
I just put some 40c on my Kona Ute which is electrified... And I added a wooden box that holds a Class 1 hitch ball for me to pull a four-wheel farm wagon based bicycle camper... I didn't bother to put them out in the sun cuz they're beige... thank goodness I have one of the strongest grip strengths of anyone I know... It was a workout putting them on... I'm very excited... I have been avoiding riding over grassy areas and this will be liberating... any efficiency loss is no head shaker... I don't think increase vibration should be very problematic...Serfas Pro Flo clamp-on handlebar grips with an aggressive ulnar bar have been very satisfactory over the years for reducing hand symptoms... And I don't use clip-on shoes and pedals so I'm not going to feel the vibration in the pedals with normal Footwear... I'm excited that this product is available we've been waiting so long for any change in the technology at all... and while slick tubes Etc have been helpful... The quality seems to have declined over the year and I've been having a problem with the slick tubes delaminating at the valve stem... which if you have a few small zip ties you can MacGyver... Although it's not exactly confidence-inspiring it has worked even long-term... Seems odd that they're not offering this in larger sizes such as 29? Wondering about your thoughts about trying to fit a 700c on a 29? Probably stretching it too thin and impossible to mount I would imagine
@@JaredMorris1 I'm trying to imagine these on my monster Cruiser 36er LOL still plenty of button bead on the tires and I hardly ever ride it, so no hurry... Just don't overstress the fork from what I've seen and some guy in the UK videos destroyed one... pushing it Beyond reasonable limits
Like it doesnt matter what the society or the bike community says abt this tire, this tire serves its purpose being durable, reliable and stress free. without worrying abt flats
I commute daily 4 miles back and forth to work on smooth to pretty smooth ground. Tannus Tires and rims getting installed tomorrow after work. Yaaaaaaaay!
I am very impressed with what the shop has done. Had my Schwinn GTX3 upgraded from a 7 Speed to a 9 Speed along with my Tannus Tires/Evo rims set installed. Bike was fully serviced. Let me tell you, air tires can kick rocks really far. They can retire. Stop selling them. Why purchase them? Tannus is LIFE!
Just ordered a pair of regular new slick tires (700x25c), can't wait to test those! Where I'm leaving, South of Israel, thorns are everywhere! It's so horrible that I am afraid to get out and ride my road bike. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the in-depth review. Nearly all reviewers say they are a mixed bag. Harsh feel, increased rolling resistance, OK for training, not for racers. I wonder why tannus has not been more successful. A group of ultra endurance cyclists rode from China to Tajikistan on Tannus tires. Served them well. I run tubes with sealant. I haven't had to change a flat on the side of the road. I punctured and made it home without noticing it. In the end I had to replace the tube because the sealant kept oozing out.
Thanks for watching! My roots are in Wales. Beautiful place. Glad to hear you are riding on Tannus. Let us know anytime you have feedback on your tires. Thanks again! Cheers.
Excellent review. As an older rider (56yo), I find saddle time completely dependent on fatigue, not aerobic endurance. As long as I'm comfortable in the saddle, there is nearly no limit to how far, how fast I can ride. Without the thorn issue here in Western Washington, I think my best option is using Stan's or Slime to reduce the occurrence of flats. For me, cycling is all about enjoying the ride and a rougher ride or one with more vibration is not at all desirable. Thank you for your in depth and common sense review. Would you please do a DIY on Stan's vs Slime? You need to start a Patreon to fund product reviews.
Hey I'm in my seventh decade just barely... Been using a Sella SMP split seat in combo with a thudbuster seatpost with excellent results... Have the same formula repeated on all of my bicycles LOL different bicycles for different purposes... I don't have the option of putting these solid tires on most of my bicycles cuz they're 29er... getting fed up with the slime tubes delaminating at the valve stem.. although zip-ties seems to be actually not a bad fix when that happens
It seems that these could be pretty good tires for a full suspension e-bike. There the 3-5% less efficiency doesn't hurt so much and full suspension will take care of the rough ride quality. On the plus side you don't ever mind about the flats anymore.
Awesome review was worried in the beginning but u nailed at the end this is not perfect so what the more we support these tires the more they will evolve but the fact u don't have to carry all the tire junk when get a flat, for commuters it's a godsend or just enjoying a long ride because we have thrones, glass, nails or anything sharp no more worries or even checking your tire pressure before each ride with Presta valves.
Oh man, I've never seen roads as smooth as yours. I've just ordered some tannus tyres as broken glass is a real problem for my commute. However I also have to contend with cobbled streets and huge pot holes. I went for the 28mm tyres so I'm hoping they're softer than yours. Thanks for the review 👍
I hope the tires work out well for you! Please let us know if you have any issues as I have never tried the 28mm before. Good luck and thanks for watching!
Lucky you, we seem to have every tyre problem in the UK thorns, broken glass, debris and pot holes. So my four punctures in two months is no surprise. These tannus tyres are definitely on my to get list.
I have the same issues. However, I hope their tire armor works well since I can't get the airless tires in my size. Maybe if I ever get narrower rims. Not in my plans though for now. Whatever works well enough I tend not to upgrade until they need replaced.
These tires were a nightmare. Felt like riding through peanut butter. Purchased and installed the 700 x 28 size on my road bike. The warmer the temperature, the more sluggish the tires felt as the compound became softer. It actually felt like the tires were sticking to the pavement. Put a total of 30 miles on them and, because of a terrible return policy, basically cut them off and tossed them. $150 down the drain.
So sorry to hear about your bad experience. I have never used the 28mm version. Maybe the larger tires suck. I can only speak to the 700c X 23mm and 25mm tires. My experience was that they feel a bit too firm. From what I researched I am not the only one who has had this feed back. Thanks for your input as I have never used the 28.
@@JaredMorris1 They come in 3 "hardness" values, correct? I see from above comments you purchased the middle (100 psi equivalent). Do you think the "soft" would be any better?
@@jrustyshaffer5438 It may help to change the hardness. That is a good point. I am not sure which direction to go in improving the ride. Harder or softer. Someone is going to have to try it. After e-mailing the company, I found out that not all of their tire models come with the three hardness compounds. This is something to be aware of before any purchases are made.
For me it's not at all the issue with bumpy rides, weights, or going very fast. The only thing I'm worried about is if these solid Tannis tires will kill my spokes. I'm a very heavy rider and I often carry some sort of gear with me. My current bike is a steel cruiser, with no suspension save for the 26x1.95 tires. When I'm with my heavy gear it's very probable that the collective weight reach up near the 300lbs weight tolerance...as high as 280 even. I often avoid potholes, jumping curves, or steep ramps. If all the shock and hit is going to the wheel itself, I'd be more worried about the wheel. Do you find this an issue at all Mr. Morris? Or this just a theoretical worry.
That is a very good question. I would like to think that the weight would not be an issue. However I have not personally tested this on my bike. I do have a customer who is a Clydesdale sort of rider. He is probably with in the weight you commented on. He has put a lot of miles on his bike with no problems. He runs 700c X 25mm tires and they are working well. This is obviously anecdotal and second hand, so please not that every one is different. More research is needed.
I usually have 700 x 25 tires (Continental Gatorskin) on my road bike but tried out some 700 x 23 airless tires (different brand, not Tannus) a few years ago. I kept them on for about a year and, although I liked the freedom of not having to worry about flats, the ride on the airless tires felt rough so I ended up getting rid of them. I’m considering trying out the 700 x 25 version of the Tannus tires but am a little skeptical given my past experience. Do you think the ride on the 25s would be any better than they were on the 23s? Thanks.
Brian- It would be hard for me to compare the ride of your old solid tires to the new Tannus tires. From my experience working on bikes for many years, is that the Tannus brand solid tires are the best that I have ever seen. Do solid tires ride as well as pneumatic ones? The answer to that is no. The other question is, are there major differences between the 23 and 25 solid tire? The answer to that is no. I think the differences between the two afore mentioned sizes is nearly zero. However, Tannus makes the tires in different hardness compounds. You could try the 25 in a softer compound. Check their website to see if they will offer this. Supply problems may determine availability. Good luck!
rode with the MTB version on my commuter bike - but after about 500 km i had a "total breakdown" - the tire got ripped of the rim - so no more tannus for me.. It was a very low speed and at a very sharp bend - they couldnt take that.. so - for me - to dangerous..
are you using the soft, regular or hard tires ? i live in an area where the roads are rough. do you think if i get the soft tires ( 95psi ) i wouldn't feel the vibrations as much ?
I believe I am using the medium tire. Unfortunately I have no information on how the softer tires feel on rough roads when compared to the hard compound. Sorry. I wish you luck.
I'm looking at these from a perspective of a casual "townie" rider. Lets say 6-10 mph, mostly sidewalks (bike trails are large sidewalk type affairs here, some brick roads, some asphalt roads). How would that ride feel? Is the rough ride / vibration more of a concern because road bikers are going 15-25 mph or do you think this application of the tires would feel terrible due to the unevenness of brick and sidewalk (expansion grooves) even at low speed?
I believe the Tannus tire set up would benefit the riding you describe very well. The unpleasant vibrations I have described seem to be pronounced at higher speeds. When travelling at more moderate speed, the tires are more comfortable. This has been my experience using 700c tires in both 23 and 25 widths.
It takes a while to get those tires fitted to the wheels. I can do it under an hour now. It took a bunch of practice though. You have to be patient when doing this.
i train and do racing in group rides....im running tubeless.....do they make a performance version? and why would you need a inner tube on this? tannus no flats ever?
From what I can tell there are no "performance" type of tires from Tannus. They just offer a range according to size and type. It is nice having these tires in terms of never having to worry about flats or carrying spare tubes.
I guess you've driven quite some miles with these tires today. How do the tires feel during hard cornering? Do you feel that you can trust that the tire stays on the wheel without wobbling around?
Tires feel solid. I do not worry about them coming off or rolling around on corners. It goes without saying that you will want to make sure the tires are mounted properly.
@@JaredMorris1 you say your still running them, but have you bought replacement's or using the original pair ? How much milage did accomplish ? Thanks for the reply
