- In this tutorial, I want to show you how I made a scary DIY scarecrow mask for our annual Halloween party using burlap, jute, and raffia for an extra creepy and unique look. You can do so many different expressions and put your own spin on a scarecrow. You don’t have to go the traditional route with a floppy straw hat.
This is a bit of a messy project but overall not too difficult. Just be careful with the pinning needles.
Also check out my matching blog post with more details and photos of how I wore it with a black robe and outfit for Halloween: cuckoo4design....

Supplies, materials, and tools needed to make this scary scarecrow mask:
🎃 burlap/hessian cloth (I bought two yards because I wanted to make two masks, one yard should be enough for one mask) amzn.to/3M4FX1n
🎃 jute yarn amzn.to/3QjQjNe
🎃 black mask, the masks are a bit more expensive at Party City where I got mine (if you can't find a black mask, just use the black duct tape all over the mask / a skull mask, theater mask, or scream mask would work great too) amzn.to/46tJrm4
🎃 black duct tape amzn.to/45zAI0y
🎃 X-Acto knife amzn.to/3FjuI19
🎃 aluminum foil
🎃 needles
🎃 matte Mod Podge glue amzn.to/45EcQIV
🎃 clear Gorilla glue or hot glue amzn.to/46uw1Gz
🎃 scissors
🎃 big-eye stitching needle amzn.to/46wTwPk
🎃 large curved upholstery needle amzn.to/401R1lt
🎃 black and brown craft paint (I've seen people using black tea to darken burlap but I prefer the craft paint because it gives me more control over the shading) amzn.to/3S3jlCg
🎃 raffia ribbon amzn.to/48XgBMq
🎃 hard bristle craft paintbrushes amzn.to/3tzdxGl
🎃 styrofoam head for wigs amzn.to/48Yoe5E
🎃 drill and drill bit

Fab;o) Original, impressive and so well explained, chapeau!
Good work, but not a fan of the background noise.
I liked the background noise
For real. It's annoying and I don't know what it's supposed to represent. but otherwise good video 👍👍
Next time, try using Your volume. Now the vid is silent😢.
I hear absolutely nothing. Very off putting.
I like it!
That came out sick my lawd !! You have some talent my friend
Thanks so much!
Welcome back to the 1920s . Silent video .. I'm surprised it's not in black and white. But out standing job. You are awesome .
I was forced to take the sound down by YT even with an extended music license :)
@@juliakonya7266 You Tube is out of control with it's rules.. Just so you know ? I was rocking out to Led Zeppelin as you made that Awesome mask . I truly appreciate your videos .Happy Halloween 🎃

Thank you for this amazing video, Happy Halloween
Thanks, same to you!
Amazing mask! gave me more ideas for my masked killer mask, for my first horror movie “delirium”
It follows the story of Hollow, a masked killer who haunts the secluded woods around an old cabin. Five years ago, Bethany, a troubled college student, vanished there during a family retreat. Now, newlyweds Ross and Megan arrive at the same cabin for their honeymoon, unaware of its dark history. As eerie events unfold, they soon find themselves caught in Hollow’s deadly grip, racing to uncover the truth behind Bethany’s disappearance before becoming his next victims.
Oh, that's so awesome! Good luck
Brilliant work
thanks!
👹Excellent. ❤ love it
Thanks!
Awesome mask!
thank you
Amazing, looks brutal 🤘🔥👏👏
Thanks :)
Will a mix of pva glue and 30% water work?
I'm sorry but I don't know. It would need to be tested.
Hey, great mask! Do you still remember how long (in hours) it probably took to make it? Hope its not too late for a last minute halloween mask
Hi there, with drying time it took about two days. I put them in the sun outside to dry faster. I'm not sure about the hours I worked on it.
That's what I guessed! Thank you so much, let's get to work!
@@Karulakin good luck
I really love the mask but how am I suppose to see through it
I removed some of the burlap threads around the eyes which made if possible for me to see through the mask. You can see that at timestamp 5:08 in the video.
Hello there, I have a question for you. This mask will fitting for adult head size or how it does work for head size? My head is big as 23 inches. Lol. Please, let me know. Thank you. Great work!
You can make it as big as you would like. And using the right size mask that fits your face under it will help too. Good luck!
Awesome work
thank you
Awesome!
thanks
Great music
That is awesome, will you sell one of those to me?
Hi, this is the tutorial that im looking for, can I change the mod podge glue with PVA glue?
Sorry, but I'm not sure. I personally wouldn't use a different glue. If you do try it, let me know how it worked out.
Great video! How do you fasten it at the back to your head?
Hi! The plastic mask I used has a rubber band attached to it, which worked great to keep the mask on my head.
terrify- ling terrific!
It’d be a lot better with you as the narrator instead of the music. I super enjoyed your video.
Amazing you should sell these
Thanks!
Love it
Hello! Sry I dont understand the mod podge part. You diluted it with water? I bought decoupage glue 50ml. But i think its too dense right?
Hi there, no I didn't dilute the Mod Podge and used it as it. Yes, it is a bit thick but for me, it worked just fine.
@@juliakonya7266 Thank you! And many thanks for your video. This week I will finish with my mask with your guide😊.
@@balintkatona8832 good luck
Cool
Thanks :)
No sound
yes youtube made me take it down
LIQUID STARCH..may be a better and, less messy answer.
th-cam.com/video/5b-M72WirWw/w-d-xo.html
I have used liquid starch in my one macrame project and it worked great for that but it is still to bendable and can easily fall apart. For me, this worked better because it is more sturdy.
That music or noise is annoying as hell
You can just use the mute button
They should sell tickets to see the masks from people that actually thought this was a DIY project.
This is absolutely a DIY project. Follow the instructions and get a great result! I didn't do the hair but added more burlap for a full hood look!
I did my mask following this instructions and it turned out great. This absolutely is DIY project.
The stupid music is so annoying
