Project 03 : Shape of the Abyss [Full version 2K] H Lee, 2024

"Shape of the Abyss" is the latest in a series that follows the previous work, "Light of the Abyss," exploring the mysteries of the deep sea through media art. While "Light of the Abyss" utilized vibrant and diverse colors to symbolize the creation of life in the ocean depths, "Shape of the Abyss" employs monochrome to more clearly depict the enigmatic nature of the abyss.
Monochrome, typically seen as limiting in scope, is here used to maximize expressive freedom. Despite the single color, varying tones and shades vividly portray the movement and energy of underwater life. This approach does not confine the artwork but rather creates a deeper visual experience.
The continuous shifts in monochrome represent the passage of time, allowing viewers to experience the life cycles inherent in the piece. This structure focuses the audience's attention on the forms themselves, without the distraction of color, revealing the essence of the oceanic abyss with greater clarity.
