This was a lot of fun to do with you babe! I just want to add some more details that I didn't say in my section because I didn't want to overtake the video. I recently got into an argument on twitter about whether or not Starboy is Asha's love interest or grandfather in the original concept. Ever since I saw the concept art of Wish I decided to purchase the book and both me and my husband read it. Yes, it does say Starboy was supposed to be a version of Asha's grandfather. But that was only one iteration but in the same paragraph it also stated Asha and Starboy are soulmates. Why would the writers say they were soulmates if they were not meant to be each other's love interests? Of course, I didn't get the chance to refute my point because I got blocked. I was also met with the argument "A person sees a man woman standing next to each other and think they automatically have to be in a relationship," I feel like I am always getting that argument when a black or black adjacent woman is involved in a ship. I have seen it from the Snowbarry stans when it comes to WestAllen, I have seen it from the TVD fans and Julie Plec and Caroline Dries themselves when it comes to Bonnie and her being shipped with anyone. Yet Eugene Fitzherbert/Flynn Ryder was the first male that Rapunzel ever saw, and people shipped them. Eric was the first human male Ariel saw and spent time, and they end up together. Keep in mind that Rapunzel did not have the chance to date others until she lived in Corona and even then she still didn't try dating other guys. Ariel probably had the chance to date other mermen and other humans but again that never got explored. Yet Asha is the one with the most male friends, such as Simon the friend based off of Sleepy, Safi the friend based of Sneezy, Dario the friend based of Dopey, and of course Gabo the friend based off of Grumpy. She had all of those guys as an option and yet not one of them were interested in her. They didn't even play around with that idea. Yet for some reason me shipping her with Starboy is somehow taking away her agency and shipping her with the first boy I see he with? That's an odd argument to make. I bring up the point of Black women and girls being love interests and damsels in distress due to the fact Black women are always fighting for a cause and others to the point of leaving nothing for themselves. White women have been stating they are tired of being damsels in distress and being reduced to a love interest. However, the exact opposite is true for black women. Now this isn't me saying Black women shouldn't have a character outside of being a damsel in distress or being a love interest, but I am saying they deserve the opportunity. To better help me elaborate the points I am making here is a link to @Princess Weekes videos on this subject. th-cam.com/video/UyksW9hJsss/w-d-xo.html Now things I would change about her looks are that I would have her color being an orangey red one not only because I think it would look great with Asha's skin tone, but it would be a nice call back to Sorcerer Apprentice. Also, orange as a main color for a princess (Even though Asha isn't a princess) would be a nice switch up from the blues, pinks, and purples. Then when she is defying Magnifico she could wear blue to show desires to be just as powerful and then her final color be purple because purple symbolizes hope in her African Culture and since red and blue make purple it would show Asha coming into her own. I love the color purple for as you can see my main color is purple. The problem with Asha in purple she blends a little too much into the background. I would put her in an orangey red color for the same reason that the animation team for Little Mermaid decided to give Ariel fire truck red hair, simply because it stood out amongst the many blues under the sea. My final problem I will touch on in this movie is the references for the sake of references. I made a whole twitter thread on how I would fix that problem and the references I would use instead. Feel free to agree or disagree but please don't be an asshole about it. x.com/LeeMazing1995/status/1849520848777920764
I give it 3/5, which is being kind because I get what they were trying to do, but it felt tired and repetitive, and Asha felt like a caricature of previous Princesses.
@@AOFadeev Well, first of all, I’m glad you enjoy it. Secondly, the reason it’s disappointing is that the marketing showed the film as being a kickass adventure about a princess that unleashes an ancient curse upon the land and has to go on a journey to fix her mistake. They didn’t even reveal the fact that the plot was her mother being changed into a bear (Which by the way, aren’t in Scotland) until a couple of weeks after the film had been released. So that’s what makes it disappointing. However, as for issues with the film on its own, the writing is clunky, the mother-daughter relationship doesn’t feel developed, the character development is rushed, a majority of the jokes aren’t funny and rely on Scottish stereotypes and caricatures, Merida isn’t nearly as badass as she was promoted to be, and there were just a lot of missed opportunities. It’s not a bad film by any means, in fact, I actually love the first third. Not to mention it has great animation, interesting designs, a fantastic score, and Fergus is a genuinely great character. But that’s just my opinion and again, I’m glad you enjoy it but I just find it to be disappointing and so did a lot of other people.
@@TheWickedMerman, honestly, apart from the Brave thing (haven't seen it in ages, tbh😅😅), i agree with everything you said about the movie, and im glad your wife had some input in agreeing with you (By Neptune, your mermaid designs are so amazing and beautiful!❤❤❤❤). For those wondering, yes, Starboy, Aster, Star or whatever you guys wanna call him, i call him Aster, was SUPPOSED to be Asha's boyfriend, with the 'Him being the ghost of Sabino' direction (which is one im glad did NOT end up happening btw) being only one phase before the ball of bouncy energy like Carly said. Im also really excited to see how your rewrites gonna go, with Carly maybe putting in her own ideas, maybe have Asha befriend a mermaid or already be friends with one like you guys!😍😍😍 Ive done 3 rewrites, but am currently working on a second draft for the first one i ever did, so im really happy that so many people are doing their own thing with it. This is also probably my introduction to this channel since I've just finished it, and i love how you're obsessed with Starboy/Aster cause i am too, and we're NEVER letting him fall and stay into an endless pit of despair of what could've been because we're bringing him back to life! Best of luck on future endeavors and videos, you two, and that your relationship stays as strong as ever😘😘😘😘!
@@TheWickedMerman very valid criticisms. I think I had also the benefit of watching it just last year, with 0 prior knowledge beside "princess, Scotland, at least one song is great". So I didn't have the disappointment factor. And i was also really switching critical thinking. I liked the witch character which was so over the top out of place that it was in itself funny.
I read the review of this film, SO I did not watch it. I celebrated by watching the 2007 film, Enchanted during the 100th anniversary. Asha is very 1 dimension character to say the least. 😔

I'm always down for seeing more, better rewrites 👍
Same here.

Hey! I liked brave! What's the problem with it?

I feel like The Great Wish Movie rewrite on AO3 by WhatIWish tried to fix some of these problems.
