Stay tuned as they put it all together to make a homemade butcher block countertop, complete with sink and faucet, and install it in their camper conversion van build! Thanks for watching!

    The section you cut out for the sink....how about sanding it down, sealing it and using it for a cutting board.

    Butcher block counter tops just need to be oiled oiled and oiled with a food friendly mixture of 50/50 tung oil and citrus oil. Once the wood becomes saturated, it is water repellant and antibacterial, and non-toxic.

      @gailasgreatdanesandmanes1042 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Do that with the cut out piece to make a cutting board! I bet it could be fashioned to fit as a sink topper. My vintage trailer has that. It's nice I can use the extra counter space while hiding/storing dishes in the sink!

    I love how you all always ask Azalea if she wants to help and get her involved! That’s such a great experience to see and it will help her! Also, the countertop turned out beautiful! You guys are so talented! Since Ellie mentioned not knowing what to do with the innards of the pallets, those pieces with the notches (rectangular cutouts) in them, that they worked with for the sink, can be used for building the kids a playground/ wooden climbing design in the yard. The notches in the wood look like they are a great size for smaller feet for the next few years and it will help with the kids development and give them something to climb and enjoy at home!

    You could size the sink cut out wood to fit snugly in the sink, drill a hole in it to help pulling it out, it will make a great plug to enable even more useable counter space when sink is not in use. It will double as a cutting board. The baby in the hoodie is a great idea to sell even more hoodies! Perfect model! Those babies are growing so fast!

    Great job. Looking job. I have a suggestion, sand down the part that you cut out from the sink to sand out the stain you tried, Re stain it the same as the finished countertop and finish it like the counter. You can use it to cover the sink area , that way you will have more countertop area. You can take it out when you need the sink and cover it when you do not. The small hole you made to start cutting out the sink can be used to get this cover for the sink in and out. You might need to make it a little larger.

    Great work on the countertop, it looks beautiful! A couple ideas for future projects: Boiled linseed oil makes a really great finish, and is foodsafe, You could make a nice cutting board using the same method or even using that sink cutout, you could even route a section out of the counter top to set it in so it doesn't move around in motion. Great to see people reusing reclaimed material, the older the better, keep an eye out for old barns or houses that are falling down, most of the time people are glad to see it go. Also, getting good with a hand plane and sanding block can save on power consumption, and makes for some really nice surfaces.

I like to run most of my pallet wood through my planer so I really have to remove all the nails if I want to use it. I really liked the final color and very happy you passed on the red. I am sure that some folks would like it but glad you made that choice. I love how Azalea applies stain, have mom hold me and swing my back and forth. I am sure you guys can’t wait to take it out for a break down camping, even if it is just a quick overnight. Thanks again for sharing and have a great day!

    a sink cover that will make the sink area flush with the countertop is very useful... it lets you put stuff on the counter without worrying about the uneven surface and can double as a cutting board. your cutout for the sink could probably be made into a perfect sized sink cover that would fit inside and make it flush with the top... maybe just with a bit of sanding. great job guys!

    I like how you took a bunch of scrap wood that looked worthless and turned it into a beautiful kitchen countertop. Awesome.

    Azalea is quite the helper ( great job staining the counter top). She is so cute in that hoodie, reminded me of Allia in the movie Dune.

    I'd recommend a hand block sander. The hand held power band sanders do not get everything flat. It works better to just do it by hand with a block sander. At least that is how it was for our white pine kitchen island. Wow does that look nice as you get ready to cut out the holes for the sink and faucet. Wonderful countertop! It looks vantastic! Thanks for showing this step.

    Looks great, one suggestion, round the front corners, actually any corners you build in your RV. It will save on bodily bumps n bruises. Y'all are very talented and brave to create such a beautiful interior like that. Love it😉

    Our neighbor across the street has a BIL with access to huge crates full of pallet 'innards' like you are using for your counter. They gave us two crates that we managed to reduce to one crate. The neighbors have enough right now to build a house (not really but they have A LOT!) And the neighbor next door has accepted a number of the crates too. It's all oak wood. We would probably take more but just don't have the space to store it. We have a wood stove and all three of us have fire pits.
