Just wanted to say thanks for the video series I know the work that goes into them. I had a blast making this mask and you have made eager to make more. Thanks again.
This has been an AMAZING video series. I'm looking forward to any other videos you post. I'm using this as my base for making the Batman Scarecrow that I'm building for a Comic Con.
I used stem wire from michaels, super cheap and already had from another project. I used it to sew my fabric into a bag and stitch on the mask. The nail was perfect to get thru the think parts!
You can usually find needles big enough to hold twine in the knitting section of any craft store that sells fabric/yarn. Should be somewhere near the yarn with all of the knitting needles, hoops, etc. Takes a little practice to thread since twine really likes to fray, but it might be easier than using the wire. The needle holds the twine in place with little to no effort and since it's so large, it's very easy to hold. They're pretty sturdy, but they're not super sharp, so you might still need the nail to poke holes. Very cool tutorial, btw.
Thanks for this!!! I just finished making a mask for a friend and your tutorial was easy to follow. I had to make a small adjustment for my large-headed friend and that was to loosen the neck on the opposite side bc it kept pulling down on that side. After that it fit perfectly and he is super stoked to wear it!
Thanks for the vids. I am almost done making my mask. I'm doing a scarecrow with a piece of rotting pumpkin on it.again great job with the videos they were very helpful.
I have looked at a lot of videos and your is the best way in making a Scarecrow mask. I too like F-X Make-up am a novice at it, the photo of me is Old Buffalo Hunter I aged my face to look very old. I will start getting my materials ready for my mask, thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
Thanks +Anthony Chavez !!! I appreciate the compliment. I like the yellowed photo look. I would love to see before and after pic of your face side by side if you get a chance.
Im doing this as we speak for this halloween i will most def send u my finished design thank you so much for your videos, very clear and very in depth i cant wait to show u!!!!
so i think i used a burlap that the stitching was too wide bc the caulking kind of bled through from the cloth to the outside of the burlap. would this be a problem when painting? and also how could we fix it? im trying to get it done before holloween this year. love love your videos. thanks for all the help!!
+Matthew Connett it is paintable caulking, so painting will not be an issue. You can wipe it off before it dries and even thin it out a little with water. Don't use too much water because it will slow down curing and make caulking a little weaker. I hope this helps.
+Rawfires thanks so much. I really liked the idea of the caulking to help it be more flexable. My gf is actually really good at special effects and got me on the idea. maybe you could check out her instagram; Keyanna Hann. Give her any new insperations or ideas. Thanks so much.
Can you accomplish the stitching if you want to leave the burlap on over a styrofoam head?. I want to build the mask on top of the head and use it for an outdoor prop
I'm thinking of doing this but with latex. I wouldn't be using a bag but have burlap/hessian and a foam wig head plus clear taped heads. I guess you never know unless you try!
+checkersjjify i weighed a mask I had. 2lbs even. The silicon caulk I would say makes up a little over half the weight of the mask. Each tube is 10 0z. and I typically use two tubes per mask. Cool Question! Thanks checkersjjify.
Some unraveling is good looks more authentic. The caulking and paint hold keep it from going to far, also the burlap coffee bags are a tight weave that hold pretty well even after being cut.
Joseph Christensen your request is noted. I am working on the scarecrow gloves video right now. Perhaps when that is done I will start on Arkham Knight Scarecrow.
Well maybe you can answer my two questions instead. What would you use for the air filters on his chin? And for the torn mouth would you cut the lower jaw half of the mask off then stitch it together?
+Joseph Christensen I am still contemplating this question and keeping my eye out for everyday materials and the simplest way to achieve this. I ran across some tuna cans that are about the right size for the canisters but that's the best I have right now. I'm not sure taking this design - cutting it and adding filters would give you right look. I will continue to plan this out and build one for everyone to see. Let me know if you come up with an idea you would like to share.
+Rawfires I'm thinking that it's possible to use a cut down Pringles can and two lids to get a lighter weight. Hot needles and holes done or I'd use something a little messier looking like a metal pan scrubber as the filter glued in. Why copy a look when you can own your own?
+Joseph Christensen As below. Think for yourself and just try it. You could use anything from a real gas mask to a cheese grater. Make it your own! Don't expect people to try just to save you having to put any thought process in. Rawfires has done a great job and I'm really impressed that they have taken that time and shared their knowledge with such a great end result.

+Dusty Rhoades I still haven't been there yet. I will get there one day...oh yes ...yes I will.

Kinda what I was thinking... No need to reinvent the wheel. A needle would probably work without having to poke a hole with the nail.

That sounds really awesome! "Large Headed Friend" lol. Tag me in a pic if you post it. I would love to see it.

Ray Martinez that’s awesome! Can’t wait to see it.
Great series, thanks.
Thanks Iweld Alexander!
Spooky Stuff but totally awesome.
For the threading/sewing look at a perma-lok needle. Good for threading large thread and rope.
Adam Kral thanks, I check it out

George Seward you can definitely sew it without removing it from a foam head, a curved needle might work better instead of a straight one.
Thanks again for the immediate response
George Seward no problem!

Hi +Goldenghost. Good luck, I hope you get the results you are looking for. Send me a pic some time.
Great videos
Excellent job 💀
Thanks 😅
TNGleep has a good idea. I think they are called Darning needles. Like the this amzn.to/1ZRc719 These should work much better than the wire.
does the caulking making the mask heavy?
+checkersjjify good question. I'm going to say not to bad. I will weight one of my masks and let you know my final weight.
+Rawfires awesome thanks :)

Leather crafting sewing stuff like from Tandy leather money got work well but it would just add another expense.
what are you useing to make mask rock hard
now how do you keep the burlap from unraveling to the point that it looks unprofessional?
Some unraveling is good looks more authentic. The caulking and paint hold keep it from going to far, also the burlap coffee bags are a tight weave that hold pretty well even after being cut.
perfect and thank you
Yeah Rawfires, the one with the torn mouth and gas mask filters
