It’s time for the AMG A45 S to go head to head with the AMG CLA 45 S!
Now you might think that this is a bit of an odd drag race, given both of these cars are effectively just the same but in different bodies, right? Well that’s where you’re wrong!
First up we have Mat in the AMG A45. It’s powered by a 2-litre 4 cylinder engine to deliver 421hp and 500Nm of torque. It also weighs in at 1,635kg.
Alongside him we have the CLA. However, it’s had £800 worth of Stage 1 upgrades, and as a result its 2-litre 4 cylinder produces 490hp & 660Nm of torque. It also weighs in slightly heavier, at 1,675kg.
So how do you think it’ll play out? Will the wet track stop the CLA from properly putting its power down? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

As a tuner myself, i remember when we were frowned upon. Is good to see people like mat who understands what a GOOD, reliable tune can do for your car.
A question for you, if a tune is such an easy way to increase performance why do car makers leave that performance on table? Emissions thing?
@@mali5469 the car has to perform at the same level everywhere they sell it. So if in West europe we have a pretty good climate. But the car also has to perform in -30⁰ Russia for example.

@@mali5469 and also, sometimes manufacturers cut the power in the entry level cars, just so you "are forced" to buy the luxury or sport model to have a performance that the engine can produce on its entry level. like f30 bmw with the n20 engine.

In my opinion it's just insane that nowadays you can get 497HP out of a 4c 2.0l engine just by Stage 1 on a street car. Like holy shit, this is more than DTM race cars manage to pull out of these tiny engines. Shows how far we've come technology-wise! :D

The best channel for testing rain tires. Almost every race is on a wet surface, which really favors the car with the best rain tire. It's also stupid to race in the rain.

Problem of low end models is that being low displacement are very weak in the low rpm range.

@@mahfudmahmuddin3161 the Cla shooting brake is much more of a var than the cla sedan, but the a45 is enough. The rear seat room is better and the boot of both isn't that different. Keep the money, buy the a45 and spend the difference on fuel on some curvy roads

This is EXACTLY the sort of race I've wanted to see. I would love a series of stock cars Vs their tuned selves to see the difference it makes.
Like my Astra G 0-200km/h, stock: 31s; stage about 4, 340hp: 17s
and Audi S1 0-200km/h, stock: 24s; stage 3 (equals audi S3 stage 2), 380hp: 15s
or also such engines that are strongly restricted by the manufacturer like the BMW 2015 114i going from 100 to 200hp with a stage 1. So much to explore.
@@flavioxy Exactly! Any model where the engines are the same across the board but detuned for linearity (like the 114i having the same engine as the 116i, and both having some serious tuning potential, as you said).
Say, a stock 125i, tuned 125i and stock M135i in a drag race. So you get the 'How much faster can you make the 2.0 litre compared to stock on a stage 1/2?' *and* the 'How well does it compare to the 3.0 litre?'
Definitely a good shout with the VAG cars too, since they all use that damned 2.0 litre! Tuned GTI vs Stock Golf R would be a cracking race, obviously not off the line but in a roll race it'd be really interesting
Obviously all of that, on top of the stock car vs stage 1 version simple concept, would be gold in my opinion

@fluffy91 Honestly this is exactly what I've been doing with my project cars for years, get the lowest state of tune on an engine with massive potential and then start slow on the mods.
Had a 1.9TDi Bora (90hp) swapped some stuff to make it equal/faster than the 150hp for not much. That engine now lives in my Transporter T4, long after the Bora crumbled around the PD beast!
Had a BMW 325i, which had the same engine as the 330i but detuned (N53B30). Stage 1 made it faster than the 30i with much higher spec for the money.
Now working on a base model 8N TT, with the 150hp 1.8T, not much to get it to the 240hp Quattro Sport level. (It's FWD but we'll look past that lol)

im suprised that the a45s managed to do quarter mile in 11.96 in such wet conditions , i think your best on dry was 12.1 , i guess the cool air and humidity made the engine run better .
