- In july 2016 I was lucky enough to have a pre-series MatrixBrute for beta-testing. I made some videos : here is the sequencer, it is transposable even though I don't use transposition in this video.
This is a direct sound recording of the MatrixBrute, no external effect, no EQ, no editing,no compression (except that of youtube ?).
Just a point ; I make at some point so called ratcheting, but there is no such function for this in the sequencer. It's only the way I programmed steps. The sequence is based on single notes that are programmed every three steps, some notes spread over two steps by tying them (same key two steps tied) and having a mute step just after. The ratchet is obtained by repeating a note three times (same key three steps not tied) the first step is always played while the two next are muted when I don't want ratchet or activated when I want ratchet. - เพลง

Was just about to say this, and saw your comment! I bought a DSI Pro2 last year. It's excellent, but if the MB had been available at the time it would have been the one.

i have a sub 37 (keeping) and i will be getting the matrix brute and the deep mind 12. I don't even know why i bother being a guitarist anymore
I'm in more or less the same predicament, adding a MatrixBrute alongside my Sub 37 (a stayer!) and other synths. Running the guitar through the Sub 37, using its drive capabilities and filter/amp modulation, is very cool. The thought of running it through the MatrixBrute... that's going to be cool squared. So don't chuck your axe quite yet :-)

Reminds me of Chris Franke of Tangerine Dream, and their sequencer "ratcheting" back in the day.

Hello, Some of the circuits are directly inherited from Mini/MicroBrute, some are brand new and were conceived by Arturia's engineers. Personaly I was involved in the phase of specification of the synth two years ago. During the two past years I was also involved in the validation of technical choices and we managed to design what was the ultimate monosynth of my dreams. Finally I did also some beta-testing for it. Therefore although this synth bears a bit of my "DNA", the merit and success are to be fully granted to Arturia's engineers.

this guy is the only one in youtube making real sounds and not just twisting knobs without knowing what to do. The demos in Sweetwater and Reverb, etc, are crap. They should hire this guy. He doesn't even have to talk to get his point across.

yusynthman so, now that you've tested this synth throuroly, do you recommend it for creating sounds? What do you think of the ARP 2600 new version? what about the Voyager moog?
Yes I would, it is a great sound design instrument. Are you referring to the TTSH ? If so I must finish building mine before I can give you an opinion. The Moog Voyager is no longer built I believe, any way it is much more expensive, and has no sequencer if I remember well

Outstanding demo. I can't fathom why they've allowed so many unflattering videos to go out. If you're going to talk over the sound of the synth, at the very least use a line recording of the synth, not some camera's mic. A lot of bad word of mouth is out there simply because the demos are really bad ... Not this one. Kudos.
So its a 1 track sequencer? What a bummer. Cant overlay mulitple tracks, playback multiple sequences playing together. I was almost sold.

Hello! What is your experience with the matrixbrute signal noise ratio?
You hear any significant infiltrating digital noises or any residual noises?
You have any remarkable negative experience about the matrixbrute noises?
My matrixbrute is generate a lot of noises. Using with a amplified studio
speakers almost impossible on a standard level. The dinamics is very thin
and poor, comparing my any other synthesizer. What is your opinion about
the signal dinamics?
I have no SNR issues, no significant infiltrating digital noises or any residual noises.
Guys! How is he doing the triplets? If i do what he does on the Seqzenzer its just a Bend.
There is no "per se" ratcheting function in the Matrixbrute, what I do in this sequence is to use 2 silence steps between each note, where I want ratchet I simply use three successive steps to play the same note. Very simple.

That sequencer looks like so much fun. Do we know how much data the interface is able to output to midi? can it do all the channels of accent etc when driving other gear? (assuming the sequencer can drive other gear)
Yes it can at least drive other gears through CV/GATE outputs. Concerning MIDI I think it can though I have not tested it... As a matter of fact I seldom use MIDI...
Very inspiring and since a couple of days I'm also playing with my new toy and the paraphonic mode. Could you kindly explain me how you get a tone out of the VCO3 with the sequencer?
When using the sequencer in paraphonic mode the third VCO is not driven.
Brilliant. If anybody needs to know the difference between software and hardware, this is it. Organic, expressive, even emotional. Sub37 or MB ? You have answered my question.
Question, can it control external CV devices, if so how many at once?
Yes, Pitch CV and GATE plus 24 jacks assigned to rows (12 outputs) and columns (12 inputs) of the matrix. But all tis is described on Arturia's website : www.arturia.com/products/hardware-synths/matrixbrute/overview
yusynthman thanks for the answer. I read that but what I meant is, can the sequencer run multiple patterns simultaneously? Can I have one going with the internal hardware while running a separate pattern for external gear at the same time.
The sequencer only handles one sequence at a time however it can be synchronized or can synchronize with an external sequencer.

Can you run two independent sequencer patterns (in split mode maybe) CO on 1/4 notes chugging on one split, then a second pattern like you have going here ?

Far from a miracle lead 4 and P8 P12 have multiple layers, however this machine is unique and powerful, good demo thank you

mais j'ai un peu de mal avec certaines fonctions pas très claires.
Car analogique oui!....mai ne réagit pas comme un vrai analo au sens ou les positions des potards et faders ne representent reelement pas la position du son "dessiné" a un instant T
En mode Panel cela répond exactement comme cela doit. En mode preset si on change un réglage il y a effectivement un décalage mais c'st vrai sur tous les analogiques à mémoire de preset (Prophet 5...)
@@yusynthmanmerci!..mais je trouve que c'est pas encore ça quand je compare à mon pro one, sh101ou ms20, car eux sont réactifs de suite, le MB j'ai comme un temps de retard.Apres il y aurait aussi des reglages via midi a faire pour les courbes mais jamais branché en midi. ou il est bugé.

Petite question : le séquenceur du Matrixbrute peut-il piloter via midi ou cv d'autres synthés ?
Bon pour le MIDI je n'ai pu tester en juillet dernier car toutes ls fonctions n'étaient pas implémenté et je n'ai pas la machine en main depuis (je devrais en avoir une mais pas avant le mois d'Avril je pense). En tout cas si je me réfère au manuel le sequencer/arpeggiateur envoie des NOTE ON sur le canal MIDI donc dont pouvoir contrôler d'autres synthés MIDI on une DAW : "The sequencer and arpeggiator can lock to MIDI clock. They send MIDI notes, so you can record and edit the notes they send in a DAW. Since the LFOs can lock to MIDI and then be patched anywhere, effectively everything on the instrument can be in tempo." En CV/GATE c'est aussi disponible via le jack GATE OUT et via le jack de sortie de la ligne I (Kbd/Seq) de la matrice .

Lovely sequence. Having an in-built sequencer, a really visual modulation system and effects really sells it to me. I was hoping to buy a Sub 37 but i'm not sure now.

Same here. I am stuck between the Moog 37 CV and this. I think this has more features and it is easier out the gate to use.

Salutations Yves, j'ai une petite question ,est ce que sur cette vidéo le son est parfaitement synchro à l'image, il y a des choses qui m'échappent quand je vois défiler les steps sur la matrice, je n'ai pas encore réussi à faire ratchetter le monstre, un petit conseil serait le bien venu..
Quelle bête ce synthé, je ne suis pas certain qu'on pourra en faire un jour le tour ! Je passe tout mon temps à l'explorer, de ce fait je n'ai plus le temps de faire de musique ! Comme sur tout nouveau synthé passionnant ...

Première chose la vidéo n'est pas parfaitement synchro, car j'ai filmé avec un appareil et enregistré avec un autre et j''ai ensuite recalé à la main la piste vidéo et la piste son et il y a un décalage de temps. Sur cette vidéo le ratchet est obtenu en programmant autant de micro-temps que nécessaire. A savoir j'utilise trois pas de séquence par temps, donc une séquene de 8 temps prends 24 pas. Ensuite pour chaque temps j'enregistre la même note sur trois pas successif. Si le temps ne doit pas "rachetter", je désactive le 3è pas, et je lie le second au premier (en pressant les deux boutons en même temps, ainsi un temps s'étale sur deux pas. Pour un temps qui doit "ratchetter" j'active les trois pas successif et pour supprimer le ratchett sur ce temps je désactive le 2nd et 3ème pas. Quand les 3 pas successifs sont actifs on entend parfaitement la rafale (triolet), et quand le 2nd et le 3ème pas sont inactif on entend une croche simple.

Is this kind of sequencing also possible on the micro Brute?
It is difficult to change the length of sequences on the fly with a micro brute, but using the various memory it still possible to do interesting combination of sequences.

Sucks you have to have a work around for you to add ratchets by increasing the tempo. Weird that you can't add note repeat as an accent on a specific note.

Good one! Arturia should give you a commission. Sometimes just let the actual gear "speak". And you actually made some nice sounds for this demo. Most of what I've heard come out of this so far has been distorted noise

Vous êtes juste pour moi (en tout cas mais surement d'autres j'imagine) une référence dans la conception de synthétiseur, je suis tellement ravie qu'Arturia vous est repéré / solicité pour faire appel à votre passion et par conséquent vos précieuses connaissances!!! (enfin j'ai cru comprendre en cherchant et suivant l'histoire à votre sujet...)
J'ai hâte d'avoir ce bijoux parmi mes dizaine de synthétiseurs numérique et analogique... appareils hardware et software... dans mon studio (je l'aurai c'est sure même si ça me prend quelques années mais ça pourrai peut être prendre que quelques mois, le seul problème actuel c'est la place ou mettre tout ça à Paris... ^^).
Cela peu peut être vous paraitre curieux comme message mais je tiens franchement à vous faire part de mon respect et mon admiration quant à votre travail que je suis depuis maintenant plusieurs années!!!
Je pense aussi qu'on ne le dit pas toujours assez suffisamment pour certaines personnes ou peut être que trop (pensée à Georges Rodi "très simple et accessible" humainement parlant, n'aimant pas être "glorifié" et je comprend bien... bien que je l'ai rencontré depuis peu par hasard, sans aucun préjugé "je ne connaissais pas son histoire"... et le revois bientôt sans vous mentir avec plaisir pour partager musique avec nos synthés modulaire et de mon projet de clavier...) mais voilà je tenez à vous dire tout ça... vous devez être surement très occupé mais je souhaite ou j'espère franchement un jour avoir la chance ou l'honneur de vous rencontrer afin de partager et d'échanger cette amour de la musique électronique que j'affectionne depuis tant d'année...
Bref quoi qu'il en soit MERCI POUR TOUS!!!! Hâte d'utiliser ce synthétiseur dans mon studio, voir même sur scène!!! :D
